The performance of the IRS-aided communication systems, on the other hand, highly depends on the controllability and consistency of the IRS elements. Previous works mainly discussed the IRS system performance with analog mismatches in the single-user scenario. In this paper, we study the performance of the IRS-aided downlink multi-user multiple-input single-output (MU-MISO) system in the presence of analog mismatches, where the inter-user interference (IUI) may greatly degrade the system performance. The upper bound of general system performance expression is derived. Closed-form expressions can be obtained for some special cases. We show that the system performance is significantly degraded when analog mismatches exist, since the IUI shows up and can not be completely removed.","PeriodicalId":283606,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 32nd Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC)","volume":"132 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115967156","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For their mass adoption, XR head–mounted devices have to be made light and sleek in design, which may require distributed computing capabilities, where high-end devices wirelessly offload computational tasks to the accompanying processing units. To satisfy demanding wireless connectivity requirements of the emerging XR applications, the devices are expected to rely on radio technologies that operate in millimeter-wave (mmWave) frequency range and require directional transmission. In this paper, we evaluate a dynamic system of distributed 3D wearable networks operating in the mmWave band. We provide closed-form expressions for the session drop probability, the mean number of sessions that can run simultaneously, and its lower bound, which aid in understanding the impact of different parameters on the coexistence of dense directional wearable networks in the 3D space.","PeriodicalId":283606,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 32nd Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116957781","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the coded multicast delivery design for decentralized coded caching with heterogeneous cache sizes and link rates is still an open problem. To this end, joint-cache-channel (JCC) coding is exploited in this paper. More specifically, a novel coded multicast delivery scheme that explores JCC coding is developed for the practical case with a finite number of packets per file. Instead of directly constructing the conflict graph at each packet level in existing studies, a packet-merging mechanism and a color-merging mechanism are developed to achieve the conflict graph in packet cluster level for coded multicast delivery so as to harvest the performance gain of JCC coding. The information-theoretic analysis of the transmission time via JCC coding is further conducted in the asymptotic regime when the number of packets per file approaches infinity, which provides the theoretical coded caching gain by JCC coding. Simulation results further show that compared to the existing method, the transmission time can be effectively reduced by our proposed scheme.","PeriodicalId":283606,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 32nd Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC)","volume":"134 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116349598","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The exploitation of mmWave requires the use of compact antenna arrays with hundreds of antenna elements, which leads to very directional beam patterns. The beams at both the transmitter and the receiver are trained periodically to maintain accurate beam alignments. The trade-off between the training overhead and the achievable data rate must be considered. In this paper, we propose an adaptive beam training algorithm using deep reinforcement learning for tracking dynamic mmWave channels. Based on the patterns learnt from historical data, the proposed algorithm can sense the changes in the environment and switch between different beam training methods so that a high data rate can be achieved with a minimum amount of beam training.","PeriodicalId":283606,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 32nd Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115291602","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we construct a high-rate spatial multiplexing aided generalized spatial modulation (SMx-GSM) scheme which guarantees a very low detection complexity. Benefiting from the codebook structure, a tree-search based MIMO detector for the SMx-GSM scheme can be devised. Simulation results show that the detection complexity can be significantly reduced, which makes a highrate system feasible, and an error performance which is very close to that of the maximum-likelihood (ML) detector can be achieved, especially for the case of a high-rate large-scale SMx- GSM system with a large number of activated transmit antennas.","PeriodicalId":283606,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 32nd Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115335339","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The UAV’s high mobility potential offers additional degrees of freedom for effective deployment. Therefore, the three-dimensional (3D) deployment of UAV is one of the key challenges in UAV-assisted communication systems. In this paper, we address the problem of UAV deployment in 3D space to provide on-demand coverage to the ground users to maximize the sum rate. We consider realistic UAV-ground channel model derived from extensive experiments. The problem formulated is non-convex. To obtain the optimal location, we approximate the rate expression to identify the concave regions and propose a low-complexity solution by applying alternating optimization. Through simulation results, we provide valuable insights into the low-complexity