The analysis of these big data can be leveraged to channel the data from individual meters into knowledge valuable to electric power utilities and end-consumers. Short-term load forecasting is essential for ensuring both efficient and reliable operations of smart grids. This paper proposes an improved Radial Basis Function neural network model (RBF-PCA-WFCM) for short-term load forecast, which use the weighted Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) clustering algorithm based on Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to determine the basis function centers, and use the gradient descent algorithm to train the output layer weights. The proposed model is implemented on real smart meter data and simulation results show that better forecasting accuracy could be achieved by using the proposed model comparing with the conventional RBF neural network model based on K-Means (RBF-KM).","PeriodicalId":282352,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Communication Systems (ICCS)","volume":"184 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122932631","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An effective distributed, adaptive flow scheduling algorithm is needed to realize the full potential of the multiple parallel paths provided by such networks. The overall aim of this work is to design a load balancer that can maximize the aggregate network utilization. In this paper, the Distributed Flow-by-Flow Fair Routing (DFFR) algorithm is proposed for flow balancing in data center networks. It is a scalable, distributed, and adaptive algorithm designed for maximizing network resources. Our analysis shows that the algorithm has proven theoretical performance bounds, which gives a low variance for the aggregate bandwidth utilization. A simulation study was conducted to compare the performance of the DFFR algorithm with other load balancing algorithms. Simulation results reveal that the DFFR algorithm outperforms a static routing assignment protocol. It is also compared to Distributed Dynamic Flow Scheduling (DDFS), which is chosen because it is a distributed algorithm like DFFR. DFFR is shown to perform better for random traffic patterns than DDFS, but worse for patterns where hosts always send to the same receiver. The evaluation concludes that the DFFR is an effective load balancer for data center networks with random traffic patterns.","PeriodicalId":282352,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Communication Systems (ICCS)","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121338136","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Considering the special property of DF relay networks, where only the relays decoding the message from source correctly have to join in the forwarding phase, we let the relays decoding successfully perform distributed beamforming to transmit information signals and the left relays decoding in error transmit jamming signals to improve the system secrecy capacity. For this purpose, we design a CVX toolbox based bi-level optimization algorithm to search the optimal beamforming vector and jamming vector for the relays via the semi-definite relaxation (SDR). Finally, the simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms existing secrecy schemes in DF relay networks.","PeriodicalId":282352,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Communication Systems (ICCS)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126164485","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

And the base station (BS) with sufficient renewable energy can share its energy with the other one. Specifically, we study the scheme of resource allocation and energy management that minimize the sum-cost of the two systems. Under the constraints of the harvested energy of BSs and the target rates of the mobile terminals (MTs), a mixed integer programming problem is formulated. By using a suboptimal subcarrier assignment algorithm with low complexity, the strategy of power allocation, energy purchase and energy sharing is obtained based on the convex optimization theory. Numerical results demonstrate that the total energy consumption of the two systems can be decreased with the proposed resource allocation and energy management scheme.","PeriodicalId":282352,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Communication Systems (ICCS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129333286","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper focuses on completely irrepressible (CI) sequences, which can be employed to allow each user to have at least one successful packet transmission within each sequence period for a completely asynchronous channel. Previous numerical studies have shown by using carefully designed CI sequences, the average delay performance can be improved than using ALOHA-type schemes. To gain a unique insight into the characteristics of the protocol, we present an analytical model for the delay performance of CI sequences. The accuracy of our analytical model is verified via numerical results.","PeriodicalId":282352,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Communication Systems (ICCS)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130634193","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To analyze the effect of the mobility on the performance, we derive lower bounds on the capacity of the systems. With Jakes' model, the derived lower bounds depend on both the velocity and the channel state information (CSI). Numerical results reveal two factors that degrade the performance. One is the terminal mobility, and the other is the channel estimation error (tending to be more severe due to the high mobility). When CSI is perfect, the capacity changes very little with the increasing of mobility in the low signal to noise ratio (SNR) region, but has a significant loss in the high SNR region. When CSI is imperfect, improving the accuracy of channel estimation will increase the capacity significantly. We also design block Markov superposition transmission (BMST) codes for the OFDM systems in the high-mobility scenarios. Simulation results coincide with the capacity analysis.","PeriodicalId":282352,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Communication Systems (ICCS)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114315695","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The SBS with on-grid power is used to respond to user requests and keep itself working; the harvested energy is exploited for caching cooperation among SBSs. To stimulate the SBS with full use of harvested energy in every slot, a scheme is proposed to select the cooperating target and allocate the harvested energy. The problem of minimizing the system power consumption is formulated and a suboptimal algorithm is used to approximate its solution. According to the numerical results, the proposed scheme can save transmit power greatly compared with a no-caching cooperation scheme and performs much better than the arbitrary selection scheme.","PeriodicalId":282352,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Communication Systems (ICCS)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124103167","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The considered system model consists of two source nodes and a relay node. Two single-antenna source nodes receive information and energy simultaneously via power splitting (PS) from the signals sent by a multi-antenna relay node. Our objective is to maximize the weighted sum energy at the two source nodes subject to quality of service (QoS) constraints and the transmit power constraints. However, the joint optimization of the relay beamforming matrix, the source transmit power and PS ratio is intractable. To find a closed-form solution of the formulated problem, we decouple the primal problem into two subproblems. In the first problem, we intend to optimize the beamforming vectors for given transmit powers and PS ratio. In the second subproblem, we optimize the remaining parameters with obtained beamformers. It is worth noting that although the corresponding subproblem are nonconvex, the optimal solution of each subproblem can be found by using certain techniques. The iterative optimization algorithm finally converges. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed joint design.","PeriodicalId":282352,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE International Conference on Communication Systems (ICCS)","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127761394","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
