Unlike the previous studies, we employ both individual indicator and comprehensive indicator measures of firm performance for Chinese manufacturing firms. Our results show that the empirical relation between firm's R&D and performance varies with the phase: prior R&D investments have a positive effect on current performance, and current R&D investment has a negative effect on current performance. We also find that relation between R&D and performance is shown to be much stronger when the performance is measured by comprehensive performance than when the performance is measured by ROE and EPS.","PeriodicalId":292290,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Management of Innovation & Technology (ICMIT)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114514641","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Traditionally, institutional environment is thought to constrain managerial choices and thus to reduce organizational uncertainty. However, this concurrent mission instead creates institutional ambiguity in the choice of organizational form as a result of competing perceived isomorphic pressures. Through cases of Cherished Dream China Education Foundation and Grameen Bank, this paper derives propositions as to how the social entrepreneur's internal motivation and perceived institutions with respect to sources of funding, stakeholder alignment, and government policy shape the organizational form of social entrepreneurial enterprises.","PeriodicalId":292290,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Management of Innovation & Technology (ICMIT)","volume":"113 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117251385","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some organisations depend totally on computerised information systems to carry out their operations as well as to process, maintain, and report essential information. However, the reliability of computerised data has become a major concern to risk management. Due to the degree of reliance on information systems, risk management has become an increasingly essential part of most organisations' daily operations. If potential risks are not managed, it could have a major impact on the organisation's strategic objectives and could manifest in the derailment of the entire organisation's processes and activities. This study used case study research method to investigate and understand how IS risks are managed in the organisation and how Risk Management Systems (RMS) are deployed. Structuration Theory (ST) was employed for the analysis of the data collected.","PeriodicalId":292290,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Management of Innovation & Technology (ICMIT)","volume":"411 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116276146","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, results from survey and research show that the number of e-banking users is still low in Indonesia. Because of this reason, this research was done to find out prospect perception about kinds of relational benefits in e-banking. The findings of this research, that was analyzed using descriptive statistics method, showed that e-banking prospects have good perception about confidence benefits and special treatment benefits in e-banking. However, they had neutral opinion about social benefits in e-banking transaction. The literature often refers to internal resistance against externally developed knowledge as the Not Invented Here Syndrome. In line with the Social Identity Theory we argue that external knowledge might increase a comparison of the in-group's expertise with that of the out-group and as such threaten the identity of the group and its members. In addition we argue that the source of external knowledge matters. Knowledge acquired from similar organizations is more likely to lead to internal resistance than knowledge from dissimilar organizations. We argue that competitors are most similar to the focal organization and that therefore the NIH syndrome occurs when knowledge is acquired from competitors but not if this knowledge is acquired from suppliers, customers or universities.","PeriodicalId":292290,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Management of Innovation & Technology (ICMIT)","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124726076","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

How to determine the competitive landscape in a technological roadmap is an important research issue for scientific and technological managers. Patent pools solve the tragedy of the anti-commons problem by internalizing the pool members. However, there are no empirical evidence to compare the characteristics of the pool data and non pool data. We find that the patent statistics reveal the significant difference in the research and development strategy. Although the firms still hold a lot of patents outside the pool, patents in the pool have more forward/backward citations, patent scopes and patent family than the non pool data that contribute to both managerial and theoretical knowledge.","PeriodicalId":292290,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Management of Innovation & Technology (ICMIT)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124778802","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the most challenging of such features is the project's complexity. The objective of this study is to contribute to the knowledge on the concept of project complexity, relations between project complexity and use of specific project management processes and techniques. A questionnaire was submitted to 313 project managers. The data analysis indicated that the complexity of projects managed by the participants is generated by the criticality of the goals and can influence the frequency of use of processes and techniques related to the project planning and people management.","PeriodicalId":292290,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Management of Innovation & Technology (ICMIT)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129711092","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, the SMEs need to raise their competitive advantage. Usually, they consider “quality” as the competitive weapon, but because of the limited resources and lack of talent, they perform very few quality practices only, and result in a very limited effectiveness. In order to assist SMEs to raise their competition based on the improvement of quality, we develop a systematic framework of quality management with five stages for SMEs. Based on this developed model, we conduct an empirical study to investigate the status of the implementation levels and the effectiveness degrees of the practices in the five stages for the SMEs. We also analyze the implementation performance of the practices based on the I-E matrix.","PeriodicalId":292290,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Management of Innovation & Technology (ICMIT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129623959","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previous studies using TRIZ evolution trends have determined patents with high evolutionary potential as high value technology in the future without considering relative importance of each TRIZ trend in a specific technology domain. Thus, previous approaches have limitations in that the importance of TRIZ evolution trends can be different according to the technology domain and current stage of the technology cycle of the technology domain. To overcome such limitations, we propose a method which can consider the priority of importance of TRIZ evolution trends and the technology cycle. To this end, we adopted an SAO-based text mining approach and semantic similarity measurement method.","PeriodicalId":292290,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE International Conference on Management of Innovation & Technology (ICMIT)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128290742","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
