In this field, the geometric multigrid method (GMG) is one of the most efficient algorithms for solving large sparse linear systems of equations. Herein we analyze the performance of an optimized GPU based implementation of the GMG method on different state-of-the-art NVIDIA GPUs. The GTX Titan Black card, set-up with increased double precision performance leads to the smallest execution time. It is marginally faster than the more recently released GTX Titan X card which has considerably lower double precision performance. Moreover, an energy efficiency analysis reveals that the GTX 660M and the more powerful Titan cards require a similar amount of energy for running the GMG algorithm: the larger execution time is compensated by the lower power consumption.","PeriodicalId":257135,"journal":{"name":"2015 19th International Conference on System Theory, Control and Computing (ICSTCC)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132543145","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The algorithm which allowed face detection, imposing new standards in this area, was the Viola - Jones algorithm. In this paper, a practical implementation of a face detector based on Viola-Jones algorithm using Matlab cascade object detector is presented. Employing the system type object vision.CascadeObjectDetector, eight face detectors were developed using the trainCascadeObjectDetector function and tuning the number of cascade layer and the False Alarm Rate. For different tuning parameters, the performances of the face detectors were analyzed.","PeriodicalId":257135,"journal":{"name":"2015 19th International Conference on System Theory, Control and Computing (ICSTCC)","volume":"296 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122103159","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The latter is the focus of the present study, specifically showing that it is suitable for the automatic control of blood pressure in post cardiac surgery patients. The context is the direct use of clinical data, with no need for a patient model. Classical control, with PID or Polynomial RST algorithms, has also been used for blood pressure regulation. An existing model of patient is used here and improved. We use a model here for the only purpose of generating pseudo-clinical data for the use of reinforcement learning. The obtained results confirm that this approach can be an alternative to the classical control.","PeriodicalId":257135,"journal":{"name":"2015 19th International Conference on System Theory, Control and Computing (ICSTCC)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121641609","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sensor limitation, accuracy, noise, and uncertainty are issues that limit acquisition of information on states of such vehicles. Sliding mode observer (SMO), as a nonlinear observer, is believed to be able to deal with such issues. However, the chattering phenomenon in SMO is still an issue that may lead to performance degradation. Interval Type-2 fuzzy logic system (IT2FLS), which has the capability to accommodate uncertainties of the system, will play a vital role in eliminating this phenomenon. A hybrid mechanism by combining the two methods is investigated in this paper. The proposed method is compared with Type-1 fuzzy logic observer to show the advantages of the approach. The results obtained demonstrate good performance of the approach in dealing with noise and uncertainty as well as eliminating the chattering phenomenon of SMO.","PeriodicalId":257135,"journal":{"name":"2015 19th International Conference on System Theory, Control and Computing (ICSTCC)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115042547","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

You can use a single core or a multicore which is much faster but will not be the equivalent of a single core multiple with the numbers of cores, because a small part from the power will be used for inter process communications. Our approach is a little bit different because we use a single core CPU that have a number of finite task that act like different CPU's. In this new architecture there is no need for inter process communication because the processor is a single core and the hardware tasks use the same resources as others. The peripherals of this architecture will improve interrupt latencies and task switching times, what makes this microcontroller the best choice when it comes in interrupt response time.","PeriodicalId":257135,"journal":{"name":"2015 19th International Conference on System Theory, Control and Computing (ICSTCC)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114418293","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The studied system consists in a continuous bioreactor using wheat flour as raw material. Three reactions take place at the same time in the bioreactor: the gluten hydrolysis, the maltose saccharification and the glucose fermentation. This paper considers the optimization of the two last reactions. The optimal set point that maximizes the bioprocess productivity is first determined. Then, a state feedback linearizing controller is developed to maintain the lactic acid concentration at this optimal set point. Nevertheless, knowledge of all states variables is required for this kind of control law. Since the sole online measurement is the lactic acid concentration, robust and efficient estimators of the non-measured states have to be developed. In this paper, an Unscented Kalman filter (UKF) is proposed to estimate the biomass and substrates concentrations in the bioreactor and is then coupled with the feedback linearizing control law. Numerical simulations have been carried out to assess the control law performance.","PeriodicalId":257135,"journal":{"name":"2015 19th International Conference on System Theory, Control and Computing (ICSTCC)","volume":"IA-12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126553279","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Lyapunov function candidates are defined as weighted vector norms, where the weighting matrices are diagonal and positive definite. For the existence of such Lyapunov functions, we provide necessary and sufficient conditions in the case of 1 and ℝ norms, as well as two sufficient conditions in the case of 2-norm. The results offer construction procedures focusing on diagonal Lyapunov functions with the fastest decreasing rate, fact that also ensures the identification of the fastest contractive invariant sets shaped in accordance with the aforementioned norms. The exposition covers the discrete- and continuous-time dynamics, in parallel, aiming to emphasize both similarities and differences between the two types of results. The applicability of the theoretical developments is illustrated by a numerical example.","PeriodicalId":257135,"journal":{"name":"2015 19th International Conference on System Theory, Control and Computing (ICSTCC)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116884441","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
