However, the utility of goal models is greatly enhanced when an awareness of system intentions can feed into other stages in the requirements analysis process (e.g. requirements elaboration, validation, planning), and can be used as part of the entire system life cycle (e.g., architecture, process design, coding, testing, monitoring, adaptation, and evolution). In order to understand the progress that has been made in integrating goal models with downstream system development, we ask: what approaches exist which map/integrate/transform goal-oriented languages to other software artifacts or languages? To answer this question, we conduct a systematic survey, producing a roadmap of work summarizing 174 publications. Results include a categorization of the “why?” and “how?” for each approach. Findings show that there are a wide variety of proposals with many proposed sources and targets, covering multiple paradigms, motivated by a variety of purposes. We conclude that although much work has been done in this area, the work is fragmented and is often still in a proposal stage.","PeriodicalId":288073,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Research Challenges in Information Science (RCIS)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129576519","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Modeling of business processes at the conceptual level allows domain experts to cooperate in the analysis and to design the software. The whole business process model can be later translated to web services and executable BPEL [2] scripts which orchestrate all related parts together. Besides this automatization, it is necessary to define the structure of each data object in the business model. Web services usually communicate by exchanging XML documents [3]. Therefore, a software architect has to define also an XML schema of XML documents by an XML schema language, e.g. XML Schema [4]. In this paper, we present a method which derives and adapts optimal communication XML schemas for a given conceptual schema of a business process, complemented with a conceptual schema of exchanged data. We use a view on a part of a Platform Independent Model of a whole system as conceptual schema of exchanged data. We derive several XML schema documents from given inputs and choose the one which has minimal values for three metrics. The result of these three metrics is a measure of a quality of an XML schema document with respect to conceptual model of exchanged data and business rules applied on this document.","PeriodicalId":288073,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Research Challenges in Information Science (RCIS)","volume":"45 8","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114134312","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Simultaneously, the increasing pressure to develop software in less time and at lower costs drives software industry towards the promising paradigm of Software Product Line (SPL). However, different approaches have been advanced for modeling NFR of the traditional individual products and few approaches focused on a family of products. On the other hand, as a product line contains several products, it is impracticable and not feasible to verify NFR for each possible product. Therefore, there is a major need for verification approaches specific to product lines. In this paper, we present and analyze the main NFR modeling and verification approaches of SPL.","PeriodicalId":288073,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Research Challenges in Information Science (RCIS)","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114580075","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As other types of systems, STSs need to evolve in response to changing requirements and operational environments. Evolving STSs is a complex activity, which requires reconfiguration of technical components as well as rerouting of interactions among human and social actors. Moreover, reconfiguration has to respect participant autonomy, while coping with conflicting goals and noncooperation in identifying a configuration that minimizes changes relative to the current configuration. In this paper, we present a framework that supports design and evolution of STSs. The framework includes (i) the DEST language for modeling STSs as goal-oriented actors that interact via social commitments; (ii) techniques for building a network of interactions that fulfills participant requirements; and (iii) techniques for evolving an existing STS while minimizing change. We encode the design and evolution of STSs as an automated planning problem.","PeriodicalId":288073,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Research Challenges in Information Science (RCIS)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124209599","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Viennet","doi":"10.1109/RCIS.2014.6861048","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/RCIS.2014.6861048","url":null,"abstract":"This paper presents taxonomy-based recommender systems that propose relevant jobs to Facebook and LinkedIn users; they are being developed by Work4, a San Francisco-based software company and the Global Leader in Social and Mobile Recruiting that offers Facebook recruitment solutions; to use its applications, Facebook or LinkedIn users explicitly grant access to some parts of their data, and they are presented with the jobs whose descriptions are matching their profiles the most. In this paper, we use the O*NET-SOC taxonomy, a taxonomy that defines the set of occupations across the world of work, to develop a new taxonomy-based vector model for social network users and job descriptions suited to the task of job recommendation; we propose two similarity functions based on the AND and OR fuzzy logic's operators, suited to the proposed vector model. We compare the performance of our proposed vector model to the TF-IDF model using our proposed similarity functions and the classic heuristic measures; the results show that the taxonomy-based vector model outperforms the TF-IDF model. We then use SVMs (Support Vector Machines) with a mechanism to handle unbalanced datasets, to learn similarity functions from our data; the learnt models yield better results than heuristic similarity measures. The comparison of our methods to two methods of the literature (a matrix factorization method and the Collaborative Topic Regression) shows that our best method yields better results than those two methods in terms of AUC. The proposed taxonomy-based vector model leads to an efficient dimensionality reduction method in the task of job recommendation.","PeriodicalId":288073,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Research Challenges in Information Science (RCIS)","volume":"212 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132089168","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Twitter acts as a great source of rich information for millions of users. Twitter messages, or tweets, are limited to 140 data characters. This limitation in length makes difficult their analysis. However, various accessible meta-data are associated with every message. Taking into account these meta-data, they can be very useful for analysis and making decisions. Applying OLAP (On-Line Analytical Processing) and data mining technologies on large volumes of tweets is a challenge that would allow the extraction of information and knowledge such as user behavior, new emerging issues, trends. This paper proposes a generic multidimensional model dedicated to the OLAP of tweets with some results and analyses for testing this multi-dimensional model on various data extracted from tweets.","PeriodicalId":288073,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Research Challenges in Information Science (RCIS)","volume":"372 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114871254","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This operation allows managing complexity while supporting the modularity and reusability tasks. Due to the increase number of the involving models, their composition becomes a tedious task. For that, the need for maintaining traceability information is raised to help managing the composition operation. We propose in this work a graph-based model transformations approach, which aims to keep track of the model composition operation. Our objective is to capture traces in an automatic and reusable manner. Finally, a composition scenario is given to demonstrate the feasibility of our proposal.","PeriodicalId":288073,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Research Challenges in Information Science (RCIS)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123348068","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, it is difficult to decide which database management system fits best for a certain application. For many applications, different workload types often blend to mixed workloads that cause mixed requirements. The selection of an appropriate database management system is more critical for mixed workloads because classical domains with complementary requirements are combined, e.g., OLTP and OLAP. A definite decision for a database management system is not possible. Hybrid database system are developed to accept this challenge, i.e., these systems combine different storage approaches. However, a mutual optimization in hybrid systems is not available for mixed workloads. We develop a decision-support framework to provide application-performance estimation on a certain database management system on the one hand and to provide query optimization for hybrid database systems on the other hand. In this paper, we combine heuristics to a rule-based query optimization framework for hybrid relational database systems. That is, we aim on support for IT-services with volatile requirements. We evaluate the Aqua2 framework on standard database benchmarks. and show an acceleration of query execution on hybrid database systems.","PeriodicalId":288073,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Research Challenges in Information Science (RCIS)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125136979","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"An ISO/IEC 24744-derived modelling language for discourse analysis","authors":"Patricia Martín-Rodilla, Cesar Gonzalez-Perez","doi":"10.1109/RCIS.2014.6861073","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/RCIS.2014.6861073","url":null,"abstract":"Most of the information that is used as input for the development of information systems is originally produced in non-structured forms, such as verbal communications or free-style text documents. Some examples are requirements specifications or documents associated to translation of contents. In cases like these, there is a need to support the structuring and extraction of the underlying semantic relations embedded in the text, in order to fully understand and post-process it. There are models for the analysis of textual information, such as information retrieval solutions or topic maps. However, these models do not offer an integral, flexible and reusable approach that can assist in giving structure and semantics to the information within a standard framework. Discourse analysis techniques, in contrast, identify semantic relations (such as authors' intentionality or possible dependencies between text elements) in the textual information according to well-established linguistic patterns. Based on these techniques, this paper presents a modelling language based on the ISO/IEC 24744 metamodel that is capable of representing pieces of textual information in a highly structured manner, describing the semantic relations in the associated discourse. In addition, the paper shows an application of the proposed language to the domain of requirements engineering, illustrating the benefits of the application of the suggested approach as well as its possibilities in other textual domains.","PeriodicalId":288073,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Research Challenges in Information Science (RCIS)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126176444","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While initially rigorous applied methodologies similar to those used in mathematics and physics have been endorsed, a need for tailored methodologies that take the human factor in Information Systems into consideration has pushed for endorsement of qualitative methodologies such as Action Research. On the other hand, Design Research gained interest due to its aim at creating systems, which are fundamental components of Information Systems. A combination of both concepts led to the creation of Action Design Research; while at the same time a branch of Action Research, referred to as Insider Action Research, has emerged involving researcher(s) from within participating organizations. This paper discusses these methodologies and proposes the concept of Insider Action Design Research as a multi-methodological approach to conduct research in Information Systems, combining Design Science with Action Research while allowing the employees from within participating organizations to conduct the research.","PeriodicalId":288073,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Eighth International Conference on Research Challenges in Information Science (RCIS)","volume":"664 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122071269","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
