Acoustic emission signals have been acquired from OLTC of 230 kV 3 phase power transformers for signature analysis. The acoustic emission signals have been analyzed to characterize the signals with reference to energy and frequency using Discrete Wavelet Transform. Case studies of AE signals obtained from healthy OLTCs have been presented in the paper for probable consideration as reference signals for healthy and normally operating OLTCs.","PeriodicalId":290479,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 1st International Conference on Condition Assessment Techniques in Electrical Systems (CATCON)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125367839","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To reduce the frequency deviation and to maintain generation-load balance, power system needs an intelligent, flexible and optimized control. Classic controllers are unable to provide svelteperformance over a wide range of operations. To overcome this challenge, this paper presents a new online intelligent approach by using a combination of fuzzy logic controller with different optimization techniques for optimal tuning of proportional-integral (PI) based frequency controllers in the ac MG systems. This paper also presents a detailed comparative study between the static and dynamic load change and its performance is compared with CSO (Cuckoo Search Optimization) and PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization) based fuzzy PI controller, fuzzy PI controller and the Ziegler-Nichols PI control design methods. The systems are modeled and simulated in a user friendly MATLAB/Simulink environment.","PeriodicalId":290479,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 1st International Conference on Condition Assessment Techniques in Electrical Systems (CATCON)","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127085607","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

PMUs are newly emerged tools for monitoring the grid parameters and thus help system operator in quickly identifying the stressed areas and take remedial actions. This has been proved as suitable sensory device for immensely improving the situational awareness among system operators. In India, Synchrophasor technology is in its initial stages with lots of pilot/demo projects undergoing. Still at nascent stage of implementation also, this has shown immense potential benefits and is being used by the system operators for reliable operation of grid. The paper provides Indian utility experience of PMUs usage in evolving power systems. Also, the paradigm shift from the conventional SCADA system to Wide area measurement system in India has been adequately addressed.","PeriodicalId":290479,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 1st International Conference on Condition Assessment Techniques in Electrical Systems (CATCON)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122126904","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The 12-leads can be seen as the components of heart vector which originates from the center of the heart. These components spread over the frontal and transverse plane and have information about various parts of the heart. Increasing the number of these components will increase the spatial resolution thereby enhancing the information contained in the heart vector. In this work, a projection based approach is proposed for producing super-resolution ECG. This method is evaluated by taking the Pearson correlation coefficient between the standard leads and the derived leads. Results show that some of the derived leads may be used as new leads to generate a super-resolution ECG which contain diagnostic information.","PeriodicalId":290479,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 1st International Conference on Condition Assessment Techniques in Electrical Systems (CATCON)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131290933","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The insulators of transmission line passing through the coastal area are subjected to marine pollution which contains Sodium chloride (NaCl). In presence of fog or rain, this pollution known as contaminant may lead to flashover of insulator. In this paper an approach to predict the flashover is reported. Experimental set-up was prepared to energise 11 kV composite insulators under AC supply, to create artificial humidity and to measure leakage current under different conditions. Harmonics components of leakage current are analysed by using Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). It was found that when severe arc occurred on the surface of insulator, low frequency components are going to increase especially 3rd and 5th harmonics. The final analysis revealed that the development of flashover due to contamination could be predicted from the analysis of the ratio of 3rd to 5th harmonics of Leakage current signal.","PeriodicalId":290479,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 1st International Conference on Condition Assessment Techniques in Electrical Systems (CATCON)","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131432942","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A low-cost system to measure the void fraction of a fluid using electrical resistance tomography (E.R.T) has been designed and implemented in this paper. Electrical resistance tomography is mainly used for determining the conductivity distribution within conducting fluids. Using this system, condition monitoring of fluids can also be done in real time. A new technique of simulating the experimental setup has been demonstrated using ANSYS 13.0 ICEM CFD and ANSYS 13.0 FLUENT. Major point of discussion in this paper includes principle of operation of Hybrid Active Power Filter (HAPF) with an efficient control algorithm for generation of the reference current. Generated reference currents are passed through the fixed band hysteresis current controller to produce switching signals for the Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBTs) of the Hybrid Active Power Filter. Hybrid Active Power Filter is the combination of Passive Power Filter (PPF) and Active Power Filter (APF) responsible for producing opposite phase signals for compensation of the harmonics. The considered system is developed in Matlab/Simulink environment using Power system block set and the control algorithm is developed using Xilinx System Generator block set which automatically generates HDL code and can be downloaded to FPGA (Field programmable gate array) kit which is capable of producing faster switching signals for the IGBTs resulting a very good acceptable Total Harmonic Distortion (THD).","PeriodicalId":290479,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 1st International Conference on Condition Assessment Techniques in Electrical Systems (CATCON)","volume":"103 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114382279","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
