A new composition of the genetic string has been proposed for the coding of the capacitor placement problem. The proposed genetic string represents both the optimum location and the size of the capacitor. A number of modifications have also been proposed to improve the performance of the simple genetic algorithm in solving the capacitor placement problem. Test results have been presented in support of the superiority of the proposed modifications.","PeriodicalId":262115,"journal":{"name":"Electric Machines and Power Systems","volume":"134 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1999-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114669408","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective is to ensure that the continuous growth of load demand is satisfied at a reliable level of network performance. Line loss participation factors and line stability levels are introduced to determine the most lossy and weakest lines in the network. Furthermore, an algorithm for identifying the weakest and most vulnerable load buses is incorporated. The solution procedure can easily determine when, where, and how to install new lines and/or additional VAR sources as a corrective measure in order to minimize losses and enhance voltage stability of the system. The proposed method has been successfully applied to the solution of a number of test systems with different sizes. The IEEE 30-bus system is used to show the capability and feasibility of the methodology.","PeriodicalId":262115,"journal":{"name":"Electric Machines and Power Systems","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1999-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129017611","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It offers accurate (about 0.001%) and fast (30-40 ms) tracking, estimating and predicting the actual power-line frequency and its deviation, as well as spectral harmonic components of the actual power line voltages and currents with high accuracies (0.02%-0.05%), due to almost complete elimination of aliasing and leakage effects. The results of a computer simulation of this method and of many real-life experiments are given and explained. The proposed method (IZC, QSI) has been compared to other DSP methods used for Power System investigation and applied in Underfrequency Relay Protection (URP); Load Shedding and Restoration (LSR); Acquisition, Monitoring, and Control (AMC); Diagnostics and Quality Analysis (DQA); and in other industrial applications.","PeriodicalId":262115,"journal":{"name":"Electric Machines and Power Systems","volume":"2015 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1999-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127730334","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A combined method using HF noise, fast Fourier transform (FFT), and neural networks (NN) for phase selection has been proposed previously; however, FFT and NN have some implicit disadvantages. This paper describes a HF noise based method for phase selection using wavelets based feature extraction. It is shown that the features extracted by wavelets transform (WT) have a more distinctive property than those extracted by FFT due to the good time and frequency localization characteristics of WT. As a result, the proposed method dispenses with the neural networks and hence is more reliable and simpler than the previous FFT-based method. Extensive simulation studies have been made to verify that the proposed approach is very powerful and apropos to phase selection.","PeriodicalId":262115,"journal":{"name":"Electric Machines and Power Systems","volume":"286 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1999-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114697222","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Analysis and breadboard results show that the series-parallel resonant converter type LLCC with capacitive output filter while maintaining excellent efficiency. A useful analysis technique based on steady-state analysis and first harmonic approach is also introduced. The basis of the modelling technique is the determination of a value for an equivalent \"q-channel\" reluctance. This reluctance contains all the effects of paths available to q -axis flux through the rotor body. Expressions for the distribution of airgap and other motor fluxes have been developed from basic analyses involving mmf and continuity of flux. The foundations of all of these expressions are the physical parameters of the motor. The equations developed have been applied to a 370W motor and the results from models presented are compared with results obtained from a finite element analysis of the same motor where good agreement has been achieved.","PeriodicalId":262115,"journal":{"name":"Electric Machines and Power Systems","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1999-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134146729","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For a complex heat flow systems, such as electrical machines, the lumped parameter network technique still plays a very important role for the solution of heat flow problems. This paper discusses the development of the thermal model, taking into account the different material types and complicated geometries within the machine, as well as the different modes of heat transfer. However, to predict an accurate temperature distribution requires the knowledge of loss distribution in the machine. Using the temperature-time method a more accurate loss distribution is obtained. The model performance is validated against measured results obtained for a 4 kW, 3-phase, 4-pole, 415 V totally enclosed fan cooled induction motor.","PeriodicalId":262115,"journal":{"name":"Electric Machines and Power Systems","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1999-02-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129144347","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
