It is therefore necessary to promote training and technology transfer to the productive sector in order to promote conditions of self-employment, food security and to include beneficiaries throughout the process. Technological transfer is a mechanism that can increase aquaculture productivity and boost its profits. This scenario sought to design and build an aquaculture system for tropical gar (Atractosteus tropicus) and Mayan cichlid (Mayaheros urophthalmus) culture, with the participa-tion of local skilled people through the technological transfer of aquaculture. This system was developed in a locality in the Centla Swamps in southeastern México from 2017 to 2019 in five phases: diagnosis, presentation, design and construction, implementation and monitoring. The transfer of technology for the culture of species was made possible by the advice of the working teams and the support of the inhabitants. It was identified that the participants had a change in their perception of aquaculture and acquired skills in this activity. Community participation is an essential part of technology transfer.\u0000Keywords: Tropical gar, Mayan cichlid, fisheries, capacity, adaptation.

This article compiles and analyzes the original research on the study of possible biomarkers in wild coastal-marine organisms from America. One of the outcomes of this review research is the need for a continuous evaluation of organisms in conjunction with the assessment of environmental vari-ables and the levels of pollutants that may be found in any ecosystem. It is well stated that the use of biomarkers is a practical tool for the environmental management; however, some limitations apply and there are several questions in regards to specificity, sensibility, usability, replicability, and interpretation to be solved, yet. Along the American continent, multiple biomarkers have been used to evaluate specific pollutants or highly impacted zones at marine-coastal environments. The most commonly used organisms are fishes and bivalves and they have been also extensively used in marine turtles. In regards of the type of biomarkers, plenty of authors integrate biomarkers from different groups, sorted in this review as biometric biomarkers (morphologic and corporal in-dexes), histological biomarkers (for tissues), molecular biomarkers (genetic) and biochemical and physiological biomarkers (both at the cellular and molecular levels). Following this classification, the most used biomarkers were biochemical and physiological biomarkers, due to the great advantages and information that they provide. It is of utmost importance to set guidelines and referenced threshold values for each biomarker to allow the early environmental diagnosis and integrated evaluation of harmful pollutants effects.\u0000Keywords: Biomarkers, environmental assessment, America.

Due to their intrinsic characteristics, even today, they can be found in almost any environment. In this work it was aimed to analyze their distribution in Latin American coastal sediments, at Atlantic and Pacific oceans, through the analysis of thirty three scientific publications that characterized a total of fifty five sites. It was observed that general concentrations depended of the own characteristics of each site, being larger closer to big cities or intensive agricultural fields, as well as semi-closed environments with larger rates of water permanence and consequently larger influence from the continent. Likewise it was observed that the composed addition of OCPs was similar among sites located in the same country or region.\u0000Keywords: Organochlorine pesticides, sediments, coasts, Latin America, composition.

So tourism should be an example of good and service provided by the coasts that involves economic and recreational purposes, but also for environmental conservation and responsible social use. The use of beaches as tourist spaces, derived an important socio-environmental dynamic that has not always been beneficial for the environment. The urban growth and the massification of these spaces has caused pollution and environmental pressure on coastal environments, especially in the beaches that had a traditional growth lacking in planning. The coastal zone for tourist activity represents complex social reproduction scenarios that must be studied from methodologies that allow the involvement of the multiple actors involved to improve the management of these spaces. In this sense, it is considered that the connection between the socio-environmental peculiarities of the coasts should be based on local studies that allow giving a leading role to the community towards a sustainable use of the coasts. For this reason, the case of Puerto Escondido Oaxaca is taken as an example, with the aim of developing a management proposal based on the Soft Systems Methodology for sustainable self-management. This methodology, due to its flexibility, allowed generating a participatory diagnosis to create improvement proposals. The results show a conceptual model of self-management as an approach to the improvement of beach management, using these beaches in Oaxaca as an example.\u0000Keywords: Tourist beaches, Self-management, Systemic Approach.

