We utilize a \"mobile QoS adaptation\" strategy aiming to deal with the inconsistencies arising from mobility events in a wireless mobile environment. The performance of the specific adaptation strategy is evaluated through simulations under different traffic environments in a wireless network based on 3GPP's UMTS structure. As a result, we show that the performance of a network can be improved when adaptive applications are used by both mobile and fixed hosts","PeriodicalId":292242,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Conference on Software in Telecommunications and Computer Networks","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130434781","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Direct routing in combination with failover techniques, also described in this paper, is probably the best choice for introduction of a redundant SIP proxy servers. Our approach is based on a standard IPVS (IP virtual server) modules distributed within GNU/Linux kernel. IPVS is additionally extended with our SIP scheduler, which is necessary for SIP traffic distribution across server farm. Failover solution is based on VRRP (virtual router redundancy protocol), and it is not in depth analyzed in this paper. Proof of quality of direct routing concept is presented through series of measurement results. Measurements are conducted on a test network and by the principals of the Sip Stone proposal. The measurement result show that system capacity is proportional to the number and capacity of each server added to the SIP proxy farm","PeriodicalId":292242,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Conference on Software in Telecommunications and Computer Networks","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-09-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115121968","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this paper is to investigate the adoption of HD in H.264/AVC video codecs for videoconference applications, where real time constraints, like short time delay, must agree with low complexity and computational costs. In order to satisfy these requirements, the H.264 baseline profile is applied, with suited modifications to the mode decision process to reduce complexity and coding time. On the other hand, extensive multi-domain simulation and virtual prototyping based design can be a beneficial from quality of design perspective. Thus detailed prototyping for a system under design is often a question of design economics. In this paper, we create a cost modeling framework (MUDCOM) which may help choose a prototyping based design approach based on the characteristics of the system. The proposed cost modeling framework is an estimator for cost of different life-stages of a product. Before embarking on a complex endeavor of multi-domain virtual prototype development, impact of such a model on the overall life-cycle cost can be evaluated using MUDCOM. MUDCOM integrates a series of existing cost modeling ideas and extends it for telecommunications network and services. Compared to existing IEEE 802.11 management concepts, where a central node computes and disseminates defined management information, decentralized operation of researched system improves reliability by eliminating central points of failure. Self-management feature of researched concept should be achieved without any kind of external influence, so access points have to be autonomous. Such management system must continuously seek for opportunities to improve its own performance and productivity. Moreover, it must be able to adapt changes detected by its members.
