The purpose of this study is to explain the form of local colours represented by Umar Kayam in his fiction works. This study, the sociological approach is used as a social reflection of the community. There are two novels by Umar Kayam which become the subject of this study, namely Para Priyayi (1992) and Jalan Menikung (1999). Data is collected by reading repeatedly and intensively to find data in the form of phrases or sentences and discourses that reveal the discussion of local Javanese colours. The collected data is then analyzed with qualitative descriptive analysis using the sociological literature theory framework. The results showed that the work of Umar Kayam's fiction contained many Javanese local colours in the form of Javanese art, especially puppets, Javanese songs, tayuban or Javanese dance. Other local Javanese colour elements are social status as priyayi, the use of Javanese language and the attitude of the Javanese life that always promote harmony. The local colour of Java in the fiction of Umar Kayam's works mostly functions as story material and setting so that the fiction works become more interesting. Short movie become alternative creative learning media among other media. Thus, the purposes of this research are (1) to describe aspects of short movie transformation into written short story, and (2) to describe the procedure of short movie into short story. Creative learning media in this paper is a short movie which presented through the transformation or changing of form from audio visual form into short story. This study used descriptive qualitative method which describes design and stages of transformation from movie into text. The stages are (1) the students select a good movie; (2) students observe the story in the movie; (3) the students write an outline based on the story in form of sentences; and (4) the students develop the outline into a whole story. Since the GLS operation, a parameter which measures character reinforcement through searching of GLS quality performed by teachers at school is needed. In this case, the author employs the Critical Discourse Analysis (AWK) parameter. This qualitative research employs the case study method and Indonesian Language Teachers subject of the Vocational High Schools in Bandung as its source of data. The AWK reviews the quality of character value application in GLS implementation in social relation, learning reaction, learning system, learning interaction, and discourse characteristics aspects. The concerned GLS activity includes achieved implementation of stages application level by teachers in Lesson Plan (including habituation, development, and learning stages). The character values studied include existence or non-existence of character values: religiosity, nationalism, independence, mutual cooperation, and integrity. The research results show that all Lesson Plan materials are based on literacy, because of learning orientation to text understanding. All Lesson Plans have shown GLS at the development stage. Formally, in all Lesson Plans studied, GLS is not described in detail within the 15minutes of the beginning of learning, but all learning core activities are literacy activity.
