Conventional methods estimate the accurate physical parameters when a robot wants to grasp an unknown object. Therefore, we propose a perceptual system based on an invariant concept in ecological psychology, which perceives the information relevant to the action of the robot. Firstly, we proposed the plane detection based approach for perceiving an unknown object. In this paper, we propose the sensation of grasping which is expressed by using inertia tensor, and applied with fuzzy inference using the relation between principle moment of inertia. The sensation of grasping encourages the decision for the grasping action directly without inferring from physical value such as size, posture and shape. As experimental results, we show that the sensation of grasping expresses the relative position and posture between the robot and the object, and the embodiment of the robot arm by one parameter. And, we verify the validity of the action decision from the sensation of grasping. Direct Perception and Action Decision for Unknown Object Grasping","PeriodicalId":289669,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. In this article is presented a methodology for complex dynamical systems modeling which is an extension of the supervised learning paradigm. The theoretical aspects of our methodology are introduced and then two different and heterogeneous case studies are presented.","PeriodicalId":289669,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Artif. This success has spurred the development of increasingly sophisticated models that encompass more complex phenomena. In such context, it is widely acknowledged that computational modeling plays a fundamental part. In this paper the authors analyze critically the role that computational models, as simulators and as psychological models by proxy, have played in this enterprise.","PeriodicalId":289669,"journal":{"name":"Int. Using an observer that employs the integral of the sign of the error term, asymptotic estimation of the respective nonlinear vector field is achieved. Patchy Neural Networks (PNNs) are introduced to identify the unknown nonlinearity from the observer's output and the state measurements. The proposed scheme achieves learning with a single pass from the respective patches and does not need standard persistency of excitation conditions. Furthermore, the PNN weights are updated algebraically, reducing the computational load of learning significantly. Simulation results for a Duffing oscillator and a fuzzy cognitive network illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.","PeriodicalId":289669,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Artif. On the other hand, the properties of disturbance signals cannot be described simply, such as non-periodic function, nonlinear time-varying function nor almost-periodic function. In case of a robot control, sampling rate for control will be affected description of disturbance signals such as frequency or amplitude. If the sampling rate for acquiring a disturbance signal is not correct, the action will be taken far from its actual property. In general, future prediction using machine learning is based on the tendency obtained through past training or learning. In this case, an optimal action will be determined uniquely based on a property of disturbance. However, in this type of situation, the learning time increases in proportional to the amount of training data, either, the tendency may not be found using prediction, in the worst case. In this paper, we focus on prediction for almost-periodic disturbance. In particular, we consider the situation where almost-periodic disturbance signals occur. From this perspective, we propose a method that identifies the frequency of an almost-periodic function based on the frequency of the disturbance using Fourier transform, nearest-neighbor one-step-ahead forecasts and Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem.","PeriodicalId":289669,"journal":{"name":"Int. It is considered in this research work that Web page ranking depends on the information stored in that Web page. It is also presumed that energy consumption in a Web page is related with the stored information. Hence, Web page ranking is closely related with the stored information in the Web page. Connection between Web page ranking and energy consumption is constructed within this paper introducing two theorems based on the Web activities. Web page Energy is directly proportional to the Information Storage within the Web page. Ranking of a Web page for a given period of time is directly proportional to the Information Storage within the Web page.","PeriodicalId":289669,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Artif. An emerging concern is whether the electorate in such divided societies would be pulled by polarized news media outlets and become polarized as well. This study, employing a series of agent-based simulations that takes into account polarized news media, communication networks, and individual differences all together, explores the effect of a polarized news environment on increases in extremist opinions and in the proportion of individuals with divided communication networks. It also identifies circumstances under which individuals perceive division within their communication networks. The findings suggest that the effect of a polarized news media environment on polarizing the electorate may be overestimated, while the homogenizing effect of communication networks may be underestimated.","PeriodicalId":289669,"journal":{"name":"Int.
