For the proposed changes in the motor design the variation in the flux density distribution in the air gap, cogging torque and reluctance torque ripple are determined. The variations in the torque developed by the motor, cogging torque, output power, losses and efficiency for different stator tooth shapes are recorded. Micro liquid fuel engine driven micro generator is described and discussed in the paper. An analysis on state-of-art technologies is provided and a way to improve energy and power density of the micro-generator is identified and explained. The generator parameters and the factors to be considered for efficient power generation are investigated and the limiting conditions highlighted. The hardware in loop simulation offers the rapid prototyping by reducing time in development and cost. The DTC controller for induction motor is designed and simulation is carried out to test the performance in Simulink/MATLAB. A simple code generation tool interfaced to the MATLAB/SIMULINK by way of real time workshop (RTW) is used to convert the control model for a suitable hardware target. The space vector PWM based DTC control is realized by converting the control blocks in to C-code and implemented in dSPACE environment. The DTC controlled induction motor performance is tested using control desk. For demonstration purposes, two types of distribution systems have been considered: a single-source radial system and a multiple-source distribution system with a bus-tie. Simulations have been done for different types of faults to show that the SSFCL is effective for limiting fault currents. In this technique, both the STATCOM switching loss and the step-down transformer ohmic loss are accounted for and are calculated iteratively. To reduce the computational burden, the system load flow equations and the STATCOM equations are solved separately. The proposed algorithm has been tested on IEEE 30 bus and IEEE 57 bus power systems. Based on the results obtained on different operating conditions, the proposed algorithm has been found to possess good convergence characteristics. Investment in the sector was falling far short of demand in power supply. The Government of India, in 1991 embarked upon an ambitious program for reforming the sector with the prime objective of transforming the electricity industry into an efficient enterprise. This paper analyses the pre-reform era and identifies the key concerns which led to the initiation of the reform process. The paper delineates the major policy and regulatory initiatives that have been undertaken since 1991 including the provisions of the new enactment which has come into force in the form of the Electricity Act, 2003 and seek a paradigm shift. Several key elements of the reform program have been implemented by the various states, with varying degree of success, during the period 1991-2005. This paper reviews the performance of the Indian power sector in the last one and half decade since the reforms had been initiated, while undergoing restructuring. The study also examines how far the reform process during this period has been effective in realizing its set objectives and benefited the development of the power sector and the nation at large. The values of the capacitances are chosen to ensure self-excitation of the machine and to minimize the unbalance between the stator voltages. The excitation capacitors, ELC and load combined with the d-q model of the machine, together with the saturation are used to predict the dynamic behavior of the SEIG. A neutral point type step-down converter circuit shares switching devices with half bridge inverter, and it is the circuit which can constitute an electronic ballast of a one converter method. A neutral point type step-down converter circuit has the problem that an input current does not flow through in the vicinity of zero cross point because It has some characteristic as step-down chopper circuit. In this paper, boundaries of controllable power flow in a simple two machine power system with UPFC based on a geometrical approach are investigated. The main advantage of this geometrical approach is that even with a minimum computational effort, it gives a clear insight regarding the operational area of the power system with UPFC. However, certain subtle aspects of this geometrical method have not been addressed. A clear and comprehensive explanation of the mathematical basis is presented in this paper for the geometrical approach for evaluating the controllable power flow. Although in a general sense, the location of UPFC within a line is not a crucial parameter affecting the overall performance, results of the geometric approach indicate discontinuities in the P-delta curves specifically in certain ranges of delta. Overall, the results indicate that there is no significant effect of the location of UPFC on the minimum and maximum real power transmitted at a given power angle within the boundaries of controllable power flow. However the corresponding reactive power and currents are affected by location of UPFC. Further, according to the geometrical approach, the feasible range of delta itself depends upon the location of UPFC. Also, the investigations reveal the restricted scope of the geometrical approach.
