In SCMA uplink burst transmission, user detection and channel estimation require significant pilot overhead. Dispersive channels with relative small coherent frequency / time, as well as fading diversity techniques, both lead to a result that multiple fading blocks are taken during one transmission. In this paper, a new method of separating SCMA user detection and channel estimation among different fading blocks in dispersive channels is proposed to reduce pilot overhead. Further more, according to the sparsity of SCMA codebooks, a new mapping pattern from SCMA layers to physical resources is proposed to improve channel estimation performance with given pilots. The effectiveness of the proposal are described and analyzed, meanwhile the complexity is evaluated. Numerical simulations are performed to substantiate the performance of the proposed algorithm.","PeriodicalId":282352,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Communication Systems (ICCS)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132071229","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since the circumstances whether secondary transmitters (STs) are transmitting or not are different, two detection thresholds for energy detector are employed. In this paper, we investigate the problem of optimizing detection thresholds to maximize both energy efficiency (EE) and harvesting efficiency (HE) in RF-powered FD CRNs under the constraint that the primary user (PU) is protected. We define a new objective function, i.e., the weighted sum of EE and HE and formulate the optimization problem mathematically. Further we optimize the defined objective function and obtain the optimal detection thresholds and the corresponding EE and HE. Simulation results are given to verify the proposed optimization scheme and the theoretical analyses.","PeriodicalId":282352,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Communication Systems (ICCS)","volume":"110 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113969361","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We first study a spectrum aggregation (SA)-based spectrum assignment algorithm, which enables secondary users (SUs) to gather multiple spectrum fragments into one channel to support high bandwidth requirement, to improve the spectrum utilization efficiency for the considered system. Then we aim to maximize the system capacity of the considered CR network while considering many practical limitations, such as minimal rate requirement of SUs, transmission power budget and interference constraints of the system. Since the formulated optimization task is a challenging mixed integer programming problem that is NP-hard, a user-oriented subcarrier allocation algorithm is introduced to remove the integer constraints and then for a given subchannels assignment, a fast barrier method is developed to tackle the optimal power allocation problem, the key of which is to calculate Newton step with approximate linear complexity instead of 0{N3) in standard method. Simulation results validate that our algorithm is significantly better than the standard technique and can maximize the sum capacity of the system.","PeriodicalId":282352,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Communication Systems (ICCS)","volume":"153 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122617988","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

VANETs generally include the Service Channel (SCH) and Control Channel (CCH). In the traditional 802.11p protocol, the length ratio between CCH and SCHs is fixed. This paper presents a variable SCH interval(VSI) multichannel medium access control (MAC) scheme under the non-saturated channel. Under this scheme, we can control the length of CCH interval and SCH interval. This paper uses three-dimensional Markov chain model to calculate the delay of WAVE service announcement (WSA) frame. We propose a VSI MAC calculation model under unsaturated condition to achieve the maximum throughput. The simulation results indicate that the proposed scheme can help VANETs increase the unsaturated throughput of SCHs and lower the transmission delay of data frames obviously.","PeriodicalId":282352,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Communication Systems (ICCS)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123002726","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to accurately control the level of the transmit power, this paper proposes a mathematical model for the the RF front-end module with closed-loop power control. By transforming transmit power calibration into a signal estimation problem, we are able to apply the recursive least squares (RLS) filtering algorithm to adaptively adjust the parameters of RF power amplifier so that the output power level can converge to the target rapidly. Compared with the traditional calibration method, the proposed calibration algorithm delivers better RF transmit power accuracy with lower computational complexity. To decrease human interaction errors and user privacy concerns of existing fall detection systems, a new generation of fall detection systems is emerging. The new trend is to design non-wearable devices that can monitor the physical activities of the home user using radio waves reflected off the body. This paper reports an in-home radio measurement campaign at 5.9 GHz, which has been conducted to study the impacts of different physical activities of the user, including fall incidents, on the channel transfer function (CTF) and the power delay profile (PDP) of indoor mobile radio channels. The home is equipped with a radio channel sounder that records the impulse response of the channel, in which the user behaves like a moving scatterer. Experimental results reveal that fingerprints of the user activities on the time-variant (TV) CTF and the TVPDP can be traced and classified both illustratively and computationally. It is shown that a so-called differential PDP (DPDP) ignores fine variations of the channel and highlights major changes, such as a fall incident. Mathematical expressions for the key characteristics of the channel are also derived under non-stationary propagation conditions. The results in this paper are important for the development of robust detection algorithms, which are an integral part of emerging fall detection systems using radio waves.","PeriodicalId":282352,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Communication Systems (ICCS)","volume":"103 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116032658","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, how to jointly optimize the allocation of users, contents, and spectrum resources remains uncertain. In this paper, we address the joint peer discovery and resource allocation problems by combining both the social and physical layer information. The social relationship, which is modeled as the probability of selecting similar contents and estimated by using the Bayesian nonparametric models, is used as a weight to characterize the impact of social features on D2D pair formation and content sharing. Next, we propose a three-dimensional iterative matching algorithm to maximize the sum rate of D2D pairs weighted by the intensity of social relationships while guaranteeing the quality of service (QoS) requirements of both cellular and D2D links simultaneously. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is able to achieve more than 90% of the optimum performance with a computation complexity one thousand times lower than the exhaustive matching algorithm. Simulation results also demonstrate that the satisfaction performance of D2D receivers can be increased significantly by incorporating social relationships into the resource allocation design.","PeriodicalId":282352,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Communication Systems (ICCS)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115521879","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A real-time measurement of equipment operating conditions can reduce maintenance cost and improve supplies reliability. However, the installation cost for wiring monitoring sensors on high voltage (HV) devices can be very high. Providing an autonomous wireless sensor network (WSN) can reduce the installation cost and make the monitoring sensors more accessible in a substation environment. In this work, we study an autonomous WSN in a substation area, using energy harvesting and wireless transfer of energy. In our model energy is first scavenged from the available electric field around high voltage devices and then will be transferred to the sensor by radiating radio frequency (RF) signals. This paper only considers one sensor scenario. However, the method that is proposed here can be generalized to multiple sensors as a future work.","PeriodicalId":282352,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Communication Systems (ICCS)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114739347","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But now only satellite can provide such kind of service, which is expensive and not cost-effectively for ever-increasing human activities in the ocean. Meanwhile, the maritime radio system, which is primarily used by maritime transportation industry for navigation, distress handling as well as rescue and safety operations, also finds difficulties in satisfying ever-increasing demand on communication capacity to realize safe, green and intelligent maritime transport. This is mainly due to the fact that a limited amount of bandwidth is allocated to this system. Different from many proposals available in the literature, which address these two issues separately, this paper discusses an architecture to handle them together by exploiting the spectrums licensed to mobile cellular networks. It is expected to enhance the maritime radio system while fostering the deployment of marine Internet in water areas near coastlines with reduced deployment cost.","PeriodicalId":282352,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Communication Systems (ICCS)","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126130746","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
