We aimed to evaluate the predictive role of Nutritional Risk Index (NRI) in prevalence of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) in Chinese middle-aged and elderly male patients. \u0000Methods: Levels of serum albumin, prealbumin and hemoglobin were determined at hospital admission in 197 enrolled patients. The body mass index (BMI) was calculated as weight in kilograms divided by height (meters²). The NRI formula as follows: NRI= (1.519 × serum albumin, g/dL) + (41.7 × present weight (kg)/ideal body weight (kg)). \u0000Results: There were high levels of albumin and NRI in CAD cases as compared to controls. The percentages of malnutrition in all patients, CAD patients and control cases were 37.56%, 33.96% and 52.63%, respectively. The patients with malnutrition had lower prevalence of coronary artery disease as compared to the patients with better nutrition (69.64% vs. 86.14%). NRI value was closely related to prevalence of CAD, and was an independent risk factor for CAD. The area under the curve of NRI was 0.65, and the Youden index of NRI was 0.33. The sensitivity and specificity of NRI for predicting prevalence of CAD were 89.18% and 43.56%, respectively. The optimal diagnosis criterion of NRI for CAD was higher than 45.29. \u0000Conclusion: Malnutrition as assessed by NRI is associated with prevalence of CAD, and is a more reliable and independent indicator of prevalence of CAD in Chinese middle-aged and elderly male patients.

It passes from generation to generation historically. Gender biased and patriarchal society is being happy with male off springs [2]. There are several reasons attached to this. Parental socio-economic and educational background has little impact on this matter. Of course, in urban area, this son preference is slowly in changing mode [3]. Parents enjoy more benefit from son than their daughter. Son is their assets while daughter is considered as liabilities so that their investment for their son’s care and development is very much purposive. They opine that son would renew their race and they would take care at their later life [4]. For daughter, they have to pay a handsome dowry and daughter is only a guest in later life. Rephrase, son would bring handsome wealth as dowry and it is gain for future prospect and secure life [5]. A study was conducted to know the status of elderly care at their later life by their sons. For this purpose, a sample of 100 elderly couples above 65 years of age was selected through adopting simple stratified random sampling. Among these 100 couples, 50% population was from urban area (Kolkata, a metro city of Eastern India) and they were financially sound and well off. While rest of the population was from adjacent rural area of the city of Kolkata and they were also financially well off. In this study, race/religion, education and other demographic part were ignored

Non-cirrhotic condition was defined in our study as the presence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) or non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). The rising onset of obesity, metabolic syndrome (MS) and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is associated with NAFLD or NASH. Currently only cirrhotic patients are required to be regularly (semi-annually) screened for liver neoplasma. The goal of this study was to describe the onset of HCC in patients admitted to an Internal Ward due to nonspecific symptoms of neoplasma and to identify a specific group of patients that could benefit from screening of hepatocellular carcinoma so that the disease is diagnosed in its early stages with promising prospects for successful treatment.

The ability to communicate is fundamental in medical specialist’s work. For the development of individual, effective plan for medical care and education, the nurse can rely entirely on her communication skills. Caring for geriatric patients also require professional competence and specific communication skills. \u0000Purpose: To investigate and analyze the level of communication between the nurse and the patient, as well as his relatives, during the hospitalization. Respondents through an anonymous survey of 392 patients aged over 65 received treatment in surgery, internal and emergency department of the Hospital “St. Panteleimon”, Hospital “Plovdiv”-Plovdiv, University Hospital “Caspela”-Plovdiv, University Hospital “Trimontsium”-Plovdiv, University Hospital “Eurohospital”-Plovdiv, University Hospital “Pulmed”-Plovdiv. \u0000Results and conclusion: Analysis of the results shows that nurses are able to communicate with patients and no problems during the communication occurred. Disturbing is the fact that not a small percentage of the health professionals do not communicate with the relatives of patients. The respondents placed first as the main reason for disturbances in the relationship between them and the medical staff-the specific age of the patients (51.8%).

This analysis was conducted to better understand the burden of recurrent fall-related hospitalizations in New York City \u0000Methods: Administrative data from the Statewide Planning and Research Cooperative System were used to describe patient-level characteristics for New York City residents 65 years and older who were admitted to and discharged from New York City hospitals for a fall-related injury between 2004 and 2011. \u0000Results: Of the 107,923 older adult residents hospitalized for a fall during the eight-year period, 16,574 (15%) were hospitalized at least one additional time for a fall-related injury during the same time period with a mean number of days between fall-related hospitalizations of about a year and a half (556 days). Females accounted for 72% of older adults hospitalized for more than one fall-related injury compared to 68% of older adults hospitalized for one fall-related injury. Adults aged 80-84 years and 85 years or older at the first fall accounted for 24% and 39%, respectively, of older adults hospitalized for more than one fall-related injury compared with 21% and 36%, respectively, of older adults hospitalized for one fall-related injury. \u0000Conclusion: The burden of fall-related injuries is high among females and adults 80 years or older in New York City, underscoring the need for providers to evaluate their patient’s individual risk, particularly to reduce the risk of recurrent falls. The authors postulate that it would be reasonable to search for clinical symptoms indicative for the impairment of function of glymphatic system in older people. They believe that it is possible to propose some candidatures of such symptoms on the basis of analysis of the content of interviews with elderly people suffering from ineffective sleep. They postulate also to review the known psychometric tests designed for sleep quality assessment. As results of these considerations they propose some possible indicative symptoms, however they emphasize that these propositions should be verified by neuroscientist, which can apply the contrastenhanced MRI.
