The concept of reconfigurable interoperability defines mechanisms for coexistence of the wireless networks and intelligent management and reconfiguration within such systems. This paper elaborates the design of reconfigurable interoperable wireless communication system (RIWCoS). It focuses on the reconfiguration strategy in the system in which the interoperability of the technologies is accomplished according to IEEE 802.21 standard. The reconfiguration in the system is done with implementation of distributed Resource Management (RM) modules. The terminal user RM module is developed and implemented in a simulation environment for testing and performance evaluation. In addition, the paper presents a concept for implementation of the resource management functionalities in real scenarios relying on the commands and functions from NDIS.","PeriodicalId":273041,"journal":{"name":"2009 2nd International Symposium on Applied Sciences in Biomedical and Communication Technologies","volume":"287 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121428460","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

CWC has done a set of experimental UWB on-body channel modeling independently of the measurements that are behind the IEEE model. Being statistically more reliable, CWC's results correspond with the models presented by the IEEE806.15.6 task group. Different scenarios for the WBAN link setups have been considered in both campaigns.","PeriodicalId":273041,"journal":{"name":"2009 2nd International Symposium on Applied Sciences in Biomedical and Communication Technologies","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122563941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The algorithms are based on the rank reduction paradigm with emphasis on signal subspace techniques. The general principle of rank reduction for signal synthesis modeling and signal whitening has been treated. In this very application where the method of rank reduction was applied to the electrodynamically weighing system, the order of the system was known to be two. We also knew the source(s) of the different heterogeneous inputs. Thus, the prior knowledge which is subject to the optimal rank of the objective function was known beforehand and so it was incorporated into the model. From this application specific perspective, we showed that if we are able to incorporate a good knowledge about the optimal rank into the overall system model, the signal estimate obtained can outperform the general principle of rank reduction which is based on the trade off between the model bias and model variance. On the other hand, if the rank was unknown, we might have had the difficulty of choosing the best signal estimate since the signal estimate obtained from the signal synthesis modeling is very different from signal estimate obtained from the model based on signal whitening. The addition of prior knowledge into the model of rank reduction algorithms can improve upon the performance in terms of both accuracy and speed since the computational resource(s) that is spent in the determination of the rank may also be reduced.","PeriodicalId":273041,"journal":{"name":"2009 2nd International Symposium on Applied Sciences in Biomedical and Communication Technologies","volume":"102 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128131285","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We emphasized on the Tikhonov's functional form of regularization from both numerical and Statistical methods viewpoints. We further extended the concept of regularization to the Bayesian methods framework. The Bayesian paradigm provided a general unified framework to the ill-posed inverse problem. Due to the computational complexity in estimating the parameters of the Bayesian model, the variational methods approach was used as an alternative. The problem of parameter estimation in the Bayesian framework was reduced to an optimization problem through the variational methods approach. In effect, we showed that the optimum of the Bayesian unified approach for the ill-posed inverse problem corresponds to the optimum of the variational methods approach.","PeriodicalId":273041,"journal":{"name":"2009 2nd International Symposium on Applied Sciences in Biomedical and Communication Technologies","volume":"135 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133244894","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

ToA (Time of Arrival) or TDoA (Time Difference of Arrival) of ranging frame are widely used because ToA and TDoA provide high accuracy due to the high time resolution with high bandwidth of IR-UWB (Impulse Radio - UWB) signal. HDR-UWB (High Data Rate -UWB) uses MB-OFDM (Multi Band - Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) to transmit signals, which can reach a data rate of 200 Mbit/s. In this paper a Java implementation of an active LT (Localization and Tracking) method based on a HDR-UWB platform is investigated. The hardware is composed of three UWB anchors, one UWB tag and one UWB location coordinator, which is connected to a PC (Personal Computer) or a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant). The Java program, which is hosted on the PC or PDA, is used to instruct the UWB coordinator to send and receive the UWB ranging frame and localize the tag. ToA is used as a ranging parameter in this work to measure the distance between the used UWB anchors and the UWB tag. The most important aspect is to reduce the jitter of ToA caused by CPU processing and the clock drift between UWB anchors and UWB tag. In this paper a 3-way ranging mechanism to minimize the clock drift is deployed. In addition the use of the JPCAP (Java Package for CAPturing) library in Java reduces the jitter of the ToA.","PeriodicalId":273041,"journal":{"name":"2009 2nd International Symposium on Applied Sciences in Biomedical and Communication Technologies","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131450133","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
