The swift of mobility behavior happened in all over the city in the world. The WHO’s suggestion to maintain NPIs; the physical distancing is a push factor for people to reduce traveling and mobility. The slogan ‘stay at home’ became part of the new normal until nowadays, because publication of it was spread on all media to reach out the society. Yogyakarta City responds to the pandemic issue with the same strategy, minimizing mobility and travel. However, there is uniqueness in the practice on minimizing mobility and travel in 2020 and 2021. In 2020, the control of mobility and travel is based on community and in 2021 the control of mobility and travel is based on government policy. The security level of travel in 2020 is housing and urban kampung, and in 2021 is on the city level. The research is focused on the perception of respondent on minimizing travel and mobility between these two years. The data was analyzed using the Principle Component Analysis method. The quantitative result will be compared with observation, so it shows the important value to respond during uncertainty on travel and mobility issue. The study will give how local wisdom and public policy collaborate to produce urban resilience in Yogyakarta City.","PeriodicalId":286168,"journal":{"name":"Built Environment Studies","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132339808","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recent advances in transportation technology have introduced Autonomous Tram (AT) as an environmentally conscious option. This article investigates the prospect of implementing AT system using Surakarta as a case study. In doing so, we qualitative observe daily mobile patterns obtained through a primary survey and by considering existing Batik Solo Trans (BST) bus routes. Results indicate locations of road corridors most prominently used, overlapped with the existing bus services, indicating the geographic prospects of where to locate the AT system, The results from this study are expected to be a reference in AT research as a potentially sustainable public transportation service in Indonesia.","PeriodicalId":286168,"journal":{"name":"Built Environment Studies","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129612575","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

River-oriented life inflicted an adaptive behavior called budaya sungai. However, the globalization process has caused a shift from river-oriented to land-oriented and creates heterogeneity in riverside settlements. Creating variations of typology such as atas sungai, bantaran sungai, and tepian sungai. The emergence of these typologies indirectly creates urban leftover space as a transition called the in-between space. This research aims to identify the characteristic of the in-between spaces in riverside settlements so that the space does not become negative and can be utilized to meet the living needs of people who live in riverside settlements. The research used explanatory sequential design methods, based on the quantitative phase, a figure-ground analysis identified curvilinear as the typological patterns and homogenous as textural patterns of the riverside settlement. The map shows a high-density level of solids with no central open system void. Based on the qualitative phase, all in-between spaces have linear patterns and are mostly made of wood materials. 76.47% of enclosures are open but in contrast to land use which is mostly private. 2 out of 17 in-between spaces could not be characterized.","PeriodicalId":286168,"journal":{"name":"Built Environment Studies","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125180264","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the last decades, the international planning discourse has been increasingly attentive to a range of food security issues such as food deserts, urban agriculture, rural agricultural land conservation and resilient food systems. The existing studies mainly explore how planning can be more sensitive to food issues. However, to what extent Indonesian studies are attentive to the intersection of food and planning has not been clarified yet. This paper addresses this gap by reviewing 38 published studies in Indonesia to investigate how the existing studies in Indonesia link food security with planning. Food, as one of three primary needs, should be the concern of planners, especially in this era of uncertainties and global environmental change. Establishing food security should involve multidisciplinary research, including planning which can potentially contribute to managing the spatial dimensions of food production, distribution and utilisation.","PeriodicalId":286168,"journal":{"name":"Built Environment Studies","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132521717","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some functions of the building’s spaces have been changed to the new requirements, but the building's overall shape has been preserved. The purpose of this study was to examine and determine the differences in perceived thermal comfort values between occupants and visitors inside the building. Using the observation method and analyzing the data through PMV-PPD and correlating with the Adaptive method in the Center for the Built Environment (CBE) Thermal Comfort Tool Website, it shows that there are differences caused by the environmental climate that do not match the PMV standard from ASHRAE. This study also has shown a difference of 18% between the PMV value of visitors to occupants, where there are past factors that influence this difference, and also a difference of 0.58 between the PMV value of Fanger and Sugini theory (comparison between general theory that is often used with the local theory that has been researched), because of Indonesians' heat tolerance. In this study, it was found that there are variables that are not needed in the adaptive method approach of naturally ventilated buildings, namely the humidity in buildings that are in tropical and humid areas. The reason for this is that the effect of moisture on the thermal sensation is insignificant, and it can be neglected.","PeriodicalId":286168,"journal":{"name":"Built Environment Studies","volume":"20 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123637355","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Chinese