This discourse reexamined concept and theory of political development particularly the models advanced by Almond and Powell and Lucian Pye. Beside its critique, this paper argued that the perspectives advanced remain empirically plausible to the crises and prospects of Nigerian political development. In reference to the methodology, the design is qualitative exploring the import of documentary sources of data collection and textual method of analysis. The discourse also advanced perspectives in modern view of political development and concludes by illuminating the limitations of Modernization theory amid the significance of models of political development to intractable challenges of governance and politics.","PeriodicalId":266840,"journal":{"name":"NG-Journal of Social Development","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125945709","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, implicated in the lockdown protocols has also been “irreparable damage” on the people, and their socio-economic activities; unleashing twin problems of deprivation and anxiety, for people in Sub-Sahara Africa (SSA). The paper takes on a gender lens to analyze and provide a critical understanding of current dimensions and implications of COVID-19 pandemic, now referred to as “shadow pandemic”, as it exacerbates existing poverty and inequalities, on the lived experiences and livelihood of a particular category of Nigerian population, women and the vulnerable. It evaluates the current policy response, encapsulated in social protections and other policy intervention programs of public authorities in Nigeria, in mitigating the impact of the pandemic and its “shadow underbelly”. Evidence continue to show the “residualist” dimensions of social protection programs, even in the context of post COVID-19 pandemic, not only as it demonstrates a “gender tip” to quality of life and livelihood for women, but more significantly, as it once again illustrates the minimalist dimensions of neo-liberal framing of social protection architecture in Sub-Sahara","PeriodicalId":266840,"journal":{"name":"NG-Journal of Social Development","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121209379","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The independent variable is human capital efficiency, while the dependent variables are, net profit after tax margin, gross profit margin and profit before tax margin. The researcher employed earnings before interest and tax margin to control the model which is in line with related extant literature. Ex-post facto research design was along with sample size of sixteen (16) out of twenty-five (25) quoted service firms in Nigeria Stock Exchange. The data for the study was sourced from the Nigerian Stock Exchange Fact Books and related companies’ Annual Financial Reports for the periods covered. Specifically, the author conducts pre regression analysis which includes descriptive statistics, correlation matrix, and normality of residua analysis. Basically, the Panel Ordinary Least Square Regression analysis was first conducted, and several diagnostic tests were carried out to check if it violates the basic Gauss Markov Theorem and assumptions. These post regression test include homoscedasticity and multicollinearity tests. A critical examination of all the diagnostic test revealed that the models failed the homoskedasticity assumption of the OLS estimates and thus, the researcher adopted the Robust Standard Error technique to correct for this problem. Findings from the robust standard error estimator reveals that: Human capital efficiency has a negative insignificant effect on net profit after tax margin and positive significant effect on gross profit margin. On profit before interest and tax margin, human capital efficiency has a positive insignificant effect. It was therefore, recommended that service firms will achieve high performance relating to gross profit margin if they continuously train and retrain their staff to acquire cognate and state-of-art skills to deliver services.","PeriodicalId":266840,"journal":{"name":"NG-Journal of Social Development","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121943504","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Conflict is an inevitable phenomenon in any society. So far what forms any organization whether in a macro or micro level are humans who come from different lives background then it becomes inescapable for conflict not to emanate. But what this research looks forward to achieving is on how to arrest conflicts at its embryo stage to avoid escalation which will lead to dysfunctional aspect of conflict that will hamper national development. Therefore, this work attributes the existence of dysfunctional conflicts in any society to the inability of the leaders to manage and curb the sources/causes of the conflicts at its earlier stage. The paper opines that leader of any organization / society should be held responsible for persistent and uncontrolled conflict that threats the peaceful coexistence and national development of the nation. The researchers made use of both primary and secondary sources of data. Primary data were based on the personal observations and experience of the researchers on the said topic whereas secondary data were obtained via publications of scholars on articles, journals, textbooks, internet, etc. The research is qualitative research, and all the obtained data were qualitatively analyzed through a content analysis. Through the analysis of the gathered data, the researchers found what the paper named ‘’leadership failure’’. And after thorough dissection of the leadership failure, the study was able to come up with the following recommendations among others in which the researchers strongly believed that if the recommendations are to put into practice outside these theoretical paper recommendations that the issue of persistence conflicts in Nigeria which usually affects national development will be surmounted in any society that applies them. These include a. To establish a law that will bare anybody who does not have a sound knowledge on human resources management, economy and conflict resolution from occupying a high leadership position. b. causes of conflict must be identified, arrested and properly handled at its early stage to avoid escalation. c. transparency and equity must be the watchword of any leader. d. every conflict resolution strategy that will be applied must be fair and just, etc..","PeriodicalId":266840,"journal":{"name":"NG-Journal of Social Development","volume":"2015 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128345876","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is pertinent to mention that genuine and sincere input from the workforce is priceless, hence the need for an effective and reliable feedback system that will allow and encourage the workers to conveniently and effortlessly rate and review the services and working conditions of the institution. This study adopts systems theory as a framework for analysis, data was gathered from both Primary and Secondary sources, Purposive sampling was used to elicit relevant information from members of the staff, The study revealed that although there are already established forum for feedback mechanism in the university system such as Departmental board meetings, Senate meetings and even the Vice Chancellors contact being made readily available to the public, the issue of safety and convenience makes a lot of people to refrain from using these platforms as means of feedback. The study, recommends the adoption and use of some technologically advanced computer applications like the \"Contact Monkey\", capable of preserving the identity of the informants for anonymous ratings and feedback among others, to air their view with ease on some working conditions, without the fear of repercussion.","PeriodicalId":266840,"journal":{"name":"NG-Journal of Social Development","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133117903","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main objective of this study therefore is to examine the effect of unchecked security threats on the heightened agitations for self-determination by Yoruba ethnic nationality from the Federal Republic of Nigeria. After years of unaddressed marginalization by federal government, ethnic cleansing and insecurity targeting Yorubas notably masterminded by Fulani terrorists and herdsmen from Northern Nigeria, Yoruba self-determination agitators strongly insist that they are no longer interested in any other appeasement from government but in having an Oduduwa Republic. The research adopts Aggression-frustration theory and makes use of both authors’ close observation of events in Nigeria and secondary sources of data. The justifiability or otherwise of these secession agitations under international human right laws some of whose instruments are domesticated by the Federal Government of Nigeria; roads to self-determination from countries across the globe and efforts of the agitators to draw international attention are considered. This paper recommends creation of employment opportunities for the teaming youths; impartial dispensation of justice and trust building for all Nigerians; provision of basic needs of the citizens and precaution in the use of force by security agents on agitators to the federal government of Nigeria to reduce the degree of violence often witnessed during protest and rallies.","PeriodicalId":266840,"journal":{"name":"NG-Journal of Social Development","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125070628","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
