Hanoi brings the complexity of these human transits, the implications originated from the deterritorialization and coexistence with other cultures, experiences that cause strangeness in the world’s apprehension. In this novel, the Vietnam refugees in the USA need to adapt to a new culture and language, both very different from their own.","PeriodicalId":288631,"journal":{"name":"e-Letras com Vida: Revista de Estudos Globais — Humanidades, Ciências e Artes","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116837697","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the evidence found in this eighteenth-century prose fiction work, it is proposed that it consists of a «pretended history», according to the conception of this genre of history that is outlined in the dialogue I of Court in the Village (1619), by Francisco Rodrigues Lobo. Having no intention of defining this genre (or species), this article presents considerations that aim to contribute to a critical reading of the Pilgrim of America appropriate to the Portuguese and Luso-Brazilian literate practices of the early 18th century.","PeriodicalId":288631,"journal":{"name":"e-Letras com Vida: Revista de Estudos Globais — Humanidades, Ciências e Artes","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122504820","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article aims to briefly present the 72 poems contained in those academic publications, and two occasional speeches given as he presided over academic sessions. It also includes some separate poems found in handwritten form or in books authored by others. In this article, I seek to put forward a short bibliography of Serrão de Crasto by collating several bibliographical sources known to date. Generally, the rhetorical artifice present in the texts lies in switching around serious and jocular styles, as the poet shifts between the seriousness of the subject and the playfulness of the concepts, ornaments and words with which he treats the argument or, conversely, as he clothes a trivial or low subject with high ornaments. Most of his romances, sonnets and gloses feature this shifting between serious and facetious styles.","PeriodicalId":288631,"journal":{"name":"e-Letras com Vida: Revista de Estudos Globais — Humanidades, Ciências e Artes","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130428055","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We analyze the motives that lead the «letrados» to be praised or vituperated by Zurara. Finally, based on the Zurarian historiographic writing, we discuss the limits of assigning the term «letrado» to the chronicler himself.","PeriodicalId":288631,"journal":{"name":"e-Letras com Vida: Revista de Estudos Globais — Humanidades, Ciências e Artes","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121337432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

I begin by listing the terms that Camões used to refer to Africans, Middle Easterners and Indians and then I compare them with modern media representations of the same peoples. I conclude that, despite the temporal difference, modern representations are defined by continuity and similarity rather than by rupture and difference. In the final section, I try to assess the different memories regarding Camões and his work as well as the history of Portugal and of the African and Asian people in the contemporary world.","PeriodicalId":288631,"journal":{"name":"e-Letras com Vida: Revista de Estudos Globais — Humanidades, Ciências e Artes","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115536800","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This last characteristic of the parody is hardly taken into account in the various critical readings on the construction of the fictional discourse in O evangelho segundo Jesus Cristo (1991), since clearly the «deconstructive» parody, with the full subversion of biblical texts, can already be seen at a first reading of the narrative.","PeriodicalId":288631,"journal":{"name":"e-Letras com Vida: Revista de Estudos Globais — Humanidades, Ciências e Artes","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117203072","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
