The system uses neural network for model estimation and classification of Normal and several heart diseases based on heart sounds. In classification, a spectrogram was applied to the modeled heart sounds for features extraction and selection. The features were fed to the FFNN and trained using Resilient Backpropagation (RPROP) algorithm. With optimized learning parameter of 0.07, the network gave best performance at 32-220-6. The accuracy of the network when validated with the diagnostic test was above 97% which suggests that the network performed well and was doing as gold standard. The classification of heart diseases was further improved to 100% when overall testing was performed.","PeriodicalId":282179,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 7th International Colloquium on Signal Processing and its Applications","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126735269","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aiming at the common architecture which can decode both of the two codes, this paper describes the method of decoding turbo codes with message passing algorithm which is conventionally used for LDPC codes. In this method, turbo codes are viewed as block codes and the sparse parity check matrices are constructed through Smith Decomposition or GBT (Generator matrix based transformation). In order to guarantee decoding performance, we propose the criterion of turbo codes with no 4-cycles, which is mathematically proved and demonstrated by the simulation results.","PeriodicalId":282179,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 7th International Colloquium on Signal Processing and its Applications","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122646503","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method used to remove the noise components is a combination of two methods: Wavelet de-noising and spectral subtraction. The idea is to apply the spectral subtraction to wavelet approximations and details coefficients. A new parameter for spectral subtraction in unvoiced speech frames is introduced and the existing power factor in spectral subtraction method is improved. Also, for reduction of musical noise, we propose to use iterative Wiener filtering. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed speech enhancement algorithm is very promising.","PeriodicalId":282179,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 7th International Colloquium on Signal Processing and its Applications","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124763848","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Steam temperature is one of the most significant parameters that can influence the composition of essential oil yield in terms of quality and quantity. Due to parameter variations and changes in operation conditions during distillation, a robust steam temperature controller becomes nontrivial to avoid the degradation of essential oil quality. Initially, the PRBS input is triggered to the system and output of steam temperature is modeled by auto regressive exogenous (ARX) model. The online parameter estimation is implemented using recursive least squares and integrated in MRAC scheme. The performance of MRAC is evaluated. The experimental result demonstrates an efficacy of MRAC applied in distillation process and also conform the stability to the system.","PeriodicalId":282179,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 7th International Colloquium on Signal Processing and its Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131365808","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research is intended to extract tree crowns and estimate its height by combining both spatial and spectral information from airborne LiDAR and digital aerial photo. Contouring techniqs were adopted in order to extract the tree crown information from digital aerial photo. LiDAR data was used to estimate tree height from Canopy Height Model (CHM). LiDAR data and digital aerial photo were acquired on the 20th September 2009 at Sungai Ayer Tawar plantation using Optech ALTM3070 and DCS digital camera. The results show that low statistical performance in estimating the tree height due to low density of LiDAR points and less of sampling data taken from field observations.","PeriodicalId":282179,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 7th International Colloquium on Signal Processing and its Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130718208","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, this situation may potentially impose security and privacy threats. We noted that previous RFID protocols provide solutions for security and privacy in silo and they usually focus more on security components as compared to privacy. We vide that the existing situation is not balanced and hence our approach in tackling it is unique because we propose an overall approach that considers security, trust and privacy (STP) together. We propose to use lightweight based encryption subsystem to handle security, trusted computing based subsystem to provide trust and integrity verifications and privacy enhanced system (anonymizer) to solve privacy issues for RFID system. This paper reviews previous works on RFID protocols and highlights the importance of RFID system with STP subsystems.","PeriodicalId":282179,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 7th International Colloquium on Signal Processing and its Applications","volume":"117 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134639496","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, the line tracking robot is a classic introductory robot design and needs minimal amount of material and cost. The aim of this project is to construct a robot that has capability to follow the white line placed on a horizontal smooth surface lighted by LED and the low cost light dependant resistor as the sensor. Rigorous analysis has been applied to determine the optimal configuration for the sensor on the mobile robot. Our findings show that angle of LDR of 30°, the distance between LDR and LED of 2.5cm and height of 2cm is the best configuration. The line tracking robot will detect the light intensity that is rebounded from the white color path.","PeriodicalId":282179,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 7th International Colloquium on Signal Processing and its Applications","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131970385","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

CABAC is a crucial part in H.264/AVC main profile that provides a great compression ratio at the expense of high computational complexity. Due to the data dependence between bit-wise processing, the throughput of the encoder is limited. Some techniques have been proposed in the latest encoder architecture designs to improve the speed to meet the need of QFHD or 3DHD applications. While for Super Hi-vision (4320p) case, a throughput of more than 1Gbps is required. While the current designs can only reach a throughput of around 660Mbps. As a result, frame parallelism is a usual but hardware costing way to solve the throughput gap. What's more, frame parallel will also cost frame delay problem, which is crucial in real-time system. This design tries to avoid the frame parallelism and save the power by encoding 4 bins per cycle using only one core, while working at a frequency of 264MHz. The technology used for synthesis is SMIC 90nm. Two main ideas are applied in this design to realize this high throughput.","PeriodicalId":282179,"journal":{"name":"2011 IEEE 7th International Colloquium on Signal Processing and its Applications","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-03-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116749768","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
