Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate diet quality and related factors among eldercare workers in long-term care facilities. \u0000Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study on 466 employees in seven long-term care facilities. All participants completed a brief food frequency questionnaire. Diet quality was assessed using three indexes: the American heart association healthy diet score (AHA-HDS), the world health organization healthy diet index (WHOHDI), and the Mediterranean diet score (MDS). \u0000Results: Eldercare workers had significantly lower AHA-HDS and MDS than general workers. Although no differences were seen between the two groups in WHO-HDI scores, a significant positive association was found between all three indexes and combined healthy lifestyle scores (sum of four items: no overweight/obesity, no smoking, adequate alcohol intake, and regular exercise). \u0000Conclusions: This is the first study to report that AHA-HDS and MDS are low in eldercare workers compared with general workers. Assessing dietary quality and improving adherence to healthier dietary patterns in eldercare workers could therefore be expected to aid health promotion.

In the field of geriatrics conversation with the patient has other additional targets. We try to assess the cognitive performance of patients and determine the risk factors which lead to the impaired mental capacity and to estimate so-called resilience, which has impact on the positive course of aging. One of the factors contributing to the favorable course of aging is so called "balanced perception of own life". Therefore, the authors decided to formulate rules to support patients in obtaining a "balanced, memorized assessment of own live." For this purpose, they discuss first several types of data sets related to the course of personal life and then formulate the general guidelines how to assist the patient to reorganize memories, so that remembered autobiography could have a positive connotation. The authors argue that the guidance provided to patients in this respect are, in fact use of some type of cognitive behavioral therapy. Since the use of these methods is very time consuming they propose their own supplementary method acting by recommendation of so-called "therapeutic tasks".

One of the challenges that elders experience is difficulty in securing sources of providing and receiving care. Lesbian, gay, or bisexual (LGB) elders in particular encounter unique barriers in finding support and receiving care because they may experience an interplay of sexual orientation and aging barriers. Most LGB research has been focused on the young LGB population and paid less attention to LGB elders.

Methods: We performed single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) with 99mTc ethylcysteinate dimer in 5 patients with Wernicke encephalopathy, and 15 age- and sex-matched control subjects. SPECT data were analyzed by statistical parametric mapping 8 (SPM8). Results: SPM8 revealed relative hypoperfusion in the bilateral anterior cingulate gyri and the left inferior frontal gyrus compared to controls. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that Wernicke encephalopathy affects brain function mainly in the frontal lobe, similar to Korsakoff syndrome.

The rats of OME group were sensitized to OVA via intraperitoneal injection once a week for two weeks and then challenged transtympanic. The rats of IL-12 group and control group were sensitized and challenged in the same way, but before challenge they were injected IL-12 and PBS transtympanic respectively. The histomorphologic changes of middle ear mucosa were observed with histochemical technique. The level of IL-4 and IL-5 was measured by immunohistochemistry. \u0000Results: Tympanal mucosa in OME group and control group rats thickened significantly. Meanwhile, inflammatory cells infiltrated obviously. Such histological findings were abated to absent in IL-12 group. The level of IL-4 and IL-5 in OME group and control group was higher significantly than in IL-12 group. \u0000Conclusion: The local application of IL-12 is effective in attenuating allergic inflammation of middle ear.