This study is product of ethnographic research carried out with fishermen from the port of Alvarado in the Gulf of Mexico, it determines the intimate relationship of the actors with their environment throughout their existence, allows us to observe the ways in which spaces are reconfigured, and also, the way in which are reconfigured, remove or reaffirm meanings, limits, referents, activities, interactions, demands, imaginary, which provide continuity and identification. That allow us to see different socio-territorial reconfigurations: the river and the lagoons, the land and, the sea. In each of them, there are implicit hopes, utopias in tune with the environment and the reality that is lived, fostering an awareness of common needs, as well as bonds of affection, understanding and identity that help them adapt and to have an experiential knowledge fragmented which weakens the elderly, creating in them a sense of loneliness and vulnerability. The objective of this paper was to review information on climate change impacts on coastal ecosystems with high freshwater input for the Gulf of Mexico and review mitigation measures for dealing with climate change. There are two high freshwater discharge areas, one surrounding the Mississippi River in the north central Gulf and one in the southern Gulf, which is associated with the Grijalva-Usumacinta River and adjacent rivers and ground water discharge from the Yucatan Peninsula. Both of these areas are characterized by extensive coastal wetlands, and in the southern Gulf, submerged aquatic vegetation. These coastal ecosystems support important natural resources, have high petroleum production, and important maritime trade. Climate change will impact both of these areas strongly. Sea level is projected to increase by a meter or more by 2100 and there will be more strong hurricanes that will be larger, have more intense rainfall, will move slower, and the rate of intensification will increase. In the north, peak Mississippi River discharge is projected to increase by 10 to 60%. In the southern Gulf, it is projected that precipitation and freshwater discharge will decrease associated with the Mesoamerican climate hotspot. Coastal management to accommodate climate change should mimic ecosystem functioning. Specific actions include protection of natural areas, full use of freshwater and sediment resources, maintain con-nections between freshwater input and coastal systems, allow inland migration of coastal wetlands, and careful management of land use changes.\u0000Keywords: Gulf of Mexico, climate change impacts, coastal ecossytems.

Because of its importance we developed an index to assess the vulnerability of the biotic community associated with these ecosistems. The Pressure-State-Response model provided the current state of the system, the pressures exerted on them and the responses that users have developed to mitigate impacts. The model was constructed from interdisciplinary data: in situ sampling, satellite images, fishing catches and interviews to fisheries organizations. We found that most of Baja Californian M. pyrifera forests have medium vulnerability, highlighting Bajamar and Salsipuedes with very low vulnerability; on the contrary, El Campito and El Rosario Sur presented the highest vulnerability values. El Rosario Sur has very high fishing pressure due to eight organizations fishing in the area, all of them with legal permits. This situation generates social and ecological conflicts due to the fact that free access to the area do not allow the organizations to compromise to care and manage their resources; differing from other sites where access control and conservation attitude have shown to work. The integration of results from the interviews confirmed that the attitude of conservation by fishermen is favored if there is a strong attachment or sense of belonging to the place where they fish, as well as having lived experiences of crisis in relation to its activity. Also, the response actions developed by fishing organizations affect positively the state and vulnerability of M. pyrifera forests. The model constructed is a useful tool for the diagnosis of the current state of the kelp forests in Baja California, and can be applied to monitor future trends of its components, providing elements for a better decision-making regarding the management of the resources that inhabit these ecosystems.\u0000Keywords: Baja California, Macrocystis pyrifera, fishing, PSR, vulnerabilidad.

The first part presents the current situation of the main land use planning instruments in the coastal municipalities of Mexico, in the second part the current environmental situation in said municipalities is presented, identifying the degree of their transformation, the alteration of the ecosystems in the context of watersheds, the impact on the drainage network and mangrove losses. Under these circumstances, and taking into account that the future climate scenarios indicate an increase in the intensity and frequency of tropical cyclones, most of the coastal municipalities are in a situation of very high to medium vulnerability. The third part of the text presents the concrete action that coastal municipalities can take to be more resilient in the face of the challenges posed by global climate change. These actions can be grouped into four major thematic groups: Implementation of an early warning system based on a municipal information system, conserving the first defense barrier (dunes, mangroves and coastal lagoons) against cyclones and storm tides, decrease the vulnerability of infrastructure, productive systems and population, and restoration and conservation of ecosystems with a productive approach to lessen the impact of extreme events.
