One of the Catatan Najwa TV Programs entitled “Trias Koruptika” indicates the ideology in the text affected by the social context when the record was created. This study aims to see the construction of ideology and social context behind the writing of the text. This research is qualitative descriptive research. A theory used is a critical analysis of Norman Fairclough’s perspective that includes analysis in three dimensions: analysis of language text, discourse practice, and socio-cultural practice. The results showed that in text analysis, Catatan Najwa voiced disappointment, criticism and built a negative representation of three government institutions due to a corruption case. In the practice of discussion, the ideology can be conveyed and accepted well by society. In practice, translators often need to change the structure of their translations. This kind of techniques or methods of translation is often called shift. Shift can occur in different levels, which can include a clause, sentence, or paragraph level. By analyzing students’ translation using the perspective of Systemic Functional Linguistics by Halliday, this study finds several shifts in terms of theme-rheme classification and theme constituents. Shifts in theme-rheme classification can be categorized into: a) a change from rheme into theme, b) from theme into rheme, c) addition of textual theme, and d) deletion or omission of textual theme. In terms of theme constituents, shifts were found in four categories, namely a) shifts from a morpheme into a word, b) from a word into a phrase, c) from a phrase into a word, and d) from a clause into a word. The inequality is caused by the representation of the superior (West) and the inferior (East) which is constantly being produced. The novel Uṣfur min al-Syarq by Taufiq al-Hakim as one of Arabic travel literature is considered to offer a different view from other Arabic travel literature by proposing the value of equality between East and West. This research is expected to be able to resolve the problem of inequality in relations between East and West as represented in Arabic travel literature. This research uses another representation strategy from Carl Thompson's travel literary concept which consists of colonial, neo-colonial, and post-colonial strategies. The results of this study found that the representations of the others made by al-Hakim which were dominated by the use of colonial and post-colonial strategies showed that the author occupied two opposing positions. On the one hand, al-Hakim is still trapped in colonial discourse and on the other hand, al-Hakim is not entirely successful in bringing the post-colonial travel agenda to escape from Western hegemony. The equality proposed by al-Hakim regarding the East is inseparable from Western assistance. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach by adapting generative morphological theories as the framework. The research objects are 32 new word formations found in various texts in online newspapers in Indonesia collected between April 2020 to August 2020. The data were analyzed using the top-down technique distribution method. This method uses a determinant in the language element itself, namely the data selection technique based on specific categories in terms of grammarism in accordance with the natural characteristics of the research data. The study shows that the new word formation in modern Indonesian related to COVID-19 can be obtained by coining roots, compounding, abbreviation, and acronym. Those unique word formations are originated primarily from Indonesian and English. The function of its usage is mainly referential (abbreviation and acronym) and expressive (roots and compounding). We create new words to fulfill the designation needs of new issues that appear in society. It also has the objective to find the solutions for the problems. To approach the translation issues, the study uses Christiane Nord’s four translation problems which consists of pragmatic translation problems, convention-related translation problems, linguistic translation problems, and text-specific translation problems. Molina and Albir’s techniques of translation are applied to fix the problems. The study uses qualitative methods to analyze the translation issues. He, in purpose, does not write about slavery that is commonly read as the cause of the US Civil War. He writes a lot about the murder of women and children by the northern US army soldiers in southern districts. He also writes a lot about the cooperation of his white character with a Cherokee. This research is a qualitative descriptive study using the comparative literature method. This research will describe and comprehend the comparison of independent female characters in the Pramudya Ananta Toer’s Bumi Manusia and in Brecht’s Mutter Courage und Ihre Kinder by Bertolt Brecht. The results showed that from the comparison of two independent female character in two literary works, namely novel Bumi Manusia and drama Mutter Courage und Ihre Kinder, it can be concluded that there are many similarities of the two independent female characters despite the difference. Equation (affinity) also showed that the two works were created by different authors are also mutually influence. Drama Mutter Courage und Ihre Kinder by Bertolt Brecht created in 1938 possibly affect Bumi Manusia novel created by Pramoedya Ananta Toer in 1975. They use this competence in order to serve their guests optimally. This study aims to examine Arabic speaking competence of tourist guides in Puncak, West Java. This study uses a qualitative approach with various data collection techniques including participatory observation, indirect observation, and interviews with a number of key informants. The key informants in this research are tourist guides, tourist guide association committee, and tour operators in Puncak area. This study found that language acquisition methods affect the speaking competence of the tourist guide, which may increase over time depending on the intensity of interaction with tourists and language usage. These tourist guides show different levels of language proficiencies including grammar accuracy, different ability to avoid using slang, and involvement in various topics of conversation. Self-taught guides normally have limited abilities in almost all of the above indicators, while guides who studied Arabic either formally or semi-formally tend to be more competent although they cannot avoid using Arabic slang.
