The NW of diameter 120-260 nm and length 5-15 mum were electrochemically grown in cylindrical pores of etched ion-track polycarbonate membranes. The FE properties of the Au NW were investigated by local FESM measurements with a lateral resolution of about 10 mum. These observations might reflect enhanced heating effects of longer and sharper NW and successive destruction of single nanowires in agglomerated clusters, which is also evident from I-V curves with multiple destruction branches appearing mainly for longer NW.","PeriodicalId":281199,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE 20th International Vacuum Nanoelectronics Conference","volume":"140 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-07-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132833876","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Electron field emission characterisation was made as a function of nanotube mass fraction using large area phosphor coated anode. It is concluded that emission occurs at front surface under the action of applied field. As the mass fraction of nanotubes is increased, a greater density of nanotube-nanotube contacts is made, increasing the overall charge transport of carriers via FIT.
