The proposed partial feedback linearizing backstepping excitation controller is designed to enhance the transient stability under major disturbances. The seventh-order dynamical model of the synchronous generator in a simple power system in the form of a single machine infinite bus is considered to design the proposed controller. Here, the partial feedback linearization scheme is employed to linearize the seventh-order model into a third-order partial feedback linearized system that does not rely on operating conditions. At the same time, the dynamic properties those are not transformed during the feedback linearization process are analyzed in order to make sure that these do not affect the overall stability. Finally, the backstepping scheme is applied to determine the excitation control input by guaranteeing the convergence of the transformed states for partial feedback linearized system. Simulation studies with three line-to-ground faults at different locations, are conducted to analyze the transient stability and results are compared with an excitation controller that uses only the partial feedback linearization method.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123328245","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed controller is designed for the seventh-order model of synchronous generators using a linear quadratic regulator (LQR) approach while considering parametric uncertainties within the model. The proposed robust optimal state feedback excitation controller is designed by bounding parametric uncertainties so that it can provide desired damping to ensure the transient stability under different operational constraints. The optimal control parameters are determined by solving linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) and convex optimization problems. The quadratic stability of an uncertain system representing parametric uncertainties in the synchronous generator model is analyzed using the Lyapunov stability analysis framework. Simulations studies are conducted to support the theoretical finding of the proposed controller and results are compared with a conventional power system stabilizer.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129349424","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This upgradation in the substation may put extra financial burden on the grid operators. It also requires extended outages of the substations, which would reduce the reliability of the power system. To solve this problem a saturated amorphous alloy core-based fault current limiter (SAACFCL) can be applied. In this paper, parameters for the SAACFCL have been designed using a tuning process and characterized using advanced electromagnetic and electrical modelling. Also, the magnetic behavior of the core of the SAACFCL is analyzed using finite element analysis (FEA). Based on the characteristics obtained from the FEA, an improved electromagnetic circuit model of the SAACFCL has been developed. The mathematical model of the core’s B-H loop has been included with the magnetic circuit model. The Ansys-Maxwell software is used to analyze the performances of the SAACFCL in the saturation and unsaturation states, such as the variation of the core saturation level with varying ac and dc current, the voltage drop across the ac and the dc coils, and the capability of the proposed SAACFCL to reduce the fault current. The simulation results validate the performance and characteristics of the SAACFCL during the varying conditions of its important operating parameters.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130330195","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is to satisfy the supply demand requirements within the microgrid with the hosting grid at the point of common coupling (PCC). A complete control model is presented for an inverter based microgrid. The results show that the distributed control can achieve the set frequency and voltage points within the whole microgrid. The paper further introduces a secured networked distributed microgrid by utilizing the DNP3 protocol as a case study for the distributed control system. The DNP3 implementation as middleware communication protocol is detailed here. The test system utilizes an embedded computer as the distributed control layer for the grid and a Python-based dynamical model is developed to emulate the actual power system dynamics.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129972533","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This system has the capacities to transfer into distribution static compensation (DSTATCOM) mode under loss of PV generation to provide the harmonics compensation and required power by the emergency local loads. Therefore, a WL-RC-QLMS based current control method is developed and the function of this control technique is to attenuate the higher-order and sub-order harmonic components from the distorted load currents, even when the load currents are linear or nonlinear and balanced or unbalanced. To improve the transient performance, a PV power feed-forward term is included in the implemented control. The proposed WL-RC-QLMS controller is modeled and the control is developed in Simulink environment as well as its performance is validated on a developed laboratory prototype. The grid current condition measured in terms of total harmonics distortion, during validation are found under the restrained of IEEE-519 standard in different working condition, which exhibits the efficacy of the implemented control.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127895525","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, in reality there is often limited historical data, for example a new house or substation is built. To tackle this issue, a combining forecasting method of deep Residual Neural Network (ResNet)-based transfer learning for residential loads is proposed in this paper. To improve the accuracy and reliability of transfer learning, a novel deep ResNet with dual skip connections (ResNet-DSC) is proposed as the base-model. Then with sparse training data, a Bayesian Probability Weighted Averaging (BPWA) approach is proposed, to address the model combination parameters estimation problem. In addition, Probability Density Function (PDF) forecasting is also delivered by the aforementioned method. For demonstration, series of experiments, with actual residential load data, was performed. With the comparison with other transfer learning and non-transfer learning approaches, the effectiveness and improvement of the proposed method has been validated.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128828597","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As two inversely coupled magnetic coils are placed between the input and output sides of the proposed transformerless minimum phase hybrid solar inverter (TLMPHSI), there is no right half plane zero (RHPZ) in control-to-DC output voltage transfer function and it behaves as a minimum phase system. Further, a unipolar based sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) technique is implemented for the switching operation of the proposed TLMPHSI to minimize the high frequency common mode voltage across the PV to ground parasitic capacitor. Also, it regulates both DC and AC load at the same instant. So, the harmful common mode leakage current is reduced in the system. In addition, as the shoot-through issue is resolved, so the reliability of the proposed TLMPHSI is improved. A 280 W experimental set-up of the proposed TLMPHSI is developed to verify its performance.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125573129","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each MHG group has different MHG sets connected to an AC bus through the feeders of a distribution system through power-electronics converters consisting of several three-phase AC-to-DC converters, a regulated DC bus, and a large three-phase DC-to-AC inverter. A large harmonic-current source is also connected to the same AC bus to examine the effect of the external harmonic-current source on the summation of the 3rd-order harmonic currents. The mean value and the variance of Gaussian marginal probability density functions (pdf) and their covariance of the injected 3rd-order harmonic currents due to the switching of the power-semiconductor devices inside the power-electronics converters of the MHG sets are calculated and justified by Monte Carlo simulation.
