The locations of UPFC installation is determined by 'contingency analysis.' After power flow modelling of SVC, PS, and UPFC is introduced, a new power flow control method for UPFC is described. Four practical indices are used to evaluate the behavior of power systems. The test results on a test network clearly illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.","PeriodicalId":262115,"journal":{"name":"Electric Machines and Power Systems","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1999-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132565955","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is proved that ANNs are excellent for the applications of complex pattern recognition such as visual images of objects, speech recognition, printed or handwritten characters, and many other types of pattern recognition. Such wide applications are developed, based on the major advantage of the neural networks of being inherently error tolerant, i.e., it can solve problems adequately with information (data) that is uncertain, incomplete, or noisy. The reliable results of the power system security and economical analysis depend on the supply of real-time data base, results of power system state estimation, programs whose major problem is the determination of the network topology configuration. The determination of the topology suffers from the uncertainty of the collected data related to the circuit breakers status, due to the p...","PeriodicalId":262115,"journal":{"name":"Electric Machines and Power Systems","volume":"125 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1999-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117032496","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Conventionally, the amplitude of the rectangular reference current pulse, on-angle, and off-angle for the various phases of the SRM for a given torque demand are obtained from a stored look-up table that makes use of measured torque-current-position characteristics. However, the electromagnetic torque, thus obtained, contains significant ripples. A number of techniques for the generation of reference current profiles that minimize the torque ripples have also been suggested in the past. But due to highly nonlinear characteristics of the SRM, all these schemes are not fully successful. Moreover, their performance depends greatly on the accuracy of the magnetic characteristics measurements of the motor on which most of these algorithms work. Our work is primarily motivated to modulate the reference phase current pattern with the aid of fuzzy logic which is well suited to compensate for the nonlinea...","PeriodicalId":262115,"journal":{"name":"Electric Machines and Power Systems","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1999-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124620129","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Different algorithms of nonlinear optimization were used in this work. The new model which was elaborated, allows us to carry out a good parameters identification from the measurements obtained from the two modes of operating as motor and as generator. This model has two different saturation reactances. One can be identified from motor and the other from generator operation. An interpretation of the reactance saturation is done.","PeriodicalId":262115,"journal":{"name":"Electric Machines and Power Systems","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1999-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122012873","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The FLPSS is applied for each machine in the system while its operation is delayed for a short period almost equal to the first half cycle of the power system electromechanical oscillations. The application of this controller is successful in damping large-scale power system oscillations. In order to accomplish best damping characteristics, two signals are chosen as inputs to the FLPSS; deviation of power angle (Delta 6) and deviation of speed derivative (Delta) of each omega synchronous machine in the system. These two variables have efficient effects on damping the oscillations of both frequency and terminal voltage signals and hence the system gives better stability. The effectiveness of this delayed operation FLPSS controller is demonstrated by a digital computer simulation of a large-scale power system.","PeriodicalId":262115,"journal":{"name":"Electric Machines and Power Systems","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1999-01-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126483779","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
