The scheme is based on the standard slotted Aloha protocol; but if a collision happens, the colliding and thus corrupted packets is shrinked in size for retransmissions. The size shrinking can be achieved using the widely available multirate scalable source coding techniques. The channel slot splits into minislots and the shrinked packets are transmitted at one randomly chosen minislot. This dual-rate scheme allows significantly higher packet throughput while keeping a decent bit throughput, which is proved both analytically and numerically in this paper.","PeriodicalId":273666,"journal":{"name":"IEEE 6th Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications, 2005.","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127212670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we propose a low complexity adaptive FDFR code for closed loop multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems. We show that with only channel singular vector knowledge at the transmitter, the open loop FDFR code can be adapted to the channel while maintaining the special layer structure of the code at the receiver. That special layer structure enables us to decouple the joint detection into optimal, but separate, decoding of each of the different layers which reduces the complexity exponent. The proposed low complexity adaptive scheme maintains the full diversity order. To fully exploit channel knowledge and improve the performance, adaptive power loading is also incorporated with the information of the singular values of the channel. The optimal loading scheme is derived from the upper bound of the symbol vector error rate, and the loading coefficients can be seen as match filtering to the singular values of the channel. The proposed scheme can also be implemented by spatial multiplexing with adaptive linear precoding.","PeriodicalId":273666,"journal":{"name":"IEEE 6th Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications, 2005.","volume":"2007 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127306908","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This problem causes the overall interference to be a limiting factor, especially when high symbol rate signaling is considered. In order to resolve this problem the literature has proposed many code management techniques, based essentially on code sharing mechanisms among the active users in the system. In this paper we propose a simpler method for the performance optimization of the multi-code DS-CDMA communication systems, based on the design of the channelization sequences used in the system. The optimal channelization sequences are implemented by means of chaotic piece wise linear Markov (PLM) sequences.","PeriodicalId":273666,"journal":{"name":"IEEE 6th Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications, 2005.","volume":"10 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133003785","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Severe multipath dispersion, represented by a long channel impulse response between each polarization state and receive sensor, makes impossible the direct application of trellis-based turbo equalizers. For this reason, we propose a computationally efficient turbo receiver that employs a soft-information aided MMSE space-time equalizer at its front-end for each polarization direction, because the dual-polarization modulator takes the outputs of a turbo encoder, the space-time MMSE equalizer is coupled with a turbo decoder at its back-end. Therefore the proposed receiver performs a doubly-iterative operation: an outer equalization iteration for each polarization signal and an inner decoding iteration within each outer loop.","PeriodicalId":273666,"journal":{"name":"IEEE 6th Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications, 2005.","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132267805","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our contributions are two-fold. First, we derive a family of decentralized consensus algorithms for minimizing a sum of convex functions, /spl Sigma//sub i=1//sup N/f/sub i/(x), where each function f/sub i/ only depends on information at one node in the network. Computing the consensus average is a special case in this setting. Then, we construct a modified algorithm which is resilient in situations where the channels between nodes act as binary erasure channels. The flexibility and efficacy of our approach is demonstrated through an application of robust estimation.","PeriodicalId":273666,"journal":{"name":"IEEE 6th Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications, 2005.","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126849556","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The basic cable model is suitable for computing channel response and common mode currents in simple topologies using matrix or SPICE circuit simulation. The higher level companion model incorporates ground bonding at the service panel and readily facilitates analysis of complex network topologies using transmission-matrix methods. Assuming amplify-and-relay local processing, the fusion performance is derived in closed-form under both Bayesian and Neyman-Pearson optimality, in the case of conditionally independent signal samples. An important observation is that the average fusion probability of error does not improve monotonically with the number of sensors unlike in the case of deterministic signal detection reported in Chamberland, J et al., (2004). In particular, there is an optimal number of sensors that minimizes the probability of error, which depends on both observation signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) as well channel SNR.","PeriodicalId":273666,"journal":{"name":"IEEE 6th Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications, 2005.","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122630755","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
