These include processing seafood products, harvesting or direct capture of species, and the sale of these products. In recent years, the decline of marine species has motivated them to also implement activities for the conservation of marine ecosystems such as reforestation, waste separation, and proper resource management, among others. Despite this, their work is little recognized and undervalued. Considering this, the objective of this work is to identify and describe the role of women in artisanal fishing in Celestún, Mexico. A qualitative methodology based on the application of semi-structured interviews was used for this purpose. In the fieldwork we observed that in Celestún, power relations influence access to marine resources, which directly impacts the economic and food security of families. Women are confronted with machista attitudes in the community, which limits them when carrying out different economic activities. This can affect their economic income and is detrimental to their families and the community in general. \u0000Keywords: woman, role of women, fishing, sustainability, artisanal fishing, gender equality, Celestún.

In this period, articles, and book chapters (n=51) and theses (n=9) were published for this region. 70.6% of specialized literature publications (articles and book chapters) were between 2014 and 2021, most of this literature concentrates on social and environmental issues (44.7%), and only on environmental issues (42.1%). We identified 25 institutions that through the authors collaborated in the study of the coastal socio-ecological system, most of them are higher education institutions (ies) (n = 9) and public research centers (ci) (n = 7) in Mexico. On the other hand, that the participation of the research works of Thesis 66.7% are theses of master’s level, 22.2% of doctoral level, all the theses cover topics of the environmental and social dimension. Like the specialized literature, most were conducted in national public ies and ia (n=8). Most of the findings on the timeline are about riparian fishing (59%) and community tourism (27%). The researchers have emphasized issues such as: illegal fishing, sea cucumber and octopus fisheries, as well as the tourism and conservation activity carried out by the cooperatives of the community.\u0000Keywords: socio-environmental systems, coastal communities, protected natural area.

The presence of hard structures of anthropogenic origin along the coasts can also create static artificial margins between land and sea, restricting coastal habitats to a narrow area. Ground level rise with respect to the coastal plain, which can be caused by an interrupted hydro-sedimentary flow, can also form added natural barriers. In particular, the coast of Mexico is vulnerable to sea level rise, however, other faster processes could be inducing coastal oppression/squeeze to a greater extent, such as subsidence, extreme hydrometeorological phenomena, changes in land use and erosion derived from sediment retention in the upper coastal basins. The aim of this study is analyzed coastal oppression along the coast for Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche, Mexico, by finding its determining variables based on a literature review and analysis of open access databases. The processes analyzed correspond to changes in land use, the incidence of storms and the presence of hard structures, among other factors, which have increased rapidly in the study area in recent years and have caused the loss of coastal ecosystems. Ultimately, this work aims to generate a method that can quantitatively measure the effects of coastal oppression in different coastal areas. The resulting method serves as a tool for decision-making and sustainable coastal management.\u0000Keywords: coastal zone, land use change, incidence of storms, Gulf of Mexico, Campeche.
