Recently the application of LD in illumination arises in projectors and vehicular headlights. The wider light modulation bandwidth is an interesting feature of the LD, which represents an advantage over LEDs, specially for Visible Light Communication (VLC). Therefore, this study presents an analysis of the LD application for simultaneous lighting and communication purposes. For this goal, the LD electrical and optical behavior is briefly reviewed and a mathematical static model of a commercial LD is used to perform a simulation-based analysis. It is presented a design space that considers dimming, communication signal variance and lighting efficacy range when using an LD for VLC. With regard to dimming range, it does not significantly differ using an LED or an LD. However, the LD has a clear advantage when light is modulated because it can provide stronger signal for communication while keeping high lighting efficacy. LEDs are subject to a trade-off between signal amplitude and lighting efficacy in VLC and it was shown that using LDs this effect os less pronounced.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131753064","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The MGs can be operated in autonomous and grid-connected modes. In grid- connected MGs, micro sources are connected locally to feed the microgrid loads and storage systems and through a static transfer switch (STS), the MG is connected to the main electrical grid. In autonomous mode, MGs are prone to instability problems, because they do not have grid support and power unbalances can destabilize the system. The problem arises when more than one generator is connected to the MG and shares its power supporting the locally connected loads. If the difference between the generation and consumption power is not properly controlled, it can cause a collapse in the system. Particularly, this is more critical in MGs with low inertia such as 100% VSI-based microgrids. To overcome these instability issues in VSI-based MGs, this paper proposes a detailed system design, modeling, and analysis of the paralleled three-phase VSI connected to the variable load and the grid using a modified virtual inertia PID droop-control with a virtual impedance. This achieves a fast response to frequency and voltage deviations and ensures accurate power-sharing among the paralleled VSIs. The system is modeled in MATLAB/Simulink® with the proposed methodology and experimental results in hardware in the loop (HIL) testbench with low inertia MG validate the proposed schemes.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132439651","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This strategy gives a capability to the SH to manage its domestic energy production and consumption autonomously. The SH is fed by a wind turbine, a local market, and a battery. It is also allowed to sell/buy to/from a local market to reduce its cost or increase its profit. The SH supplies different types of load including controllable load, shiftable and non-shiftable loads. The electricity market prices and wind turbine generations are subject to uncertainty. Hence, the hybrid IGDT-RO framework is deployed to reach the worst-case realization of the electricity prices and wind turbine generations in the robust self-scheduling of the smart home. The results demonstrate that the optimal robust solutions are obtained with the proposed hybrid model and it makes sure the operator about the profitability of energy management.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134580343","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, due to a tight interconnection between its input and output, simultaneous control of load side and grid-side quantities remains a challenge. In model-based control it is important to have accurate models describing the MC input and output. It has been found that conventional discrete-time modelling does not provide a satisfactory result. This problem is overcome in this paper by proposing an advanced hybrid modelling principle that correctly treats both zero-order-hold and continuous input. Performance improvement resulting from using hybrid models is confirmed by simulation. Ideas presented in this paper can be applied to a range of applications, including voltage source converters with RL loads, current source converters with RLC filters, and matrix converters with the combination of the above.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134477174","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These topologies are used as the Power Control (PC) stage of a two-stage LED driver to supply an 180W LED load. The proposed GaN-based topology uses GaN transistors monolithic solution, which integrates two eGaN transistors in half-bridge configuration and their gate drivers, as well as other additional protections and functionalities, inside the same case. The GaN-based Synchronous Buck converter is experimentally evaluated, at three different switching frequencies, and compared in terms of efficiency and thermal behavior with the Si-based topologies. The efficiency curves, from 20% to 100% of the nominal load and at different switching frequencies, are also presented. Finally, the proposed GaN-based converter is compared with other works in the literature that are focused on a GaN-based LED driver PC stage, especially those with similar power ratings.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132407838","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The structure of the proposed MBCMI is designed with reduced number of components and due to that, it becomes significantly cost efficient, compact in size, and lighter in weight. The balanced DC sources required for this topology are prepared using high frequency magnetic link to ensure modularity as well as reliability. Moreover, the total standing voltage (TSV) of the proposed MBCMI is minimized to a very satisfactory level as it does not contain any end side H-bridge unit for the generation of negative voltage levels. A multi-carrier based level shifted pulse width modulation (LSPWM) scheme is used to generate gate driving signals, which mitigates harmonic components from the output load current. In this work, the operating principle of the proposed MBMLI is explained with the help of a fifteen level (15L) single phase unit. The performance of the proposed MBCMI is evaluated on a MATLAB/Simulink platform under different loading conditions. In order to show the superiority of the proposed inverter, a comparison result with some existing topologies is also presented in this paper. Comparative results prove that the proposed MBCMI topology requires fewer numbers of components.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132007953","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But the problem of product inconsistency is serious in mass production of high-speed permanent magnet synchronous motors (HPMSM), and the performance often deviates from plan. In order to reduce the influence of these tolerances and achieve the purpose of fine modeling and accurate calculation, this paper study on the influence of assembly relationship between permanent magnets (PMs) and rotor core on physical field. Taking 50 kW-30,000 rpm HPMSM as an example, the effect of assembly error on distribution of air gap magnetic density and torque ripple are studied, and the influence of controller on HPMSM under error conditions is analyzed. At same time, in order to calculate thermal resistance caused by the error, this paper deduces the numerical calculation method of PMs’ equivalent thermal conductivity, which will simplify the refined calculation process of temperature field. So do the influence on shafting modals caused by errors. According to the above research, corresponding conclusions are obtained, which can provide a theoretical basis for ensuring the consistency of mass production and reliable operation of high-speed and high-power motors.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133708315","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, several contributions concerning these currents were made, such as in the areas of modeling and simulation techniques, selection of appropriate mitigation method, developments of new mitigation devices and damage monitoring within the bearings, among others. In this context, much information related to bearing currents cause-and-effect chains is available. However, many contributions that have been developed in recent years for describing the mechanisms behind the bearing currents occurrence can only be found in a fragmented way. Thus, great efforts must be employed to provide a clear comprehension of each bearing current type and all the corresponding issues. To overcome this problem, this paper provides a broad overview of the physical principles related to the inverter induced bearing current, by means of a detailed and didactic approach. A huge volume of information was compiled, describing the expected currents maximum amplitudes, their probability of occurrence and the motor size which they are more expected to occur, among other relevant issues.","PeriodicalId":289566,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting (IAS)","volume":"166 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121140137","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The EHD gas pump is evaluated for a wide range of operating voltages starting from 20 kV up to 28 kV and wide range of Reynolds numbers (Re). The Reynolds numbers considered in this study varies in a range between 100 and 2000. At Re = 100, a maximum increase of 42% in the average Nusselt number is achieved with an applied voltage of 28 kV. The overall effectiveness of the EHD gas pump in heat transfer enhancement is evaluated by the thermal hydraulic performance parameter, (Nu/Nu0)/(f/f0), which is always greater than unity. Further, to maintain the system economical, the monitoring station of these remote microgrids should be located at a common place feasible for engineers. The monitoring of these microgrids is essential to analyze the power flow of the system. This in turn can be used for fault detection and localization which gives an idea to the visiting engineer about the malfunctioning devices. However, the data transmitted over the communication channel should be minimum so that a lowbandwidth communication can be utilized. This paper presents an adaptive model based scheme which only uses the load node information for monitoring the power flow of the network. The adaptive system used MRAS technique for estimating the equivalent Thevenin’s impedance of the load.
