This paper will provide an edition based on its two extant copies as well as a commentary, whose aim is to contextualize the poem in regards to the historic events after the fall of the Republic of Venice. Inscribed in the long literary tradition of the ‘land of Cockayne’ or ‘feast of Cockayne’, the text exhibits nonetheless a significant deviation from its more traditional expressions. Taking advantage of the cuccagna’s meaning of wealth and freedom, the author praises Napoleon and the revolution, having faith in new social and political circumstances, while at the same time claiming for radical reforms.","PeriodicalId":258823,"journal":{"name":"Quaderni Veneti","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126753774","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a series of judicial documents written at the beginning of the 14th century in a small village in the Venice Lagoon. They show an archaic state of language, in which the Simple Past is still productive, while nowadays in Northern Italy it has disappeared from the varieties spoken in the area, that use only the Present Perfect. In the 1980s, some typological studies on Romance languages identified in the expansion of the semantic functions related to the Present Perfect a diachronic process named aoristic drift. In this paper, we analyze the linguistic distribution between Present Perfect and Simple Past showed by the Atti in the light of the aoristic drift’s theory. We also integrate this theoric background by applying a refined textual analysis to the documents. The combination of linguistic theory and text analysis to investigate ancient language varieties is the innovative element of the present work, with respect to the traditional studies about aoristic drift.","PeriodicalId":258823,"journal":{"name":"Quaderni Veneti","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130742068","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Indeed the synoptic reading of these chapters in the redactions F, Z and R – the last two far richer of information than the first – seems to confirm an old, debated hypothesis: the one according to which the Latin redaction Z and Ramusio’s Italian version (mostly deriving from a lost Z manuscript) would show traces of a rewriting of some parts of the book, in which some notes by Marco Polo, not used in the Franco-Italian text drafted in Genoa in 1298, would have been included.","PeriodicalId":258823,"journal":{"name":"Quaderni Veneti","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121523134","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, linguistic interference has a textual utility and helps examine, from a different perspective, the problem of Ramusio’s sources. Secondly, the analysis of lexical variation serves for methodological purposes, since it shows not only the results of Ramusio’s action, but also the outcomes of linguistic interferences dating back to previous tradition. Finally, the wide variety of examples offers a pretext for more general considerations about the relationship between copy and translation, formal and content mistakes, monogenetic linguistic contact and polygenetic cognitive operations.","PeriodicalId":258823,"journal":{"name":"Quaderni Veneti","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114776327","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
