On the other hand, these new publication methods appear to be very attractive for increasing business opportunities. The problem of electronic management of copyright has thus become very important and many projects are being carried out worldwide to deal with it. The aim of this paper is to survey the main concepts which electronic copyright management systems should be based on. In particular the requirements, the players and the key technologies are presented.","PeriodicalId":276867,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. Main focus is on how to handle semantic heterogeneity of data in different sources to support integration and query processing activities. In both cases, techniques to assess similarity between schema elements of different data sources are required, to support the derivation of a reconciled representation at the global level and similarity-based search over different sources. In this paper we introduce an approach based on the Markov random field theory for similarity-based matching of database schemas.","PeriodicalId":276867,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. The ability to characterize a continuous field as a data type including related operations as well as estimation methods and the representation of the sampling points, facilitates the design and the use of this kind of data. However, the possibility to design and manipulate continuous fields is not enough to obtain a powerful tool, aspects related to the visualization of such data have to be also defined in order to realize spatial analysis. In this paper we present a flexible architecture to visualize data from continuous fields. Such architecture has been developed under the object-oriented paradigm, and the goal is to obtain a mechanism to allow the specification and evolution of the visual aspects independently of the implementation.","PeriodicalId":276867,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. Their equivalent in our networked world are catalogue systems which facilitate search and retrieval especially on the Web. We explore the requirements and their technical solutions to support search and retrieval according to multiple dimensions in Web based catalogue systems. We show how components that address individual dimensions can also be combined to tackle multidimensional queries. Several European environmental catalogue systems that we have been involved in are used as examples to illustrate the approach which can easily be transferred to further application e.g., e-commerce.","PeriodicalId":276867,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. We concentrate on the negotiation phase during the market transaction, as current electronic procurement systems do not support this phase appropriately. First, we describe generic market structures from a microeconomic point of view to provide context. Based on this classification we focus on heterogeneous monopsonies, a structure which is quite common in corporate procurement. As negotiation on multiple attributes of a deal is crucial in these markets, we introduce multi-attribute auctions as a resource allocation mechanism for heterogeneous monopsonies. Then we describe design and implementation of the main components of a brokerage service for multi-attribute auctions.","PeriodicalId":276867,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. Access to information in this net-like perspective, is diffused; the user is immersed, so to speak, in a rich and disordered mass of data which spreads all over the globe. The vision of centralised databases, with their undisputed advantages, is joined by a broader vision of information which is distributed, dislocated on several points of the Net. It is necessary to make use of tools such as guides, specific search engines and intelligent agents which enable the user to determine his bearings and obtain pertinent information. On these premises, after taking an overview of Italian legal information online, the article throws light on the need to use specific mechanisms enabling the user to efficiently retrieve information, pointing out the solutions possible at present. It then describes the operational contribution proposed by the Istituto per la Documentazione Giuridica as a first step towards retrieving law on the Internet. Then prospects are examined and ideas for reflection are solicited, in the hope of pooling ideas, experiences and efforts to attain satisfactory and concretely practical solutions.","PeriodicalId":276867,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. Our approach stems from two separate lines of research: the general studies on meta-level operators on logic programs introduced by Brogi et al. (1993, 1994) and temporal annotated constraint logic programming (TACLP) defined by Fruhwirth (1996). We propose a language MuTACLP that integrates the above mentioned approaches. Atoms are annotated with temporal information and such annotations are managed via a constraint theory as in TACLP. Mechanisms for structuring programs and combining separate knowledge bases are provided through meta-level operators. A top-down semantics of MuTACLP is given by exploiting meta-logic.","PeriodicalId":276867,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. Tenth International Workshop on Database and Expert Systems Applications.
