{"title":"Usage of COX-1 and COX-2 Nanomedicines in Nanotechnology","authors":"Manu Mitra","doi":"10.23880/nnoa-16000245","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.23880/nnoa-16000245","url":null,"abstract":"Nanomedicine is the branch of medical applications in nanotechnology. Nanomedicine ranges from medical applications of nanomaterials, biological devices to nanoelectronic biosensors, molecular nanotechnology such as biological machines. It utilizes knowledge and tools of nanotechnology to prevention and treatment of disease. Nanomedicine involves use of nanoscale materials such as biocompatible nanoparticles for delivery, sensing or actuation in a living organism. COX inhibitors are a class of pharmaceutical compounds that selectively target and inhibit the activity of the enzymes cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). These enzymes are key players in the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are important mediators of inflammation, pain, and fever in the body. By modulating prostaglandin production, COX inhibitors have significant therapeutic implications in the management of various inflammatory conditions, pain relief, and fever reduction. COX-1 is constitutively expressed in many tissues and is involved in maintaining normal physiological functions, including the protection of the stomach lining and platelet aggregation. In contrast, COX-2 is induced at sites of inflammation and is primarily responsible for producing prostaglandins involved in the inflammatory response. The selective inhibition of COX-2 allows for targeted suppression of inflammation while preserving the beneficial functions of COX-1. Moreover, recent research has shed light on the complex interplay between COX-1 and COX-2 in health and disease. Emerging evidence suggests that the balance between COX-1 and COX-2 inhibition may have implications beyond pain and inflammation. Investigating the diverse roles of these enzymes in different tissues and pathologies may open up new avenues for drug development and personalized medicine. COX inhibitors represent an important therapeutic class with a profound impact on managing pain, inflammation, and related disorders. Understanding the differential regulation and functions of COX-1 and COX-2 is crucial for optimizing the clinical use of COX inhibitors and developing novel strategies for targeted and safer anti-inflammatory therapies.","PeriodicalId":286628,"journal":{"name":"Nanomedicine & Nanotechnology Open Access","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136206886","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

About 95% of the intramammary infections are mainly caused by Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus agalactiae, also by Streptococcus dysgalactiae, Streptococcus uberis and Escherichia coli. Mastitis is global problem, which adversely affects health of animals, quality of milk and economics of milk production. It is the most common cause for the use of antibacterial drugs in lactating dairy cattle and results in presence of above-the-limit residues in antibacterial agent’s marketed milk. Antibacterial therapy of bacterial induced disease has been incriminated for resistance in bacteria; a major drawbacks of utilizing conventional antimicrobial agents. There is need of advanced technology to address the issue. Application of nanotechnology in the field of antibiotics contained in nano-sized carriers for drug delivery has explored along with their effectiveness in the treatment of infectious disease, including antibiotic resistant ones with minimal side effects. These are a combination of probiotics and prebiotics that have a positive impact on the host by enhancing the survival and activity of healthy gut microbial flora. Consolidating the two in the eating routine has useful impacts on gastrointestinal and natural well-being. However, diminished intestinal delivery of probiotic active ingredients due to losing vitality during absorption may occur. Due to the capacity to nanotechnology to increase the bioavailability of loaded active ingredients, it has been rapidly expanding its use in nutraceuticals, resulting in improved outcomes. This paper highlights the connections between the nanotechnology and probiotics.","PeriodicalId":286628,"journal":{"name":"Nanomedicine & Nanotechnology Open Access","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136207102","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
