The rs7566605 polymorphism in the INSIG-2 gene is reported to be associated with the development of obesity. This polymorphism occurs when there is a change in the nitrogenous base guanine (G) for cytosine (C) resulting in two possible mutant genotypes: CC and CG. The wild genotype is represented by GG. Many authors reported the association between this polymorphism with anthropometrical changes, but there is no consensus regarding this issue. Objective: to evaluate the frequency of rs7566605 polymorphism and its association with obesity markers in populations from different geographical areas. Method: systematic review using PubMed and following the PRISMA Guidelines. Results: there was a great variability in terms of sample size, areas, bias and phenotypic characteristics. Although 38 biological traits were evaluated, the mutation was associated with only three of them (BMI, Waist-Hip Ratio, HbA1c). The highest CC frequency was found among obese Malays (21%), and the lowest among overweight Quilombo people (3%). The highest CG frequency was found in non-obese Malays (51%), while the lowest was reported among overweight Quilombo people (22%). Also, Quilombo people reported the highest frequency of the GG phenotype (75%), while the lowest frequency was found in non-obese Malays (32%). Conclusion: The polymorphism was associated with only three obesity markers. There were specific patterns of genotypic frequency among populations belonging to similar geographical areas and/or ancestry. More research into the genetic factors related to obesity markers is needed.","PeriodicalId":280405,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Medicine and Human Health","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-07-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128957197","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It’s secreted from pituitary cells as heterodimers composed of an alpha and a beta- subunit. The thyrotrophic cells that secrete TSH are preferentially located in the anteromedial and anterolateral portions of the pituitary. Objective: We performed a phylogenetic analysis of the TSH, and phylogram of the maximum likelihood relations between TSH coding sequences of five representative species. Methods: We extracted the available DNA and protein sequences for TSH from the NCBI databank. Searched for regions presenting sequence similarities to the constituent domains of TSH – alpha and beta-subunits - with the Blastall command ftp://ftp.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/blast/db/ website, pairs of sequences were compared on the basis of their global alignment with the Myers & Millers algorithm manpages.ubuntu. com/manpages/karmic/man1, and the phylogenetic reconstructions were performed online by using a maximum likelihood method with PhyMyL 3.0 software on the website file (http://www.phylogeny.fr/). Results: The comparison of the phylogenetic trees that we obtained compared with those studies previously published revealed similar subclusters with high protein homology. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that human TSH is structurally related to TSH of the species analysed, Bos taurus, Mus musculus, Canis lupus familiaris, and Cyprinus carpio, respectively.","PeriodicalId":280405,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Medicine and Human Health","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130617161","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objective: The purpose of this study is to explore the possible similarity between the AA sequences of human glutamic acid decarboxylase - 65 kDa isoform (GAD65) human insulin, and proteins of H1N1 influenza (strain (A/California/7/2009(H1N1)), using databanks of proteins and immunogenic peptides to explain the development of T1DM. Methods: AA sequences of the A/California/7/2009(H1N1) strain, GAD65 and human insulin, available in the NCBI (National Center for Biotechnology Information) database were compared using the Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) software. Results: Similarities were found among the A/California/7/2009(H1N1) strain, GAD and the human insulin. The similarities between Influenza A virus (A/California/7/2009(H1N1)) and the GAD65 ranged from 15.0 % to 56.0%, with statistical significance (P 0.006 and P 0.017). The similarities between the Influenza A virus (A/California/7/2009(H1N1)) and insulin ranged from 38.0 % to 45.0%, but without statistical significance. Conclusion: Bioinformatics data suggest a possible pathogenic link between A/California/7/2009(H1N1) and T1DM. Through molecular mimicry is has been observed that sequences similarity between viral Polyprotein and self-proteins could induce a crossover immune response to self-antigens, with a breakdown of self-tolerance, resulting in autoimmune disease.","PeriodicalId":280405,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Medicine and Human Health","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-03-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129280247","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Similar to this condition in pancreas, any excessive lipidic deposition in the liver tissue are referred to as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Objective: The objective of this study was to explore associations between PS and the NAFLD grade, as evaluated by ultrasonography. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. Diagnosis of the PS and NAFLD was based on ultrasound findings, and 576 ultrasonography exams were evaluated. The chi-square test was used for evaluation of the relationship between PS and NAFLD. Results: A total of 576 individuals were included, 217 (or 37.7%) were male and 359 (or 62.3%) were female. The median age of the patients was 47.04 (11.8) years-old (mean ± standard error). Among them, 243 were diagnosed with PS and 245 were diagnosed with NAFLD according to the trans-abdominal ultrasound findings. There was an association between male sex and PS (P 0.012), and between female sex and NAFLD (P 0.0001). As compared to the normal group, the PS and NAFLD group was characterized by a significantly higher median age. There was also a statistically significant association between the degree of PS and the degree of NAFLD, with the following characteristics: mild PS and mild NAFLD (P 0.0001), moderate PS and moderate and severe NAFLD (P 0.0001) and between severe PS and moderate and severe NAFLD (P 0.0001). Conclusion: Our findings demonstrated that fat accumulation in pancreas is significantly correlated to NAFLD. It was also shown that the ultrasound is very resourceful when it comes evaluation of fat grade.","PeriodicalId":280405,"journal":{"name":"Brazilian Journal of Medicine and Human Health","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130161868","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
