Universities are currently required to conduct self-assessments and improvements as university organizations. Yamaguchi University introduced Yamaguchi University Self-Assessment and Evaluation System (YUSE) before the incorporation of national universities, and the system has been in operation and under improvements for over ten years. The present paper reports improvements that have been made to the current self-assessment and evaluation system based on user requests. These improvements will provide useful information for improving evaluation systems at other universities. Moreover, it is possible for such improvements to be categorized into three frameworks that relate the systemic issues improved: system usability, links to other systems, and visualization functions (graphs) for analyses.","PeriodicalId":281712,"journal":{"name":"2017 6th IIAI International Congress on Advanced Applied Informatics (IIAI-AAI)","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126630020","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The solution was positively evaluated by the participants, but most of them indicated that it lacks support for laboratory activities. As it is well known that many of computer science subjects (e.g. Computer Networks, Information Security, Systems Administration, etc.) require a suitable and flexible environment where students can access a set of computers and network devices to successfully complete their hands-on activities. To achieve this criteria, we created a cloud-based virtual laboratory based on OpenStack cloud platform to facilitate access to virtual machine both locally and remotely. Cloud-based virtual labs bring a lot of advantages, such as increased manageability, scalability, high availability and flexibility, to name a few. This arrangement has been tested in a case-study exercise with a group of students as part of Computer Networks and System Administration courses at Kabul Polytechnic University in Afghanistan. To measure success, we introduced a level test to be completed by participants prior and after the experiment. As a result, the learners achieved an average of 17.1 % higher scores in the post level test after completing the practical exercises. Lastly, we distributed a questionnaire after the experiment and students provided positive feedback on the effectiveness and usefulness of the proposed solution.","PeriodicalId":281712,"journal":{"name":"2017 6th IIAI International Congress on Advanced Applied Informatics (IIAI-AAI)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116137507","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By the introduction of CAD software, most conceptual design can be implemented in the specific 3D view. To engaging studying, in this paper we design a novel teaching strategy that combines social activity and project-based learning as to develop news express in presentation. In the social activity, students are required to collect feedback and try to demonstrate to people online. In teaching project goal, learners work together and learn to establish big project as team work. In the final stage, each group should accomplish the news express design within 2 hours and publishing to social Web site. The proposed teaching strategy had been applied in real university course in two years. The empirical result showed that learners not only immersive in doing project, but also substantially improves the 3D modeling capability in course. The result of the satisfactory quiz shows that the teaching strategy is highly positive for learning.","PeriodicalId":281712,"journal":{"name":"2017 6th IIAI International Congress on Advanced Applied Informatics (IIAI-AAI)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122321774","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previous studies rarely found a linkage between management, human resource development policy, new markets and new products development, leaving unexplored the results of any effect between those variables. 460 subjects of Thai SMEs were tested for this relationship using structural equation modeling. The results show that management concepts of innovation do impact human resource development policy. In addition, the organizational innovation process is also influenced which consequently has an impact on both new markets and new products development. This study suggests that small and medium firms need to initiate and focus their policies on innovation development. Hence, the management of an organizational innovation process is appropriate for the creation of new markets and new product development.","PeriodicalId":281712,"journal":{"name":"2017 6th IIAI International Congress on Advanced Applied Informatics (IIAI-AAI)","volume":"137 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122435088","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, recent studies have found inconclusive results when type and format of the advance organizers were taken into account. This study investigated the impact of different formats of advance organizers (graphic with text explanation, voice narration, and concept map) on learners understanding of science concepts. A total of 136 high school students participated in this study. A factorial design was utilized for the experiment using format of advance organizers as the independent variable while learners achievement on retention and transfer test regarding the learning content as the dependent variables. The findings showed that using graphical advance organizers, especially the concept map, worked effectively in achieving high school students understanding of the learning content. The results showed that using concept map was likely to conceptually anchored viewers attention on key elements of reading content. When designing instructional materials, it is advised to take the advantage of graphical organizers to achieve understanding of abstract science concepts. Implications and suggestions for effective instructional design and for future studies are provided in this paper.","PeriodicalId":281712,"journal":{"name":"2017 6th IIAI International Congress on Advanced Applied Informatics (IIAI-AAI)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123002916","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, realizing local revitalization is of the utmost importance, and there are many countermeasures in place to guard against the effects of an aging society. In particular, tourism is one of the most effective countermeasures, and each region tries to introduce it with a combination of local resources. Although it is common knowledge that local revitalization has a positive effect in an affected area, it is difficult to maintain revitalization activities over the long term. Therefore, this paper discusses a framework for maintaining local revitalization through tourism. Moreover, tour planning is essential in order to stimulate tourism and to maintain a supply of sightseeing resources. Therefore, the requirements and system architecture for tour planning support are introduced as an example.","PeriodicalId":281712,"journal":{"name":"2017 6th IIAI International Congress on Advanced Applied Informatics (IIAI-AAI)","volume":"PC-23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126672980","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Various stakeholders are concerned in convention industry for the reason that it is an essential factor in promoting inbound tourism in Japan. Convention bureaus play an important role to attract convention business in Japan, so this study focuses on convention bureaus perception about destination characteristics and public relation activities and discusses the differences between non-experienced and experienced convention bureaus. The questionnaire was conducted at the 25th international Meetings Expo (IME 2015) held on December 9-10, 2015, at the Tokyo International Forum, Japan. In method, descriptive statistics of questionnaire items and binary logistic regression which examined the differences between experienced and non-experienced group were adopted. In descriptive statistics, the findings indicate that presence or absence of a structure for cooperation among convention bureaus, facility staff and hotel staff to attract international conventions showed an exclusively high mean score. In logistic regression, the experienced tend to have higher awareness of accommodation, price, cooperative structure, and unique culture than non-experienced.","PeriodicalId":281712,"journal":{"name":"2017 6th IIAI International Congress on Advanced Applied Informatics (IIAI-AAI)","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129342964","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It then performs the calculation and assessment of the protein structural fragment to identify the similarities in the local structure of the proteins and to estimate if these two proteins have the same functionality. During the process of calculation, a structure alignment was first used to perform rotation, panning, and super positioning of the two protein fragment groups, and calculate each coordinate in order to complete the graph. A minimum-spanning-tree algorithm was then used to determine whether the coordinates are suitable, and the unsuitable coordinates are deleted. At the end, the pair with the most similar structures in the fragment group was exported. The results of this study showed that the average accuracy of our testing data can be as high as 94.3%, and can be presented using a fully automated process. Users can easily identify similar fragments in local structures. In the future, we hope to conduct further studies on applications including identifying new effects or side effects of existing drugs.","PeriodicalId":281712,"journal":{"name":"2017 6th IIAI International Congress on Advanced Applied Informatics (IIAI-AAI)","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121157818","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In a face-to-face communication, estimation would be easier because of the facial expressions and other non-verbal information. However, in a text communication such as mail and generic social network service (SNS), we can only obtain text information. Furthermore, estimation would be more difficult than that in a face-to-face communication. In this paper, we investigate the estimation of the friendships between the users on Twitter, which is one of the most popular SNS, with only a single interaction; as opposed to a face-to-face communication where we can guess the others relation almost immediately. Then, the features to estimate the friendships are discussed. The difference between the estimated and actual friendships is also discussed.","PeriodicalId":281712,"journal":{"name":"2017 6th IIAI International Congress on Advanced Applied Informatics (IIAI-AAI)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114806209","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
