Media pluralism is therefore considered as the cornerstone of any functional democracy. Consequently, media pluralism becomes a central media policy which dominates debates in the political and media spheres of developed and developing countries alike. Many scholars have argued that a pluralistic media will help address the issue of media concentration and create platforms that will facilitate diverse media ownership and viewpoints which are essential in the consolidation of democracy.","PeriodicalId":286963,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Global Communication","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130964417","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are many factors that contribute to the e-readiness of a nation, but it is important to determine through data-based investigations the factors that actually contribute to the e-readiness progress of a nation, particularly in the developing countries. An attempt has been made to study the variables influencing the e-readiness at the individual and the institutional level of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) in Uttar Pradesh. Functionaries of the KVKs were selected as respondents of the study based on the whole enumeration method. Variables like experience, innovation proneness, organisational climate and decision-making pattern were found to be correlated with the overall institutional e-readiness of KVKs. The variables age, job performance and mass media exposure were found to be highly correlated with e-readiness as compared to others variables. It was found that less experienced and young professionals are more e-ready compared to old and experienced professionals. Job satisfaction was found to be a more influencing variable having positive significant correlation with ereadiness of NGO KVK professionals. Variables like age, experience, job satisfaction, job performance, organisational climate, decision-making pattern and mass media exposure were correlated with the overall individual e-readiness of KVK respondents.","PeriodicalId":286963,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Global Communication","volume":"7 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114129086","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hmar is a tribal community mostly inhabited in Dima Hasao district of Assam. Earlier, this district badly suffered from terrorism, which resulted in an increase in illegal activities and drug abuse. This research paper is an attempt to understand how the native and uneducated people of the villages would be given education as well as awareness against drug abuse in order to stop it. The study is carried out among the Hmar youth of Umrangsuo with population of 78 individuals and Hmunthazao with population of 65 individuals. Apart from political conflicts and insurgency, these people are one of the most venerable groups for HIV-AIDS, human trafficking and drug abuse. It has been observed by many groups and government organisations that tribal population of the Dima Hasao District of Assam is suffering from the problem of drug addiction. This study is based on primary data from selected villages of Dima Hasao District. Primary data were collected using questionnaire, schedules and personal interview. Purposive sampling method was applied to collect data.","PeriodicalId":286963,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Global Communication","volume":"382 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116327606","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These sources are judged as ‘rational’ through their location in large institutions – government or corporate. A fundamental logic that informs legitimacy of these sources is an emphasis on working within a routinised set of procedures. Journalists regularly judge sources as inside or outside of the world of ‘reasonable’ knowledge. Habermas in his celebrated work on communicative action outlines three types of reason: instrumental, ethical and aesthetic. These forms of rationality are appreciated in different components of modern life the systems world and lifeworld. For Habermas, these two worlds utilise different types of reasons. Bureaucracies, scientific activities and corporations are part of the systems world. The lifeworld, in contrast, is informed by social norms and ethical considerations. The new digital milieu has pushed traditional journalism to an area where news operations are much more responsive to their empowered and engaged audiences. This paper contends that in this new digital environment the officially sanctioned instrumental reason takes a backseat. This influences how stories and the stakes are constructed. This paper looks at the role of the lifeworld through online contacts to reveal the central values and epistemologies that inform journalistic choices and stories. This paper uses the theoretical paradigm of systems world and lifeworld to understand the motivations that drive the input for routinised media products of journalists. An online survey of 216 journalists, those with both print and electronic, based in the Indian cities of Delhi, Bhubaneswar and Kolkata, maps the usage of online resources and its influence on role perceptions and choice of sources. This paper hypothesises that the perception of journalists in a ‘disseminator’, ‘interpretative’ or ‘adversarial’ role impacts their choice of instrumental rationality or otherwise.","PeriodicalId":286963,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Global Communication","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132799371","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
