The transition to active distribution networks (ADNs) represents a significant technological advancement in this ever-evolving context. Accurate models for each device present in ADNs are crucial for adequately representing their dynamics; however, load modeling poses challenges due to the vast diversity of load components, variations over time, and dependence on several factors. Despite these challenges, understanding load behavior is fundamental for efficient planning and operation of ADNs. Therefore, precise load models are indispensable for conducting preventive and forensic studies. This paper analyzes various scientific documents from the most relevant scientific databases, explicitly focusing on the challenge of measurement-based load modeling in ADNs. The main contribution of this document lies in enhancing the representation and understanding of loads in ADNs through the analysis of current approaches, challenges, and measurement-based modeling strategies. Additionally, it serves as a reference for future research in the field of load modeling.","PeriodicalId":278060,"journal":{"name":"Revista UIS Ingenierías","volume":"15 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139273967","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This shift has presented new operational challenges for these networks. One such challenge involves determining the ideal sizing of these resources and the hosting capacity of the distribution networks to maximize their potential to enhance technical parameters within the system. This article proposes strategies to optimize the generation capacity and the selection of nodes in Colombian distribution networks, prioritizing nodes of lower voltage to improve reliability and continuity of supply. This transition necessitates a regulatory framework that facilitates the entry of new players and fosters the development of appealing business models for investors. Consequently, the energy transition fuels the widespread adoption of distributed energy resources, igniting the creation of fresh markets and captivating business opportunities. This study thoroughly examines the Colombian regulatory landscape, with a specific focus on exploring the new business prospects that arise from the integration of energy storage systems as distributed energy resources. Additionally, the paper analyzes energy arbitration through this technology, assessing five scenarios through economic evaluation using Net Present Value (NPV) and Internal Rate of Return (IRR). The findings indicate that the current model, which entails purchasing and selling energy in the energy exchange, is unsustainable without supplementary measures like self-consumption or regulatory incentives.","PeriodicalId":278060,"journal":{"name":"Revista UIS Ingenierías","volume":"56 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139282149","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the electromagnetic coupling between the systems may cause the appearance of dangerous conditions for people due to exposure to high touch voltages, as well as for pipelines, caused by the activation of the AC corrosion phenomenon. These dangerous conditions require that during design the possible risks are assessed, and the corresponding mitigation actions are determined. This paper presents a simplified methodology for risk assessment using a practical approach and analytical expressions that can be easily implemented from information known while designing. Likewise, results are included for a case study that allow validating the proposed methodology and demonstrating the importance of this type of analysis.","PeriodicalId":278060,"journal":{"name":"Revista UIS Ingenierías","volume":"16 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135683970","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Las cianobacterias están formadas por un amplio número de géneros y especies, con diversos mecanismos de intoxicación; por lo que constituyen un grave problema ambiental con serias repercusiones en la salud de los seres vivos y del hombre. Adicionalmente, la alta producción de cianotoxinas asociada a la presencia de cianobacterias ha crecido enormemente en frecuencia y extensión en todo el mundo, lo cual aumenta la preocupación por parte de las autoridades y los prestadores de servicios públicos. Por otro lado, es importante señalar que los procesos convencionales con los que operan las instalaciones de tratamiento de agua son ineficientes para su eliminación y/o degradación dado que las cianotoxinas son solubles en agua y persistentes. En este sentido, se hace necesaria la aplicación de tecnologías alternativas a los sistemas de tratamiento tradicionales de potabilización con el fin de obtener un agua de calidad apta para el consumo humano. En el presente trabajo, se describe el uso de ultrasonido en el tratamiento de aguas contaminadas con cianobacterias y cianotoxinas, haciendo especial hincapié en la influencia de la variación de parámetros significativos que intervienen en la eficiencia de eliminación e inactivación de las cianobacterias, y la degradación de sus toxinas a través del proceso de sonicación. Con ello, se pretender posicionar el ultrasonido de baja frecuencia como tecnología de oxidación avanzada que permita controlar la proliferación de las cianobacterias y sus toxinas, y evitar la reducción de la calidad de los cuerpos de agua que abastecen las plantas de producción de agua potable.","PeriodicalId":278060,"journal":{"name":"Revista UIS Ingenierías","volume":"16 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135683971","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two types of algorithms are evaluated and compared: centralized and decentralized control. The former is based on real-time estimation of the demand and subsequent optimization. The latter is based on the Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM). Both algorithms were evaluated on an IoT platform consisting of agents implemented on a series of small single-board computers based on Raspberry Pi technology, connected to a centralized computer that emulates the grid. This platform allows realistic evaluation of the algorithms, considering the effects of communication. The main grid considers power losses and the dynamics of inverter-based renewable resources using quasi-dynamic simulation. This type of simulation can be considered real-time for this application. The platform is demonstrated to be flexible and provides a real view of the practical problems that aggregators may face when implementing them in a power distribution network.","PeriodicalId":278060,"journal":{"name":"Revista UIS Ingenierías","volume":"34 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139298146","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The master stage defines the load connections per node using a discrete codification, while the slave stage evaluates each load configuration provided by the master stage via a three-phase power flow. For the master stage, the salp swarm algorithm (SSA) was selected, which is an efficient bio-inspired technique to deal with continuous and discrete nonlinear optimization problems. The slave stage employed the matricial backward/forward power flow method for three-phase asymmetric networks. Numerical simulations in IEEE test feeders composed of 8, 25, and 37 nodes confirm the effectiveness of the SSA approach in finding efficient solutions regarding the expected grid power losses after optimal load phase-swapping. Numerical comparisons with the vortex search algorithm, the Chu & Beasley genetic algorithm, and the crow search algorithm demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology in dealing with the studied problem. All numerical validations were carried out in the MATLAB programming environment.","PeriodicalId":278060,"journal":{"name":"Revista UIS Ingenierías","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135928987","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
