For this purpose, simulation model is built for patients at the current ED activities and determine the costs for each room in ED. The total costs JD, number of served patients, and profits JD are 263562, 10256, and 146677, respectively. Improvement is suggested by studying three three-level controllable factors using simulation. It is noted that focusing on the lowest total costs, B-1 adding two beds with one added nurse and B-2 introducing four beds with two added nurses provide the two smallest total costs JD of 252568 and 253320, respectively. Whereas, for the largest number of served patients is achieved by A-1 assigning one sharing doctor for Abdominal and C-1 adding another room for abdominal with new doctor of equal number of served patients of 10466. In order to combine these two performance measures, the profit associated with each scenario is considered. It is found that factor A-1 provides the largest profit = 150,390 JD. The results of this research may provide decision makers valuable cost information that helps them in improving ED performance.","PeriodicalId":289669,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Artif. The widely used box-counting method has three main issues: 1 ambiguities in setting up a proper box cover of the object of interest; 2 problems of limited data points for box sizes; 3 difficulty in determining the scaling range. These issues lead to unreliable estimates of fractal dimensions for urban forms, and thus cast doubt on further analysis. This paper presents a detailed discussion of these issues in the case of Beijing City. The authors propose corresponding improved techniques with modified measurement design to address these issues: 1 rectangular grids and boxes setting up a proper box cover of the object; 2 pseudo-geometric sequence of box sizes providing adequate data points to study the properties of the dimension profile; 3 generalized sliding window method helping to determine the scaling range. The authors' method is tested on a fractal image the Vicsek prefractal with known fractal dimension and then applied to real city data. The results show that a reliable estimate of box dimension for urban form can be obtained using their method.","PeriodicalId":289669,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Artif. Rough set theory for reasoning about data in information systems is used to construct the topology. Using the concept of an indiscernibility relation in rough set theory, it is shown that the topology constructed is a quasi-discrete topology. Furthermore, the dependency of attributes is applied for defining finer topology and further characterizing the roughness property of a set. Meanwhile, the notions of base and sub-base of the topology are applied to find attributes reduction and degree of rough membership, respectively.","PeriodicalId":289669,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. It also investigates and demonstrates how consciousness level of an agent and its common sense reasoning abilities can improve the performance and intelligence using SMCA Society of Mind Cognitive Architecture as a case study. Consciousness is a sense of awareness about oneself and the surroundings in which the animal or human being lives. This gives a connection between a non materialistic mind and a materialistic brain. Common sense in common world is one that is immediately perceived by everyone from a given environment. A six tiered layers SMCA control model is designed that relies on a society of agents operating using metrics associated with the principles of artificial economics in animal cognition. SMCA is a society or collection of agents, where agents tasks implemented on testbed, demonstrates simple to complex level of consciousness and commonsense.","PeriodicalId":289669,"journal":{"name":"Int. Information retrieval IR is an essential and useful strategy for Web users; thus, different strategies and techniques are designed for such purpose. Currently, the focus on the usefulness of Artificial Intelligence AI has been improved with IR. One AI area is Evolutionary Computation EC, which is based on designs of natural selection. A traditional and important strategy in EC is Genetic Algorithm GA; this paper adopts the GA technique to enhance the retrieval of HTML documents. This improvement is obtained by creating a modern evaluation function and applying a hybrid crossover operator. The proposed evaluation function is based on term proximity, keyword probability within the document, and HTML tag weight query. Experimental results are compared with two well known evaluation function functions applied in IR domain which are Okapi-BM25 and Bayesian interface network model. The results demonstrate a good level of enhancement to the recall and precision. In addition, the documents retrieved by the proposed system were more accurate and relevant to the queries than that retrieved by other models.","PeriodicalId":289669,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Orbital and V-variable orbital pictures initially developed by Barnsley (2006) have utmost importance in computer graphics, image compression, biological modeling and other areas of fractal geometry. These pictures have been generated for linear and contractive transformations using function and superior iterative procedures. In this paper, the authors introduce the role of superior iterative procedure to find the orbital picture under an IFS consisting of non-contractive or non-expansive transformations. A mild comparison of the computed figures indicates the usefulness of study in computational mathematics and fractal image processing. A modified algorithm along with program code is given to compute a 2-variable superior orbital picture.","PeriodicalId":289669,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Artif. In many real world applications large amounts of data are available but the cost of correctly labeling it prohibits its use. In such cases, active learning can be employed. In this paper the authors propose rough set based clustering using active learning approach. The authors extend the basic notion of Hamming distance to propose a dissimilarity measure which helps in finding the approximations of clusters in the given data set. The underlying theoretical background for this decision is rough set theory. The authors have investigated our algorithm on the benchmark data sets from UCI machine learning repository which have shown promising results.","PeriodicalId":289669,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. It is necessary to evaluate quality of health care services from patient perspective. This research investigates the factors, including hospital performance, hospital stay, hospital facilities, interaction with patients, service quality, and patient security culture, that affect significantly patient satisfaction and revisit intention in Jordanian hospitals using structural equation modeling. Data were collected from five main hospitals. The results showed that hospital performance has no significant effect on patient satisfaction and revisit intention. This result indicates that the patients are facing troubles in admission, registration, waiting time, and response time for results of medical tests. Also, the hospital stay, hospital facilities, service quality, and patient security culture are found significantly important in achieving patient satisfaction and revisit intention. Further, the interaction with patients' requirements and needs significantly related to service quality and hospital stay. These results shall provide policy and planning manager a great assistance in determining the factors that improve hospital performance, maintain quality medical services, and plan future improvements in the design and development of medical health care services in Jordan.","PeriodicalId":289669,"journal":{"name":"Int.
