PSSS can adapt the spreading gain according to channel conditions. When this modulation technique is combined with external forward error correction (FEC), a challenge arises in adjusting the gains from FEC and PSSS to achieve the highest spectral and energy efficiency. We profile the bit error rate (BER) and energy efficiency as a function of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for PSSS combined with low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes implemented in 28 nm CMOS technology. This analysis reveals that the gain provided by PSSS should be used only in exceptional cases, whereas LDPC codes provide the gain at a lower spectral- penalty. Moreover, we simplify our system by reducing the number of LDPC code rates. As compared to IEEE 802.11n, we exclude the 2/3 and 3/4 FEC code rates from the hardware and compensate these modes by using the variable-rate PSSS.","PeriodicalId":283606,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 32nd Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC)","volume":"33 1-2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116722806","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The goodness of fit of α–µ to the small-scale fading of the measured channels is evaluated in terms of the Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS) test. The KS test revealed the capability of α–µ distribution to capture the fading characteristics of THz wireless channels. To highlight the importance of this study and the applicability to the theoretical analysis of THz wireless systems, for indicative values of α and µ, the ergodic capacity of THz wireless systems is assessed.","PeriodicalId":283606,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 32nd Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125168968","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We propose the use of optical-orthogonal frequency division multiple access (O-OFDMA) signaling to manage the multiple access (MA) requirement for relatively high-rate medical applications. In particular, we consider asymmetrically clipped O-OFDMA and analyze its performance in terms of bit-error-rate and outage probability in the presence of multi-user time synchronization errors. These latter may occur due to mobility and random transmitter orientations, and will impact the link performance by inducing MA interference (MAI). We show that the effect of MAI increases with increasing the data rate. For instance, for 1 and 2 Mbps data rates, to achieve a target bit-error-rate of 10−3, the link distance is limited to 1.9 and 1 m, respectively, compared to 2.2 and 1.8 m in the absence of MAI.","PeriodicalId":283606,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 32nd Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC)","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127637019","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This necessitates the use of relay-assisted systems to extend the transmission range. In this paper, we investigate experimentally the performance of vehicular multi-hop VLC systems in outdoor environments. Particularly, we first examine the effect of ambient noise on signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) during a whole day. Then, we conduct two multi-hop experiments, i.e., one at daytime and one at nighttime. We measure the bit error rate (BER) for each individual hop and then obtain the overall performance of the multi-hop system. We further compare experimental BER with theoretical BER to confirm our results.","PeriodicalId":283606,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 32nd Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128109620","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hence, multiple measurements for characterization of propagation at these frequencies in different scenarios are being conducted all around the world. This also impulses activities on standardization of measurement equipment and methodologies to define common practices and make measurements from different actors comparable. That will be the case even for the ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC) services, but the overall situation and the feasibility of the different deployment options will depend on the characteristics of the URLLC service in question. URLLC services with relaxed latency requirements, allowing multiple transmission attempts, can tolerate a decent level of inter-cell interference while still being able to guarantee the desired quality-of-service for all users, which makes it possible to improve the URLLC service capacity by adding new gNodeBs with omnidirectional or directional antennas. However, when the URLLC services require extremely low latency that do not allow for retransmissions, the system performance becomes quite sensitive to the inter-cell interference, which means that in practice the gNodeBs should be equipped with beamformed antennas to reach high levels of URLLC service capacity. Finally, an active distributed antenna system could be an efficient way to secure good coverage throughout the desired service area.","PeriodicalId":283606,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 32nd Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC)","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134071257","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The network consists of a base station and a near receiver that are located inside a protected zone, free of eavesdroppers, while a far user is located outside. Herein, it is considered that the source transmits a superposed jamming signal to enhance the secrecy performance. In this sense, imperfections on the removal of the jamming signal by the legitimate receivers are also investigated. Integral-form exact and closed-form approximate expressions for the secrecy outage probability are derived by employing stochastic geometry tools. The expressions are corroborated via Monte Carlo simulations.","PeriodicalId":283606,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 32nd Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133958344","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are two main Radio access technologies (RATs) that support vehicular communications: the Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) and the Cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) standard. Among its use cases, the C-V2X technology allows communication between users, that is, vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication, but also the vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication. In our work, we focus on enhancing the quality of the V2I link through V2V communications. We use idle users to boost the signal coming from the Base Station (BS) and therefore to improve the coverage of the overall network. Furthermore, we analyze a scenario where both standards coexist: the cellular users enhance the signal from the BS while DSRC users act as interferes in the relay-assisted link. To model the interference of the DSRC users, we consider both perfect and imperfect Carrier Sense Multiple Access (CSMA). Our scenario is a 2-dimensional (2D) Manhattan grid where BSs, vehicular users, and streets are placed randomly. We provide analytical expressions of the coverage probability for the direct link and the individual parts of the relay-assisted link by leveraging tools from stochastic geometry (SG). We compare the analytical results to Monte Carlo system-level simulations in order to validate our model.","PeriodicalId":283606,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 32nd Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC)","volume":"153 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134481758","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To start with, we propose a prediction algorithm which consists of two stages. The first stage aims at reconstructing the high-resolution (pre-quantization) receive signal. The second stage then predicts channel coefficients from this reconstructed signal. A drawback of this algorithm is that certain second moments of the channel statistics are required. In case of high-resolution (no quantization) observations, a recently introduced neural network based approach was able to predict channels even without the use of second order statistics. A low-SNR formulation of the proposed two stage algorithm motivates us to employ the neural network based method also in the case of one-bit quantization. Numerical simulations demonstrate the validity of this approach. We observe that the obtained channel predictor can compete with the algorithm that makes use of the second order statistics.","PeriodicalId":283606,"journal":{"name":"2021 IEEE 32nd Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133625689","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The focus is on the channel sounder structure, link budget as well as system calibration performance. Moreover, we presented a simple wideband directional measurement in a rich scattering laboratory scenario with the two discussed channel sounders.
