It challenges the existing patriarchal paradigms and holds that there is an inseparable connection between women and nature. This paper attempts to explore the intimate link between the oppression of women and the degradation of nature by closely analysing Anuradha Roy’s celebrated novel The Folded Earth. It presents before the readers an array of strong willed and independent female characters who share an intimate bond with their immediate environment. It succeeds in beautifully portraying a spectrum of women in Indian society belonging to different generations, with different education, values, beliefs as well as social and economic conditions.","PeriodicalId":292584,"journal":{"name":"SMART MOVES JOURNAL IJELLH","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126419776","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

His writings reflect the contemporary society and its vast panorama in which his global vision is absorbed deliberately with an acute analysis made by him through his incessant experiments towards life and society. With the help his spiritual memoir My Experiments with Truth Gandhi poured his philosophical views analyzing the social and cultural facets searching for Truth and inculcating the Self. Influenced greatly by the typical Indian tradition Gandhi assimilated himself with society and paved the path of morality including truth, non-violence, perseverance, positivity, love, respect and human values. To him culture is inseparable; it is an integral part of individual. Culture is the sole factor on which the foundation of individual character lies. His ardency for culture is quite evident in his practice of self-introspection. He considered the social and cultural codes as instruments by means which self can be attained and this self is manifestation of Truth and Ahimsa.    ","PeriodicalId":292584,"journal":{"name":"SMART MOVES JOURNAL IJELLH","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120941743","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Butler and Lauren were both raised in traditional Baptist homes, and they have both always been captivated by the psychological effects of religion. Butler had the opportunity to explore cultural and racial variety while growing up in the ethnically mixed Pasadena neighbourhood. Butler drew on her historical reading and background to create the fictitious worlds. What Butler predicted for the future is more important than ever today. She saw a world that was poised to come to an end. She encountered a Black woman prophet who understood that absolutely nothing is predetermined and that we have the power to shape events and change their trajectory. It encourages us to let go of the conventions that can push us towards a disastrous future and to embrace our greatest strength—the capacity for change. She offers a vision of a humanist future where metaphysical spirituality is possible without the need for a conventional, all-powerful Supreme deity. She created imaginary worlds like the one we live in, but she also gave each of us the inspiration to follow our own goals and face our apprehension about the unknown while being brave and creative. The Earth seed aphorism serves as a constant reminder that \"Everything you touch, You Change...\"","PeriodicalId":292584,"journal":{"name":"SMART MOVES JOURNAL IJELLH","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132165749","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By applying the psychoanalytic theory, the present study brings out the internal conflicts in the select characters. This article primarily focuses on a) witnessing both of the character’s behavioural responses, such as changes in attitudes, actions in life events, pursuit of love,  which has been taken for psychological investigation, b) analysing the morality over pleasure principle, which makes the characters significant in the readers' minds. The present study has hypothesized how the instinctual drive of 'Id' becomes the major cause of Senior’s suicide in an open court. It also investigated how the life and death drives of the Id function in Samson’s suicide are discussed. The character investigation   in the above backdrop will bring a different aspect to appreciate Kalki's masterpiece by attaining ‘Catharsis’ in readers' minds. The scope of this study is to understand the interchanging of the masks of each character, representative of the interactions of the different personality levels, that provides the reader with insight into who each character truly is. This psychological approach     will help the reader identify each individual's personality by their actions.","PeriodicalId":292584,"journal":{"name":"SMART MOVES JOURNAL IJELLH","volume":"133 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123447976","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It was published in September 2016. The author of the novel, Preethi Shenoy is an Indian author, Speaker and famous blogger. In this paper, I am analysing this novel from the perspective of feminism, especially how the author presented her female characters. Feminism originated as an offshoot of the women's suffrage movement. The major feminist theorist is Toril Moi, Simone de Beauvoir, Elaine Showalter etc. It is a movement against men’s ideologies and society’s certain representations. Their main concern was the representations of women in literature. Traditionally females are represented in literature as passive characters. Though the feminists broke all such representations, our literary works do not completely get rid of such representations. Many of the authors still present women as passive in their works. In this novel too there are such representations. Superficially it is a love story between two persons who are living in two different worlds. They have their tastes, opinions and attitudes. Even they have two life partners (living relationships). But ultimately fate joins them.","PeriodicalId":292584,"journal":{"name":"SMART MOVES JOURNAL IJELLH","volume":"200 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116352287","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In general, we can divide all the forces into two, pushing and pulling forces, that affect people’s migration. Political turmoil, a lack of employment opportunities or congestion could work as pushing factors. Pulling factors include better life style, job opportunities or having relatives who have already moved. Different ethenic groups encounter one another and the hosting land works as a melting pot in which process of cultural amalgamation happens to create a new form. Chutney Music is the resultant of this very process in which Bhojpuri and Indian folk music are amalgamated with Caribbean calypso and Soca music. This is a fusion of Dhantal and Dholak from Indian continent, Soca beats and Tasha drums from Caribbean island. In this paper we map out the journey of Chutney music from north India to Caribbean island and how it evolved.","PeriodicalId":292584,"journal":{"name":"SMART MOVES JOURNAL IJELLH","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132557434","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

