Evaluation and Improvement of Yamaguchi University Self-Assessment and Evaluation System

Abstract

University evaluation is mandated by the School Education Act and the National University Cooperation Act. Universities are currently required to conduct self-assessments and improvements as university organizations. Yamaguchi University introduced Yamaguchi University Self-Assessment and Evaluation System (YUSE) before the incorporation of national universities, and the system has been in operation and under improvements for over ten years. The present paper reports improvements that have been made to the current self-assessment and evaluation system based on user requests. These improvements will provide useful information for improving evaluation systems at other universities. Moreover, it is possible for such improvements to be categorized into three frameworks that relate the systemic issues improved: system usability, links to other systems, and visualization functions (graphs) for analyses.
