Although using wind energy as a renewable energy source has some benefits, such as higher performance over other renewable energy sources, it has opened new field power system protection for this power grid type. Wind power plants in a contingency situation such as short circuit fault in the power grid may disconnect from the power grid and make the situation worse for the dynamic stability of the power system.Low Voltage Ride-Through (LVRT) has proposed by Wind Energy Conversion Systems (WECS). A mismatch will be acquired during a voltage drop across the grid between the wind generator's active power and those delivered to the power grid. Constant speed wind generators are highly dependent on reactive power, so they require much reactive power in a short circuit failure; otherwise, they become unstable and must be disconnected from the power system. On the other hand, some proposed method to provide reactive power to wind generators might negatively affect distance protection, especially in the lines equipped by series capacitors. Besides, Proper protection of high voltage transmission lines equipped with series compensation has ignited some challenges for distance power system protection; these challenges are caused due to some factors such as the influence of the series capacitor on the fault ring and the variation of the impedance, the failure to detect the direction of the fault due to changes of angle and the measurement of phase voltage, transient fluctuations caused by low current errors as well as switching.On the other hand, the fault location in a transformer compensated transmission line is complicated by the series capacitor due to the MOV and complex transient conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate methods to improve transmission lines' distance protection (as the most common conservation in lines), and research has been done in this regard. In this paper, a proposed scheme based on phasor measurement data from PMU on both sides of the line this method calculate the percentage of compensation in real-time mode, and the setting of second and third relay zones will be minimized depending on the conditions for recovery and improper performance of distance protection. To assess the accuracy of the proposed method, IEEE 39-BUS is employed. Proper performance of protection areas obtained in fault conditions using this scheme indicates the accuracy of the proposed method all of the numeric calculation has been done in Digsilent Power factory software","PeriodicalId":281528,"journal":{"name":"7th Iran Wind Energy Conference (IWEC2021)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116105165","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The essential advantages of wind energy are that it is clean, low costly, and unlimited. The efficiency of wind power plants is an important issue. In this paper, the wind energy potential of provinces of the Marmara region in Turkey was evaluated by multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods. TOPSIS and PROMETHEE methods were used for analysis. The weights of the criteria determined for the decision model were taken equally. According to the analysis results, Balikesir and Çanakkale were determined as priority provinces in wind power plant potential, while Kocaeli and Sakarya were ranked last. Spearman's Correlation Coefficient determined the level and direction of the relationship between the rankings obtained from TOPSIS and the PROMETHEE method. It was concluded that the relationship between the obtained value of \"0.636\" and the rankings obtained from the methods was a \"positive\" and \"moderate\" relationship. In this context, it has been verified that two methods with different algorithm steps support each other.","PeriodicalId":281528,"journal":{"name":"7th Iran Wind Energy Conference (IWEC2021)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128359943","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, by integration of wind-based generation, the level of fault current is likely to be increased which can damage the wind generators, microgrid components, and upstream grids. Consequently, utilizing viable protecting structures might preserve wind generator structures and other sections of the electric system as well. In this paper, first, the issue of the fault current of wind generators is discussed, and then well-known solution for protecting wind generators against fault current will be classified based on the comprehensive review. Despite the great influence of dynamic characteristics on start-up and stability of these rotors, as well as working in areas subjected to highly turbulent atmospheric boundary layer, dynamic characteristics and unsteady wind condition were neglected in most of the previous research. In this study, the turbine start-up characteristics have been investigated numerically considering the dynamic characteristics of the traditional Savonius rotor and unsteady sinusoidal upstream flow, using user-defined functions in Fluent software. The simulation results are highly consistent with the existing experimental results and hence, relatively accurate prediction of the start-up behavior of the Savonius turbine can be achieved. According to the obtained results, increasing the mean velocity leads to an increase in the growth rate of tip speed ratio. In addition, reducing the period in the upstream, hastens the rotor acceleration process. Moreover, by increasing the tip speed ratio up to 0.7, an increase in the torque coefficient can be seen, which is followed by a decreasing trend with further increase in tip speed ratio.","PeriodicalId":281528,"journal":{"name":"7th Iran Wind Energy Conference (IWEC2021)","volume":"125 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122624000","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Today’s power networks are comprised of non-linear systems at great dimensions affected by low frequency oscillations. Such frequencies lead to the divergence of the system from balanced stability, and the limitation of the power system performance. To increase the level of damping, the stabilizers of power systems are applied. With the enlargement of power networks and the addition of wind and solar power plants, the change of dynamic behavior of the system has become possible. A system, which previously had a desirable performance by using a stabilizer, may lose its desirable function due to the new power plants. In this article, a four machine power system equipped with a stabilizer has been used and its performance was processed online. When the dynamic behavior change is created and its range of oscillation goes beyond a specific threshold, another stabilizer can be used to achieve a better performance by using existing online data. Moreover, in this article, non-local signals have also been used to exert stabilizers because over time, the number of connections in the power system increases, and local signals might not enough to achieve damping of oscillations of future power networks. The results of simulations show the increase of system damping and its higher resistance when the new stabilizer is used. Therefore, by using the results of this study, the oscillations of low frequencies can be examined in a large power network, and it can be modified if it is necessary.","PeriodicalId":281528,"journal":{"name":"7th Iran Wind Energy Conference (IWEC2021)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129588249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
