This study considers figurative language from a traditional perspective as an embellishment of language and compares it with contemporary theory in literature especially in poetry. The main material for the analysis of figurative language in poetry is poetic texts of contemporary American poets like William Carlos Williams, Robert Frost, and Charles Bernstein. We selected 15 poems that contain a lot of figurative expressions and analyzed them namely “The Red Wheelbarrow”, “This Is Just to Say”, “To a Poor Old Woman”, “The Road Not Taken”, “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening”, “Fire and Ice”, “Mending Wall”, etc. The authors conducted about evaluation of the use of metaphors, hyperboles, idioms, and similes. The most used figurative language in all the analyzed poems is metaphor. It occurred in all 15 poems. Figurative language adds an element of beauty and artistry to poetry. Metaphors, similes, and other figurative expressions infuse the language with color, imagery, and creative aesthetics that captivate the reader's senses.","PeriodicalId":285488,"journal":{"name":"Bulletin of the Karaganda University. The aim of the study is the identification of the English phraseologisms with the meaning of speech behavior defining the phraseologisms directly related to household realities. In the article, the English phraseologisms denoting speech behavior are distinguished from other phraseologisms and among them the phraseological units reflecting household realities are chosen in order to reveal their meaning. Phraseologisms trace the connection of the language with culture and they are characterized by various historical facts. All events in the life of the nation obtain their reflection in the vocabulary. Phraseological units of speech behavior reflectinghousehold realities, selected from phraseological dictionaries, are analyzed to identify the most striking examples of the household realities. In the course of our research, the methods of continuous sampling were used for the selection of language material and also the methods of description, quantitative calculation. The analysis of the linguistic material showed that the most frequent among the household realities of the English language were phraseological units denoting the names of food and drinks. This is followed by the phraseological units describing dwellings and constructions and the phraseological units depicting clothes and shoes. Рассмотрены виды корпусов, их применение в лингвистической сфере научного знания, различия между корпусами трех языков (английского, казахского и русского). Описано применение корпусной лингвистики, в целях анализа языковых особенностей и коммуникативных стратегий в процессе создания речевых сообщений. Цель статьи — проанализировать коммуникативные стратегии экологического дискурса. За основу исследования взяты тексты на трех языках, представленные в корпусах английского языка iWeb, Национального корпуса русского языка и Алматинского корпуса казахского языка. После отбора фрагментов речи произведен их последующий дискурсивный и стилистический анализ, с целью выявления примеров доминирующих стратегий и лингво-стилистических средств их выражения, а также представлена интерпретация представленных фактов. В статье сделан акцент на стратегии «повышения» и «понижения», которые, в свою очередь, позволили отобрать коммуникативные тактики следующего типа: тактика анализ–плюс, популяризации действий, направленных на бережное отношение к природе и окружающей среде; тактика большинства; тактика рациональной аргументации в пользу защиты окружающей среды; тактика анализ–минус; тактика обвинения; тактика безличного обвинения; тактика обличения и тактика угрозы. Filmonyms as one of the types of small-format texts has become the object of linguistic research. The significance of the film discourse as an audiovisual discourse is determined by the possibilities of its impact on the addressee. Author comprehensively analyzed the works of foreign and Kazakhstani linguists who studied the film discourse from various aspects. The purpose of the article is to identify linguistic and pragmalinguistic interpretation of Kazakhstani film titles. To achieve the goal, the following tasks were set: to consider semantic interpretation of the titles of feature films, to identify aesthetic function of film discourse, to group films into semantic categories, to offer the definition of the concept of “film discourse”. The scientific significance of the research work expands the research scope of film-discourse as a type of institutional discourse. Practical significance is due to the fact that research results can be used as materials for preparing lectures and cases on audiovisual discourse and pragmalinguistic features applied to the names of Kazakhstani films should undoubtedly become the object of further research by linguists.","PeriodicalId":285488,"journal":{"name":"Bulletin of the Karaganda University. The publication was prepared on the basis of observations made by the author while working on the second part of the “History of Russian Literature”, in his scientific and pedagogical activities, as well as the report at “The Golden Age of Russian Literature: the experience of reading” the educational-cultural forum, held in the capital of the Republic of Serbia – Belgrade on 28-29 June 2022. It is dedicated to the problems of reception and transformation of Russian classical literature in Azerbaijan in the post-Soviet period.
