For better life cycle of PMSG it is very much needed to understand the abnormal behavior for earlier protection. Using Winding Function Approach, the abnormal behavior of shorted stator phase current, fault current and change of values of machine parameters has been described in detail and based on this method simulation result will be provided by using dynamic equations. For better understanding, comparison between healthy and faulty PMSG will be done and the analytical approach and simulated results will be verified with practical experiment.","PeriodicalId":290479,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 1st International Conference on Condition Assessment Techniques in Electrical Systems (CATCON)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134562539","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since conventional loading of induction motors is often expensive, the estimation of temperature rise by tools of mathematical modeling becomes increasingly important. Excepting for providing a more accurate representation of the problem, the proposed model can also reduce computing costs. The paper develops a two-dimensional transient thermal model in rectangular co-ordinates using finite element formulation and triangular shaped elements. A temperature-time method is employed to evaluate the distribution of loss in various parts of the machine. Using these loss distributions as an input for finite element analysis, more accurate temperature distributions can be obtained. The model is applied to the rotor of one squirrel cage TEFC machine of 7.5 kW during star-delta starting. The temperature distribution has been determined considering convection from the outer air gap surface.","PeriodicalId":290479,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 1st International Conference on Condition Assessment Techniques in Electrical Systems (CATCON)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121350299","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a classifier model is designed to classify the beat from ECG signal of the MIT-BIB ECG database. The classifier model consists of three important stages (i) feature extraction (ii) selection of qualitative features; and (iii) determination of heartbeat classes. In the first stage, features are extracted using S-transform where as second stage uses the genetic algorithm to optimize the extracted features which represent the major information of the ECG signal. The final stage classifies the ECG arrhythmia. In this study, we have classified six types of arrhythmia such as normal (N), premature ventricular contraction (PVC), atrial premature contraction (APC), right bundle branch block (RBBB), ventricular fusion (VF) and fusion (f). The experimental results indicate that our method gives better result than earlier reported techniques.","PeriodicalId":290479,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 1st International Conference on Condition Assessment Techniques in Electrical Systems (CATCON)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129582535","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most of the cables placed in the earth. The life expectancy of cable depends on various factors such as internal composition of fillers used with PVC and external factors temperature, moisture content of soil and chemical wastes. In this work, a different composition of SiO2 nano filler added PVC insulation for electrical cables have been prepared. The dielectric properties like dielectric strength, partial discharge level and volume resistivity are measured with refer to respective standards has been experimentally determined to find the suitable composition of nanofiller for the loss free application. Similarly mechanical characteristic (tensile strength) is also measured for all the samples. The results have been analyzed and compared for PVC with 0 wt%, 2.5 wt%, and 5wt% SiO2 nano filler. By the additions of nanofillers enhance the mechanical and electrical properties of PVC. From the results, it is found that only for 5wt % nano filler additives the PVC gained the better properties.","PeriodicalId":290479,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 1st International Conference on Condition Assessment Techniques in Electrical Systems (CATCON)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126908468","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our aim is to develop a generic clothing technology which successfully integrates biosensors woven into a shirt. We have therefore developed an ambulatory device which enables the measurement of heart rate, electro dermal activity, and skin temperature with non-invasive sensors. Since we are combining parameters such as body temperature and galvanic skin resistance, we get to know about the patient's integral condition. One of the key features of our system is fall detection, which mainly arises from the complication of heart attack during which body's vitals-sign changes and patient tends to collapse. This system gives warning to prevent such complications. Our research is mainly orientated towards two complementary directions: Improving the relevancy of each sensor and increasing the number of sensors for having a more synthetic and robust information.","PeriodicalId":290479,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 1st International Conference on Condition Assessment Techniques in Electrical Systems (CATCON)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124030403","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In normal physiological condition, an RBC is circular in front view and biconcave in side view. Also it is 7.5 μm in diameter and 2 μm in thickness in terms of size. The normal morphology of an RBC undergoes some specific changes due to the consequence of different pathological abnormalities. One of such disease is Haemolytic Anaemia due to Enzymopathy (like G-6-P-D deficiency) where the RBCs take uneven edged `Bitten Apple' like shape. Here in this paper, correct identification of change in normal parameters of red blood cells in an anaemic blood sample has been presented using different image processing tools and techniques. Here the blood smear image is preprocessed by using Weiner filter and Sobel Edge detection method is applied to find the boundary of the corpuscles. Also the region selection is done by which a metric is formulated to determine abnormal shape of the corpuscles. The purpose of this paper is to highlight this medico-technical aspect only.","PeriodicalId":290479,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 1st International Conference on Condition Assessment Techniques in Electrical Systems (CATCON)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128919041","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to this, an unbalanced magnetic pull (UMP) will be setup between stator and rotor. This can cause bearing damage, rubbing of rotor with stator and may develop unwanted vibration and noise, which may results in premature failure of the motor. In this context, this paper presents the mathematical analysis of unbalanced magnetic pull due to air gap eccentricity in induction motor. Experimental investigations have been carried out to detect mixed airgap eccentricity fault by vibration signature analysis using Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) accelerometer under different operating conditions. The spectral analysis of motor vibration has been carried out using radix-2 decimation in time Fast Fourier Transform algorithm (DIT-FFT). The presence of side band harmonic frequencies around fundamental component in the motor vibration signal spectrum indicates mixed eccentricity fault. The experimental results demonstrate that it is possible to identify the mixed airgap eccentricity fault by vibration signature analysis using MEMS accelerometer. A simple method has been proposed to find the fault severity in the motor under variable load conditions due to mixed air gap eccentricity.","PeriodicalId":290479,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 1st International Conference on Condition Assessment Techniques in Electrical Systems (CATCON)","volume":"118 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115555832","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
