Sharif et al., (2005). In this paper, we study the generalization of this scheme to wideband broadcast channels. By using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing, an L-tap wideband channel can be decomposed to N parallel narrowband channels, where N is larger than L. Neighboring subchannels are therefore highly correlated, and it is intuitive to say that each group of neighboring subchannels (forming a cluster) can be characterized by one channel quality. We show in this paper that users need only feedback the best signal-to-noise-plus-interference ratio at the center of each cluster. Our results indicate that for cluster size of order N/L/spl radic/K, where K is the number of users, this feedback scheme maintains the same throughput scaling as when full CSI is known. Simulation results show that larger cluster sizes (N/2L) can also be implemented for a small throughput hit.","PeriodicalId":273666,"journal":{"name":"IEEE 6th Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications, 2005.","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130052578","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Multiple nodes volunteer as relays to facilitate the communication. All nodes have low mobility and the fading channel is essentially constant over the latency time scale of interest (block fading). Conventional adaptive scheduling techniques are either unfair or inefficient in this context. In A. Wittneben et al. (2004) we proposed a scheduling scheme which does not compromise the quality of service of individual source/destination links (fairness) if the number of relay nodes is sufficiently high. In this paper we propose a simple extension to our scheduling scheme which guarantees short-term temporal fairness among the individual links in the network, while achieving considerable multi-user diversity gains.","PeriodicalId":273666,"journal":{"name":"IEEE 6th Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications, 2005.","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130108560","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, prior works have ignored the rate overhead associated with feedback of MIMO BC channel state information (CSI), which is roughly K times larger than single-user MIMO CSI (i.e., it is O(tr) where r=/spl Sigma//sub k=1//sup K/r/sub k/ and r/sub k/ is the number of antennas at the kth MS). Considering the amount of feedback signaling, quantization is a necessity for effective feedback transmission as a form of partial CSI. In this paper, we propose the greedy multi-channel selection diversity (greedy MCSD) scheme bases on block MMSE QR decomposition with dirty paper coding (block MMSE-DP), where partial CSI is almost sufficient. The sum-rate performance of our novel scheme approaches extremely close to the sum capacity of MIMO BC as the number of users increases, whereas the feedback overhead is reduced by a factor of 2t/sup 3//L(t/sup 2/-t), in which L is the number of active channel vectors. Simulation results validate the expectation from the analysis.","PeriodicalId":273666,"journal":{"name":"IEEE 6th Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications, 2005.","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133924105","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We consider a system where on the transmit side a precoder is employed to achieve maximum diversity. Along with an FFT decoder on the receive side, the resulting channel resembles an FIR filter on both matrix and scalar-level. We propose therefore a decision feedback equalizer (DFE), which bears a similar FIR structure as the channel. The equalizer taps can either be computed based on the channel knowledge, or adaptively estimated with the assistance of pilots. Simulations show that the proposed equalizer yields a satisfactory performance at a low hardware cost.","PeriodicalId":273666,"journal":{"name":"IEEE 6th Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications, 2005.","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132689894","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite its simplicity, it represents a very rich information-theoretic problem since it belongs to the very restricted class of non-degraded broadcast channels for which the whole capacity region has been fully characterized. In the past few years an impressive amount of exciting results in information theory, signal processing and channel coding have been generated, driven by the thorough investigation of the MIMO Gaussian Broadcast Channel (MIMO-GBC) model. Remarkably, its capacity region is achieved by a mix of \"traditional\" signal processing approaches suitably extended and reviewed: namely, beamforming and modulo pre-coding. As a side-effect of this investigation, beamforming and modulo pre-coding have enjoyed a whole fresh look and greatly renewed interest in current research. In this talk we shortly overview the main information-theoretic results about the MIMO-GBC, and their implications in terms of signal-processing and channel coding. Also, we shall give an overview of some practical proposals to the downlink transmission with multiple antennas and comment about recent results on suboptimal systems approaching the MIMO-GBC capacity limits in certain regimes.","PeriodicalId":273666,"journal":{"name":"IEEE 6th Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications, 2005.","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-06-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114508661","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