She has covered a range of themes, including the search for identity and heritage, immigration, mother-daughter dynamics, domestic abuse, palace intrigues, the impact of 9/11, mother-love, and the bonds between sisters. Through a nuanced exploration of the dynamics between strangers,she brings to the fore possibilities of love, cooperation, and emotionally sustaining interactions. The special connections have a soothing effect and, at times, a subversive edge. They can challenge hetero-normative conventions: two Indian immigrants discover the happiness promised by lesbian love. They can disregard the law: a young Indian woman develops an instant and irrepressible attachment for a lost child, whom she takes in without the knowledge of the authorities. They can counteract the forces of hate: a yoga practitioner stabilises an artist disturbed by 9/11 and its aftermath. The connections chosen for this analysis have a distinct maternal component, i.e., they involve holding, protection, nurturance, and what Sara Ruddick calls “attentive love”. Through an application of Ruddick’s concept of “maternal thinking”, I will examine and explicate the rationality of care that informs the interactions between strangers in Divakaruni’s fiction. After a broad engagement with Divakaruni’s oeuvre, this paper will take a deep dive into the short story “A Perfect Life” (1995) and the novel Queen of Dreams(2004). By forging unique connections between her characters, Divakaruni broadens the scope of what is possible. She also reveals the different ways in which the maternal can manifest itself.","PeriodicalId":292584,"journal":{"name":"SMART MOVES JOURNAL IJELLH","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128203883","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

She has unravelled the layers of pain through the story of three friends- Mallika, Sonali and Razia in Getting away with Murder. In this play, Dina Mehta has raised her voice on various issues of violence against women like rape, child sexual abuse, female foeticide, gender inequality and blind adherence to superstitions. A woman, whether house wife or a working woman, educated or uneducated has to go through the same plight of turmoil (physical, mental, emotional etc.) In this paper, by involving theories on violence, I have tried to analyse the truth which Dina Mehta has revealed through her play Getting Away with Murder. The play ends on a positive note of survival which became possible due to the close bond of trust and cooperation between three friends.","PeriodicalId":292584,"journal":{"name":"SMART MOVES JOURNAL IJELLH","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122939392","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are a number of literary works which provide enough space to mother characters that can be categorised as maternal fiction. After analysing the portrayal of mothers and their narrative it seems that the sole purpose of women is reproduction. This is how they can have a fulfilling life. In this paper we analyse the portrayal of women in the Indian context and how Geetanjali Shree silently questions this institutionalised and idealised picture of mother in her novel “Mai: Silent Mother.” She depicts how societal apparatus works to imprison women.","PeriodicalId":292584,"journal":{"name":"SMART MOVES JOURNAL IJELLH","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124652219","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In an autobiography, the autobiographical narrator engages in the reconfiguration and reconstruction of his own personal history which is inextricably connected to the social, political, economic and many other discursive contexts. Nelson Mandela’s autobiography Long Walk to Freedom records the tension between the personal and the political in the context of Mandela’s life and shows how it resulted in the formation of a larger personal identity. Although Mandela’s autobiography revolves around the personal, the subjects that it incorporates are much broader and complex than a personal narrative. It is at the same time the story of his personal life and the story of how his country gained independence as seen and experienced by him. Mandela’s autobiography not only represents his personal life but it is also representative of an era. In writing his autobiography, he also writes the major political events that effected millions of lives. The autobiography documents Mandela’s life, the struggle against apartheid in South Africa and the struggle across Africa to shake off the control of colonial powers. This paper will address the interlacing of details pertaining to the individual as well as the political activist with a support base across Africa.","PeriodicalId":292584,"journal":{"name":"SMART MOVES JOURNAL IJELLH","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115189467","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
