According to its cause is divided into the following three class: Alzheimer's disease dementia, vascular dementia, mixed dementia [1]. The incidence of dementia increases with age. International estimated that there will be 11500000 people suffering from Alzheimer's disease/dementia in 2050 and a large part from developing regions or countries, such as Africa, India, Latin America, China, south Asia and the western Pacific region, Ferri et al. [2,3]. Dementia, a devastating as well costly disorder, is the leading causes of disability and mortality in old people. Dementia has a serious threat to the health of the elderly, which makes a serious burden on the state, society and family. Thus, it is an urgent need for effective interventions of treating dementia. Aspirin is a commonly drug which is used to treat headache and fever in daily life. In current, there is a few trials about the role of aspirin in Alzheimer’s disease. The role of aspirin in Alzheimer’s disease is still unclear. Therefore, I had searched some evidence about the role of aspirin in Alzheimer’s disease in order to provide doctors or patients with some useful information.

If stools culture from such a patient yields Campylobacter jejuni or Campylobacter coli (C. jejuni/coli), clinicians ask about its susceptibility to ceftriaxone, to which it is not routinely tested. We report a case of colitis that raised this question. As we couldn’t find the answer in the published literature, we investigated the sensitivity of strains of C. jejuni/coli to ceftriaxone in our hospital. \u0000Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of all strains of C. jejuni and C. coli isolated from specimens of infected patients seen in our tertiary care university-affiliated hospital in Switzerland between March 2009 and December 2010. Campylobacter strains were identified to the species level with matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization - time of flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry and antimicrobial susceptibilities were determined by Etest. \u0000Results: Among 108EC. jejuni and 14EC. coli isolates, only 1.6% were fully susceptible to ceftriaxone. Overall, 95.9% of our strains were susceptible to erythromycin but 52.5% of C. jejuni/coli were resistant to ciprofloxacin. \u0000Conclusion: Our results suggest that ceftriaxone should be considered ineffective for the treatment of Campylobacter jejuni/coli infections, the major cause of gastro-enteritis in Europe. In the light of increasing resistance to fluoroquinolones, cases of severe Campylobacter colitis or bacteraemia may require a short course of macrolides.

In this study, we analysed the relation between FoF with the 7-item version Fall Efficacy Scale-International (short FES-I) and biomechanical measurements of balance. \u0000Methods: 25 geriatric patients with increased short FES-I Score (18.5 CI 14.0-24.1; Cut-off ≥ 10/28 points) carried out fourteen different stance and gait tasks to objective the complex postural capability (Sway StarTM System Specific Body Control Index (BCI) compared trunk sway (°, °/s) and time to go with an age and sex matched control group. The present study is conducted to estimate the prevalence of anemia in elderly population and to identify the potential predictive factors associated with the etiology and disease progression. \u0000Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted to include all geriatric patients (≥60 years) with anemia admitted at the geriatrics facilities (Rumailah hospital, skilled nursing facility and home healthcare services) in the state of Qatar between January 2013 and December 2013. Data include demographics, principle diagnosis, laboratory findings hemoglobin, hematocrit value, mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), reticulocyte count, iron profile, serum folate, serum Creatinine other co-morbidities, medication, and assessment. Charlson’s comorbidity index, activity of daily living (ADL) and Bergs Balance Scoring level was compared with severity of anemia. Analysis was also performed for gender based on different age groups. \u0000Results: Prevalence of anemia was analysed according to severity. A total of 522 elderly patients were found to be anemic with mean age of 78.2 ± 8.6 years; of which 66.7% were females. The majority of patients were Qatari nationals (79.7%). \u0000The mean index hemoglobin level was 11.04 ± 1.6 and lowest hemoglobin level was 9.7 g/dl ± 1.6 g/dl. The severity of anemia was classified as mild deficiency (17.4%), \u0000moderate (60.3%) and severe anemia (21.8%). The severity in the hemogram values among patients showed significant difference for hematocrit (p=0.001), serum Iron (p=0.001) and serum Ferritin (p=0.001). Co-morbidities such as chronic kidney disease (p=0.001), and Gastrointestinal bleeding (p=0.03) were also were higher in severe group. There was significant negative correlation between hemoglobin level and creatinine level (p=0.001) among elderly patients. Patients with severe anemia were more likely to receive clopidogril (p=0.01), H2 blocker (p=0.04) and calcium (p=0.01). Severe anemia was observed more in patients with advanced age (≥ 80 years) while, elderly <80 years suffered frequently with mild-to-moderate anemia. The common type of anemia was diagnosed as normocytic normochromic anemia (73.6%) than microcytic anemia (26.8%). \u0000Conclusion: The present study identified a high prevalence of anemia among geriatric population in Qatar, with a higher frequency of comorbidities such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension and chronic kidney disease. An appropriate clinical approach is essential to treat anemia in elderly that can improve the quality of life and minimize the needs and costs of long-term healthcare facilities.

Out of three clinical centres in the Netherlands and one in Hungary, 27 patients with arterial leg ulcers, venous leg ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, and pressure ulcers participated. They consumed a specific ready to drink arginine-enriched oral nutritional supplement daily, in addition to their regular diet and standard wound care, for a maximum of 12 weeks. Main outcome measures were wound healing progress, patients’ compliance and rating of the specific nutritional supplement. \u0000Results: Seventeen females and twelve males with a mean age of 73.7 years were included. Within 2 to 12 weeks, complete healing occurred in eight ulcers, thirteen ulcers showed clear signs of healing through decreased wound surface area ranging from 25% to 88% reduction, and three ulcers kept unchanged. Overall, the daily oral nutritional supplements, on average two servings per day (= 400 ml), were almost fully consumed (99.5%), and the patients’ rating of the oral nutritional supplement was good. \u0000Conclusion: Extra nutritional support with a specific ready to drink arginine-enriched oral nutritional supplement seems to be beneficial for the healing of different types of chronic wounds.
