The novel discusses the concept of heterodox teachers in Islam. The novel is presented in the context of opposing orthodox Islamic discourse on the concept of ‘guru’. To discover the concept of ‘guru’ in Sanggarguri, this article applies representation theory with a constructionist approach. With that approach, the novel is assumed not to be a presentation about Lombok, but a representation of Lombok. Data were language, both word and paragraph, both in narrative and metaphorical form. Data analysis was performed using semiotic and discourse methods. The results of the analysis show that the novel Sanggarguri conceptualizes Lombok into a traditional discourse by using the names of flowers (kembang) as stages that exist in Sasak Islamic spirituality. The stages from gadung flower to ‘Sanggar Guri teacher’, a wisdom expert teacher, reveal that the concept of a teacher in heterodox Sasak Islam is open to anyone. It belongs to anyone and anywhere. The concept is different from the concept of ‘guru’ in orthodox Islam promoted by ‘tuan guru’, whose knowledge is connected to Haramain. Therefore, only a few people can become ‘tuan guru’. The discourse of ‘guru’ in Sanggarguri is against the discourse of ‘tuan guru’ on the meaning of ‘guru’.","PeriodicalId":285104,"journal":{"name":"Adabiyyāt: Jurnal Bahasa dan Sastra","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125681756","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Environment destruction that has occurred in decades endangers the life on earth. Based on the ecofeminism, the one who gets the worst impact of this devastation is women. Furthermore, the ecofeminists say that there is a very close relation between women and nature. Clean water, forest, farming, and health become women’s concern. In short, these two ideas let women become aware of the environmental issues. They will take action or speak out whenever environment is mistreated or abused. In Homeland, Kingsolver presents a picture of American Indian descendants life that gives high appreciation to nature embedded in their traditional values and customs through the female characters. She brings us to the fascinating exploration of the values that shows the connection between domination over women and nature. However, modernism brings about alienation toward her ancestor’s land. The song lyric is analyzed by Riffaterre’s Semiotics Theory which introduces two levels of reading. Based on the analysis of this research, the potential hypogram shows that the parents give advices about reaching for dreams to their child who is in despair. The dream has something to do with raindrops philosophy. The models found are juhdun ‘effort’, amal ‘dream’, alwān ‘colours’, dan hayāh ‘life’. The matrix is “advises about human as khalifatullah in the world”. The actual hypogram is human’s missions as khalifatullah based on verses of al-Quran, hadith of the prophet, and interpretations of some mufassir such as Quraish Shihab and al-Buthi. It then is concluded that khalifah is like raindrop. It emits various colour spectrums, shows beautiful rainbow, and spreads-out love. One raindrop collaborates to another and sticks together to become pulse of the world.","PeriodicalId":285104,"journal":{"name":"Adabiyyāt: Jurnal Bahasa dan Sastra","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130892175","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition to gaining a wider readership, the understanding of the literary text will improve. Readers who may not fully understand the version in the original language have the opportunity to digest the story thoroughly. The comprehensive understanding becomes more important when dealing with foreign literature talking about Indonesia, such as Kevin Kwan's Crazy Rich Asians trilogy. The trilogy was translated into Bahasa as Kaya Tujuh Turunan (2016), Kekasih Kaya Raya (2017), and Masalah Orang Kaya (2018). This article examines how Indonesia is represented in the trilogy what factors influence the construction. The three novels were analyzed using the representation theory proposed by Stuart Hall with the descriptive-qualitative method. There are two representations of Indonesia, as a nation and as a state. Indonesian is represented of as a nation Chinese-Indonesians with their newly acquired wealth who are obsessed with having white skin and foreign husbands, on the one hand, non-Chinese Indonesians who work as manual due to lack of education on the other hand. Meanwhile, Indonesia as a state is represented as a developing rural country with rich and beautiful natural resources, yet are exploited by other countries and stolen by few government officials, resulting in weak economic and military situation.","PeriodicalId":285104,"journal":{"name":"Adabiyyāt: Jurnal Bahasa dan Sastra","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132960150","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
