He has to juggle with the multiplicity of pretentiousness where he loses his uniqueness. Everything changes when the attire is ripped, damaged, torn, ragged and finally converted to rugs. A man then starts feeling miserable to see the original him. At certain spaces he feels rejected and tries to get alienated, which results in his isolation that makes him believe that he is standing without identity. In the novel, Winter in the Blood, we meet a thirty- two year old narrator who is nameless and is disheartened facing the societal challenges, who is rejected, isolated and segregated and has no corner to breathe a colorful life with shimmering sound. He thus, chooses a deep dark nook to breathe Nihilism. The narrator is so much normal to the entire non normal situations that now he feels nothing for any situation or person. We can see his losses, his pain, and his struggle for survival when we catch all twenty-two situations where he can adjure neither his love nor his fear. A sense of helplessness and the fear of being stalked by the shadow of white-men traumatize him and drag him towards alienation and isolation. The present paper aims at analyzing the crisis of self identity in the novel, Winter in the Blood. \u0000

Women's writing in India has a shorter history than male writing, but we are seeing a rise in the number of women authors whose fiction is being recognized internationally. They have won a slew of national and international awards and grants, and it now appears that women's writing will rise to prominence shortly as they catch up to their male counterparts. While many other women authors, such as Kamla Markandaya, Nayantara Sehgal, Ruth Prawar Jhabvala, Anita Desai, Santha Rama Rao, Attia Hussain, Padmini Sen Gupta, Nargis Dala, Mrinalini Sarabhai, Gita Mehta, Arundhati Roy, Kiran Desai, enrich Indian English Literature, Deshpande occupies a special place She is one of the few authors working today who incorporates literary allusions, myth, and mythology into her work, effortlessly blending it with earlier results. \u0000Deshpande has used Indian myths, legends, and people in many novels as metaphors for events, incidents, happenings, and characters. In many of her books, she incorporates Western folktales. Shashi Deshpande's writings, especially her novel "The Dark Holds No Terrors" (1980), paint a startlingly vivid picture of Indian womanhood's inner world. For too long, it has been made to stay quiet. Deshpande's use of myth and folklore in her novels exemplifies the decolonization of the Indian literary imagination. These devices are handy to the author for illuminating the inner world of women's minds since many of her novels contain female protagonists.

Writers like Amitav Ghosh and Salman Rushdie have initiated a dialogue in this regard. In the post-truth era, the issue of climate change is being blatantly denied and doubt is being manufactured regarding this issue. The novelists need to address this issue urgently, so as to create awareness among the readers. The apathy towards climate crisis needs to be mitigated without delay. Stories can motivate people to take social responsibility and bring changes that are useful for a sustainable development. It is by means of storytelling that the people across the globe can be educated about climate crisis and the issue can be made more relatable. Fiction can be a catalyst for change. Literary imagination of the novelists needs to extend beyond everyday life to accommodate the issue of climate change. Role of culture and its relationship with climate crisis is duly comprehended in this study. \u0000This paper focuses on the importance of initiating a dialogue on climate crisis and the scarcity of this issue in contemporary literary fiction. Insightful observations and views of acclaimed writers and scholars have been duly incorporated to lend this scholarly endeavour a firm ground.

This Pulitzer Prize-winning author has written extensively about racial and gender problems. Her best-known work is The Color Purple (which won her the Pulitzer Prize for fiction). Alice Walker's personal experiences as a representative of African American women authors have influenced her distinct psychological perspective. In her work, she often employs the symbolism that is popular in dark literary works. Presently in domestic academia, there are only a small number of research on the novel's creative features and expression approaches that concentrate only on the novel's symbolic meanings of the colour picture. The book has an overall focus on the construction of language, the execution of voice, the evaluation of sexual orientation, and the redefining of identity of the narrative's female characters, particularly heroine Celie. The Bildungsroman thesis states that a character's environment, experiences, issues, and oppression all contribute to his or her psychological strength. A bildungsroman is a novel that aims to mould the reader's mind and soul via their experiences in the world. She draws inspiration from Alice Walker's The Color Purple.

Using the first-and-second-person narratives and shuttling of narrative between past and present, she proves herself a typical postmodernist even in her first collection of short stories titled Self-Help published in 1985. She does not brand herself a feminist, yet woman related issues are dealt by her in almost all the stories in this collection. While focusing her attention on women issues, she relates them to the world which is overflowed with various internal and external relationships. Man-woman relationship in love, marriage and in extra-marital relationship determines woman’s position in the family as well as the society. Hence with the strained relationships the women of Moore suffer from a kind of psychological imbalance and mental turmoil. The protagonist, Charlene of the short story titled “How to be an Other Woman” is obsessed with the thought, being a mistress to a married man and hence suffers from guilty consciousness.

Apart from economic conditions, the importance of women in under developing countries still suffers from blind gender disparity. Their voices are always suppressed in family as well as in society. The only solution to raise their importance is at the hand of law. The liberation of women in under developing countries is moving slow like a snail’s journey. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's Purple Hibiscus realistically portrays the suppressed voices of African women through the characters Beatrice Achike-the Mama, Aunty Ifeoma, and Kambili Achike. Dissent is never entertained and taken on the right spirit by any government in the world. And therefore, the emotions and the desires of African women are taken unaccounted. This perhaps is the effect of poor literacy, lack of awareness found in under developing territories of Africa. This theme of the unaccounted voice of women is to be discussed in this research paper.