solution.","PeriodicalId":283606,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 32nd Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC)","volume":"453 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123370797","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In 5G (fifth generation) cellular networks, adopting MEC can guarantee ultralow latency. To enhance the MEC quality, optimization of the user service profile migration according to the user mobility is essential. However, this optimization establishes an NP-hard problem. Moreover, high-speed 5G base stations with MEC servers often experience high energy consumption. As conventional service migration algorithms such as those based on profile tracking and game theory tend to fall in local optima and neglect energy consumption constraints, we propose a memetic algorithm based on community detection local search (MA-CDLS) to continuously optimize the service migration in 5G MEC scenarios. During busy periods or in crowded areas, MA-CDLS adopts a single-objective optimization of user-perceived latency to achieve high-performance 5G services. During light-load periods or in uncrowded areas, MA-CDLS uses two measures, namely the user-perceived latency and energy consumption, to realize energy-efficient 5G services. MA-CDLS effectively reduces the search space and speeds up the elite selection in the meme operator. Experiments in simulated scenarios show that MA-CDLS achieves a lower user-perceived latency and energy consumption, than the traditional profile tracking and game theory methods, especially during congestion.","PeriodicalId":283606,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 32nd Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124941419","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

XR traffic is characterized by pseudo periodic packet arrival, high bit rate, and low latency requirement. It is challenging to support such traffic in a small device form factor with limited battery size, e.g., head-mounted display (HMD) or XR glasses. Therefore, it is desired for 5G NR to support effective UE PS techniques. We first discuss a few PS techniques defined in 5G NR specifications Release 15 and 16. Then, we introduce new PS techniques that are evaluated via system level simulations with the UE power consumption model defined in a 3GPP. Evaluation results show that UE power consumption can be substantially reduced by the new PS techniques, up to 40%.","PeriodicalId":283606,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 32nd Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC)","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122559396","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We develop a novel optimization framework that minimizes the total energy consumption of all devices by jointly optimizing the UAV’s trajectory, device association and respective transmit power allocation at every time slot while ensuring that every device should achieve a given transmission rate constraint. As this joint optimization problem is nonconvex and combinatorial, we adopt reinforcement learning (RL) based solution methodology that effectively decouples it into three individual optimization problems. The formulated problem is transformed as a Markov decision process (MDP) where UAV learns its trajectory according to its current state and corresponding action aiming to maximize the reward under the current policy. Finally, we conceive state-action-reward-state-action (SARSA), a low complexity iterative algorithm for updating the current policy in the case of randomly deployed IoT devices which achieves good computational complexity-optimality tradeoff via numerical results. We find that the proposed methodology reduces the total energy consumption of all devices by 9.23%, 14.06%, and 15.87% in the case of 80, 100, and 120 available time slots of UAV respectively.","PeriodicalId":283606,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 32nd Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122631254","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The previous scheme is user side detection focusing on two channels used by a RAP. That scheme can detect a RAP in stable traffic environment by revealing the channel used with a Legitimate Access Point (LAP) with intentional interference. However, the detection performance is degraded in the real environment where traffic is more unstable because it affects the traffic on the channel. Thus, it is necessary to design the scheme which is independent of such factors. In this paper, we propose RAP detection by using Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) failure under the Media Access Control (MAC) address duplication. Our main idea is that the traffic is relayed via a RAP and a LAP on the LAN path between a client and a gateway under the attack. This is because the RAP must be established between a client and a LAP to provide Internet connection. On the basis of this idea, the proposed scheme reveals that the Access Point (AP) with which a client connects is a RAP by discovering the MAC address of a LAP on the path. In order to find the MAC address, we leverage the phenomenon that a client cannot receive ARP reply packets in the situation where its MAC address and that of a AP are duplicated on the path. By doing this, the presence of a LAP is revealed, which can judge that the connected AP is a RAP. In our evaluation, the proposed scheme achieves accuracy of 96.5% even in unstable traffic environment. True positive rate and false positive rate are 31.0% higher and 9.0% lower than the previous scheme. Furthermore, the proposed scheme can detect RAPs accurately in real environment where the previous scheme cannot.","PeriodicalId":283606,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 32nd Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130277740","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
