It also considers the effect balanced and unbalanced operation of inverters in asynchronous links has on torsional stressing of large turbine-generator shafts. First a 6-pulse bridge is modeledto determine characteristics for reactive power at both the inverter and rectifier as a function of AC power at the inverter or rectifier. Responses for real and reactive power following transient commands for AC real power are determined for a range of commands for real power to enhance transient performance of the power system. The characteristics relate to a link with typical parameters rated at 200 MW ~ 1000 MW. Performance of a 12-pulse bridge configuration that was modeled is then summarized. Noncharacteristic harmonic currents injected by the inverter into the AC system due to balanced ...","PeriodicalId":262115,"journal":{"name":"Electric Machines and Power Systems","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1999-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131572295","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The SFLP method uses Fuzzy LP (FLP) model in the Successive Linear Programming (SLP) framework to solve the RPO problem. In the FLP model, the objective and each of the constraints are assigned a satisfaction parameter. The satisfaction parameter corresponding to the objective quantifies the degree of closeness of the objective in the current state to the optimum. The satisfaction parameter corresponding to a constraint describes the degree of enforcement of that constraint. By maximizing the minimum of these satisfaction parameters, the objective as well as the constraint enforcements are maximized. The SFLP method of RPO is efficient and reliable in scheduling systems having severe under-voltages and insufficient reactive power, as the method is capable of maximizing the enforcement of the violated load bus voltage constraint...","PeriodicalId":262115,"journal":{"name":"Electric Machines and Power Systems","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1999-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128867222","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a new scheme to mitigate the harmonics present in the system. The method uses the flux cancellation and injection capabilities of transformers, along with the existing filter designs, to produce an improved performance for elimination of unwanted harmonics and noise. The robustness to time varying signals, noncharacteristic harmonics, and high-power noise makes this method highly competitive. The performance of the proposed scheme is confirmed both by simulation on real power system harmonic data and laboratory scale experimentation.","PeriodicalId":262115,"journal":{"name":"Electric Machines and Power Systems","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1999-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129848306","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These schemes are therefore inherently sensitive to parameter variation effects in the machine. The variety of speed estimation methods makes any attempt to develop a universal approach to compensation of parameter variation effects impossible. This paper concentrates on one of the most frequently used schemes, in which speed is estimated using model reference adaptive control approach (MRAC) on the basis of two estimated values of the rotor flux space vector. The estimator is analyzed in conjunction with indirect feed-forward rotor flux-oriented induction machine. An attempt is made to improve the accuracy of the speed estimation by appropriate modification of the speed estimator and the indirect vector controller structures using modified induction motor models that account for one or more of the phenomena that are neglected in development of the...","PeriodicalId":262115,"journal":{"name":"Electric Machines and Power Systems","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1999-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130879174","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study results expressed in terms of reliability indices can serve as a basis of comparison of the reliabilities of two or more configurations. More importantly, the reliability indices of new or proposed systems can be predicted using realistic data, which in turn can be used to make judicious decisions between alternative schemes. This paper describes the application of Windows-based user-friendly software to evaluate the reliability of different types of distribution system configurations, in particular, three types of connections, viz., radial, meshed or ring, and flower networks. A comparison is made between the reliability indices of these three types of configurations, and conclusions are drawn.","PeriodicalId":262115,"journal":{"name":"Electric Machines and Power Systems","volume":"237 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1999-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133205478","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The natural modes of vibration of a 4-pole round-stator are examined. The dynamic response of the machine stator when electromagnetic forces are applied at the stator poles is fully examined in this paper. The 4-pole, roundstator SRM is compared with a common square-stator motor as well as a novel square-stator structure, in which the poles are positioned at the square corners. Other machine design cues aimed at reducing vibration, such as the addition of pole fillets and the choice of suitable back iron width, are investigated.","PeriodicalId":262115,"journal":{"name":"Electric Machines and Power Systems","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1999-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126845844","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To validate the correctness of the method, the calculated motor speed, rotor flux, and stator current are compared with those measured in the literature. Moreover, the present calculated values in the presence of core losses are also compared with those calculated before in absence of the core losses. It is concluded that consideration of core losses in the dynamic model of the machine improves the theoretical predictions and reduces the discrepancies between the calculated and measured values.","PeriodicalId":262115,"journal":{"name":"Electric Machines and Power Systems","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1999-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130895872","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here, transient performance of the SEIG-IM system has been investigated to assess suitability of the SEIG to sudden switchings, such as starting of the IM. To predict the response of the system, quasi-stationary d-q axes model of the polyphase induction machine has been used. Transient response of the system has been presented for different operating conditions, and sample experimental results are given to validate the predicted ones. Useful guidelines for the design and operation of an SEIG-IM system for an isolated application, such as an IM-driven irrigation pump, have been suggested.","PeriodicalId":262115,"journal":{"name":"Electric Machines and Power Systems","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1999-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128009163","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
