A balun is loading the single balanced Gilbert cell mixer, providing a single ended output. The Gilbert mixer transistor sizes are optimized for maximum Vp-p and distortion from phase imbalance and Group Delay Dispersion in the balun are mitigated using odd-even mode analysis and simulations. The proposed algorithm uses additional precoding to the conventional DCM symbols with 25 subcarrier separation. The proposed algorithm exploits not only frequency diversity between 50 subcarrier separation by using DCM, but also frequency diversity between 25 subcarrier separation by using additional precoding, resulting in better performance than the conventional DCM. We also propose a method for detecting the proposed algorithm by sharing the modified dual carrier modulation (MDCM) detection block which is basically included MB-OFDM UWB systems. The proposed detection method prevents the increase in hardware complexity caused by additional precoding. An early model that exhibits clustering was proposed by Saleh and Valenzuela in 1987, and since then, several extensions have been developed. Although these models are straightforward to simulate, little analysis of them has been carried out. Here, a generalized multipath-cluster channel model is proposed that subsumes the Saleh-Valenzuela model and its extensions as special cases. The proposed model provides a unified framework for the understanding and analysis of multipath-cluster channel models. The platform is composed by a software simulator (SW) and a hardware testbed (HW). The software simulator based on Matlab offers reconfigurable modules/functions of UWB systems with a graphic user interface (GUI). Correspondingly, the testbed is implemented by an oscilloscope and a set of off-the-shelf components. The oscilloscope (Lecroy WaveMaster 816Zi-A) features high-speed real-time sampling (i.e., 40 GS/s with 16 GHz analog bandwidth) with 4 independent channels, enabling a multi-antenna multichannel receiver network in UWB bands, with signal processing capability at the Nyquist rate. The SW and HW are seamlessly integrated by the build-in software in the oscilloscope. It allows rapid prototypes of various algorithms to be verified in real environments. In this work subthreshold driven Common Gate (CG) input stage is modified to provide wideband input matching and a current reuse noise cancelling technique is introduced to improve noise performance. Additionally, substantial reduction in power consumption is obtained by driving the MOS devices in subthreshold region. Circuit is simulated using Spectre simulator in UMC 180nm CMOS technology and achieved a gain of 12-13.2 dB (6-7.2 dB + 6dB loss in buffer) with a noise figure of 4-5dB over the band of 1.5-8.5 GHz. Proposed circuit consumes only 1.4mW from 1.5V supply. One relevant application is radar sensing, which exploits the high temporal and spatial resolution of UWB signals, deep electromagnetic wave penetration through matter, low integral power, and the co-existence of UWB systems with narrow-band radio systems. This contribution focuses on UWB sensors for biomedical diagnostics and imaging, where three different modes of operation are envisaged: 1. Detecting motional features (e.g., for remote monitoring of vital functions). 2. Identifying permittivity contrast resulting from the specific water concentration in biological tissues (e.g., for breast cancer detection). 3. Enabling multimodal diagnostics, e.g., as navigator technique for magnetic resonance imaging. The paper aims at highlighting the potential and remaining challenges for such applications, and providing an overview of current UWB systems and their distinctive features. The feed structure is redesigned for the ridged horn antenna to overcome the problem of its radiation pattern deterioration at higher frequencies, thus the designed feed maintains a single main lobe in the direction of horn axis. Also, the modifications are made in the shape of ridges to achieve better voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) over the whole frequency band. This new modified horn antenna is then used as a feed for a prime-fed parabolic reflector design. The radiation pattern of designed parabolic reflector is also not divided into four large side lobes and has a single main lobe. This study is investigated using reliable commercial 3D EM simulation software CST solvers based on both Multi-level Fast Multipole Method (MLFMM) and Finite Integration Technique (FIT).
