Industry 4.0 and IoT paradigms require future information engineers to be able to use enabling technologies not only for the automation of measurements, but also for their remote management. For this purpose, a solution is proposed that makes the students an active part in the process of realization of the remote laboratory. An architecture involving typical laboratory instruments, introduced during measurement courses, and a server to allow remote access to laboratory equipment is implemented. The realization of the software architecture, however, is left to the students who, under teacher’s guide, learn how to use the tools and programming environments to build up remote measurement stations.","PeriodicalId":272577,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE International Symposium on Measurements & Networking (M&N)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126375278","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The assessment of the patient’s postural stability through clinical maneuvers is performed at discrete times at more or less long intervals. A continuous monitoring of the patient’s postural stability while performing the daily activities would be of strategic interest for the doctors to gain continuous information on the user pathology or its progression. This paper introduces a wearable device designed to be used in the context of a multiuser multisensor wireless network and aimed at the continuous monitoring of the user’s postural sway.The paper mainly focuses on the architecture of the proposed solution and the methodology developed for the extraction of features, which enable the investigation on the user postural behavior. A first experimental assessment has been performed and results have demonstrated good performances of the developed signals processing.","PeriodicalId":272577,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE International Symposium on Measurements & Networking (M&N)","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121350798","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The detection mechanism is to track the resonant behavior of an antenna coupled to an interdigitated capacitor (IDC) on which a sensing material is deposited. When the target gas is adsorbed on the material surface, the effective permittivity changes and a variation in the antenna resonant frequency is observed. In order to avoid compromising either the antenna performance or the sensor performance after deposition of the sensing material, the coupling between the patch radiator and the IDC should be weak. For this reason, an aperture coupled patch (ACP) antenna weakly coupled to an IDC is employed. In this paper, the authors describe the ACP antenna design and its integration with an IDC, its fabrication and testing.","PeriodicalId":272577,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE International Symposium on Measurements & Networking (M&N)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127571571","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, this yield new issues in the domain of measurements and networking: it adds a dimension in the measurement domain, namely that of the computation for some tasks. We discuss MECANO, an architecture that integrates application measurement with network measurement to optimize the placement of workloads in the network. We have implemented an initial proof of concept of this architecture and validated its performance in our testbed. In particular, keeping track at the network layer of the location of running instances of a specific function can significantly speed up the completion time for a specific client request.","PeriodicalId":272577,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE International Symposium on Measurements & Networking (M&N)","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117169051","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Their ability to handle vehicles communication through broadcasting and to increase traffic configuration awareness makes them a powerful means to achieve road security. Smart and compact representation of VANETs is then needed in order to collect the most useful information and to reach as much expressiveness as possible. Starting from a meaningful signal-based representation, our goal in this paper is to find affinities between different vehicular networks by identifying similarities between the corresponding waves. To this aim, we detect some parameters characterizing the signal and combine them with specific alignment techniques to obtain a similarity measure. We also experiment our approach by comparing the results against known signal similarity methodologies, such as the Dynamic Time Warping.","PeriodicalId":272577,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE International Symposium on Measurements & Networking (M&N)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126031696","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the development of wearable smart devices, we have come up with a more effective solution to this problem. A posture reminding system designed with two kinds of sensors and processor Arduino is introduced in this paper. We detect attitude angle and distance from torso to desk using two sensors and send the data to a microprocessor. Then by using Kalman filtering algorithm, we realize the data fusion analysis. To make our device smarter, we apply Genetic Algorithm-Back Propagation neural network for posture classification which shows a higher accuracy compared to traditional classification algorithms. Trained by hundreds of sets of data, the accuracy of our system has reached 99.58% which shows this classification scheme is very effective.","PeriodicalId":272577,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE International Symposium on Measurements & Networking (M&N)","volume":"114 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134448024","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fault detection and localization methods are often based on reflectometry techniques but they need the implementation of dedicated devices. Furthermore, since they often use a wide frequency band, problems related to their electromagnetic compatibility with the environment may occur. If a power line communication is already implemented in the network, the objective of this paper is to study the proof of concept of a fault detection only based on the statistical properties of the received signals. Even without precise information on fault location, results of this approach could be interesting to decide to carry out a maintenance operation.","PeriodicalId":272577,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE International Symposium on Measurements & Networking (M&N)","volume":"194 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134529255","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
