The analysis of the semantic-conceptual structure of phraseological units (idioms and proverbs with figurative meaning) with constituents from the sea semantic sphere revealed that the motivation of the subgroup’s idiomatic meaning is based on some kind of «cultural» or «secondary» experience (and not physical-perceptive) of space, implying a considerable influence of «folk theories», which in principle are subjective. In this case the SEA, at the conceptual level, represents a space that, in relation to the subject, is «exterior», alien, unnatural, inadequate, where the subject «does not exist». We propose to identify the most relevant metaphorical structures for such conceptualisation, as well as the specific mappings that motivate meanings of units in our corpus.","PeriodicalId":288631,"journal":{"name":"e-Letras com Vida: Revista de Estudos Globais — Humanidades, Ciências e Artes","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132240844","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The work of António Patrício is on the boundary between the presence of God and the confrontation with God, which is the other possible side of seduction. In D. João e a máscara, this confrontation with divinity is revealed in the close relation that exists between death and eroticism. Aspiring to eternity is a way of craving for the divine. Paradoxically, if the desire to be like God is the desire to attain the absolute, on the human scale one can only secure this through death: «Nothing can we call our own but death».","PeriodicalId":288631,"journal":{"name":"e-Letras com Vida: Revista de Estudos Globais — Humanidades, Ciências e Artes","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125481630","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the basis of the analyses in Summa Theologica I, q.2 and Summa contra gentiles I (I-XV), there is an attempt to understand the meaning and relevance of this thesis, its implications and its philosophical and theological significance. Thomas Aquinas’ analyses underline the importance of distinguishing between a knowledge about the existence of God and one regarding his essence, while highlighting in each case a set of difficulties and lack of knowledge factors. In a context where the idea of confusion plays a central role, Thomas Aquinas tries to show that: a) no matter how confused knowledge about God is and no matter how large the disproportion between the human and divine perspectives, there is an ineradicable notitia Dei, and b) this notice is linked at the same time to the inability to know God’s essenceand the ability to demonstrate His existenceby means of certain effects and traces of His. This all leads to the peculiar demonstration of the existence of a Deus absconditus. It is precisely the discovery of this God who manifests himself and at the same time hides himself that makes it possible to document the pos-sibility of demonstrating that God exists and that constitutes the foundations on which every and any demonstration of the existence of God rests.","PeriodicalId":288631,"journal":{"name":"e-Letras com Vida: Revista de Estudos Globais — Humanidades, Ciências e Artes","volume":"56 15","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131471388","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The first is Mário de Sá-Carneiro (1890-1916), Portuguese writer and poet, and the second is Richard Weiner (1884-1937), Czech writer, poet and dramatist. The two authors lived in the same period of modernism, in Paris, being influenced by the same artistic and literary sources. In fact, there are some identical, typical modernist proceedings and issues in the work of the two authors (especially, the subjectivism and the identity/alterity problem). In this essay, the common double theme is analysed in the short-stories «Eu-próprio o Outro» (1915) by Sá-Carneiro and «Dvojníci (1916) by Weiner.","PeriodicalId":288631,"journal":{"name":"e-Letras com Vida: Revista de Estudos Globais — Humanidades, Ciências e Artes","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131768389","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
