More generally, we show that the CS problem can be used for solving the distributed source coding problem. In this study, we propose an equal 1 to 4 power divider (PD) which enables the suppression of three different frequencies, 3.95, 5.2 and 5.8 GHz, in the UWB frequency band by means of U-shaped defected ground structure (DGS). In this respect, it is essential to provide steep band-rejection with high Q-factor. The authors have used a novel method to attain this goal using U-shaped DGS. Studies show that there is a relation between the line width and Q-factor of a given band-notched structure. Therefore, instead of using a 50-50-50 ohm configuration, a 50-100-50 ohm transformation is used which has a narrower line width in the middle of the PD providing a steeper suppression with a high Q-factor. Thus, this work can be considered as an extension of the work in [2] to the performance sensitivities with respect directly to the microstrip width and length. These analytical expressions of the performance sensitivities can be used for the gradient-based efficient optimization, in tolerance and yield analysis of the microstrip amplifiers. Performance sensitivities of the Π-type microstrip amplifier are considered as a worked example. Results of the Π-type amplifier designed for the maximum gain GTmax constrained by the minimum noise figure at each operation frequency Fmin(f) and input VSWR (Vireq= 1.85) within the frequency range 8-18 GHz are given as compared with the results of the perturbational and Chain Parameter methods. They provide fully differential circuit solutions in a low-cost SiGe heterostructure bipolar transistor technology addressing short range radar sensors as well as communication links. At the core, an efficient pulse generator concept allows for spectral tunability as well as biphase modulated pulses. Receiver concepts implement correlation detection for radar and biphase modulation, and energy detection for on-off keying communications and localization. The spatial filter exploits the fact that electromagnetic waves travel as modes in a tunnel and that these modes can be filtered using a sparse array of antennas. It is shown that the spatial filter delivers centimeter ranging accuracy at moderate to high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) values even when the tunnel is heavily overmoded. The channel sounder is based on a PN-sequence correlation technique with a pulse width of 0.8 ns. Signals are recorded in different locations in line-of-sight and non-line-of-sight scenarios, and for each location the receiver is moved over a grid of 9×9 positions, in order to characterize both the large and the small scale behaviors. Samples of the channel impulse response are recorded at eight different carrier frequencies spanning the bands from 54 to 59 GHz and from 61 to 66 GHz. Thus, we need to estimate the primary signal power and the noise variance with a high degree of accuracy. In this paper, we propose a new estimation method of primary signal to noise ratio. Our proposed method assumes several models of observed carriers, adopts the maximum likelihood criterion to estimate parameters in each model and selects the most suitable model based on the Akaike information criterion.