residing in various countries can strongly maintain their culture, showing a distinctive architectural identity. The concept experienced adaptation to various natural and cultural contexts of countries outside their home country, the four-seasons country, Mainland China. The current situation of fast-growing construction, developments, and alteration of cultures and nature is both an opportunity and a threat to old Chinese housing. This paper aims to identify and understand architectural characteristics enabling physical conservation holistically. Research methods are in stages, the first stage being a literature review on typology and principles of Chinese architecture; the second stage is to structure and analyze the characteristic architectural findings; and the third stage is to draw conclusions from the process of interpretation, answering the research questions. Also, medium and small cities (in this case, municipalities due to having autonomous economies), through inquiring their characteristics in common, could provide early insights for anticipating further growths. Density database was made, combined with cadastral data. Two kinds of urban growth pattern (i.e. concentric and linear) were comprehended to extract gradient patterns from the cities using three indices. Through assigning a time span (2010–2018), the densification rates were also derived. The results indicate that there was a transformation from linear to concentric pattern while populations increased, yet not rare to total sprawling. Besides, there were influences on the compactness states from how the cities are positioned among the others within their local clusters where, on one hand, being too close to large cities would promote sprawling in long term while, on the other hand, being surrounded evenly by other cities is likely advantageous. Nevertheless, the degree of these advantages was not prevailing fairly across the Indonesian regions. Given the complexity and multidisciplinary nature of urban form, these findings are considerable for further planning and studies.","PeriodicalId":286168,"journal":{"name":"Built Environment Studies","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131892159","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this research, the study of shape, color, and ornament is the focus of the research. This research is a basic study for more in-depth research on the psychology of architecture in urban Kitakyushu. This study aims to study the shape, color, and ornamentation of buildings scattered in the center of urban growth in Kitakyushu. The survey results in this study will be assessed based on the theory of psychology in architecture. The method used in this research is a design and visual approach, with qualitative approaches. In the survey that has been carried out, it was found that the characteristics of Kitakyushu buildings are generally box-shaped with the use of natural colors, such as the color of the ground. This study also assumes that building design, color selection, and ornamentation affect urban vibes in Kitakyushu and directly affect the psychology of the people in it.","PeriodicalId":286168,"journal":{"name":"Built Environment Studies","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125990210","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Campaigns to reduce social distance have changed people's daily travel behaviors. Moreover, increased health awareness leads to increased bicycle usage, including in Jakarta. However, the lack of proper bicycle lanes along the road in Jakarta makes cyclists unsafe. Therefore, the Bicycle Level of Service method uses to evaluate the feasibility of a section of the bicycle lane in South Jakarta. As the number of cyclists in Jakarta grows, so do their characteristics. The diversity of cyclists may also reveal facility preferences. Hence, the Latent Class Analysis is carried out to determine a cyclist’s class likelihood. A sample of bicycle users in Jakarta and its surroundings was studied using descriptive quantitative analysis. Lastly, this study performed the cross-tabulation analysis to examine the relationship between cycling classes in Jakarta and the preferences on cycling facilities during the pandemic. The study results indicate that daily mobility in Jakarta changed during the pandemic, with an increase in bicycle users and the emergence of three cyclist classes: Recreational, Sport, and True. In addition, the feasibility evaluation of the existing bicycle lane shows an increase in the bicycle level of service since the time prior to the pandemic.","PeriodicalId":286168,"journal":{"name":"Built Environment Studies","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132930967","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These phenomena require the development of guidelines and planning policies which can manage the local climate. This research aims to formulate the spatial planning policies solution which use the concepts of urban sustainability and sustainable cooling to reduce UHI. Qualitative analysis was conducted through the analysis of the data from interviews on the multilevel governments based on spatial planning policies and the implementation. This spatial planning solution is divided in three solutions: technical policies, strategic policies, and partnership. The technical policies offer expanded vegetation area and living lab projects. Then the strategic policies consist of the cooling action plan and the incentive-disincentive mechanism. The last solution, partnership, is offered engagement with the public and collaboration with other cities or private parties. The spatial planning policies solutions which have high chance to reduce UHI, as determined from the interviews, is from technical policies and should be implemented by expanding green areas and forming urban living labs. The governments also offer three alternative solutions i.e. expanding green area combine with smart surface strategy, establishing cooling strategic plan, and penta-helix collaboration.","PeriodicalId":286168,"journal":{"name":"Built Environment Studies","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124870325","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
